@@lali2955 yeah i managed to make friends. although i kinda hate to admit it, it was one of those "get to know your classmate" exercises in my english class that got me talking with someone, and when i saw her sitting with her friends at lunch, i asked if i could join, and they said yes. from there we started accumulating more people- mostly from p.e. us shy kids kinda just gravitated to each other. unfortunatley i wouldn't say we're super great friends or anything, but we've only known each other a year, plus covid really screwed a lot of things up in the social department. i still have one person who has been my best friend since elementary school, which helps loads, but she goes to a different school unfortunately. and i really resonate with not having friends "click" thing, sadly. i think now that i feel more comfortable with myself and know more about myself and my identity, when i go back to school next year, i'll hopefully find better friends. (i haven't been to in person school in a year, and i've learned a lot about myself over quarintine). if you're an upcoming freshman, just keep in mind that _everyone_ is nervous. i'd say that p.e. is the best way to make friends, but honestly if you just make small talk with the people around you in your classes and then use that to get your foot in the door when it comes to things like lunch, that's a solid way to go as well. just talk about small things in class, be friendly, make jokes, smile, wave or smile at them in the halls, and when you see them with their friends at lunch or something, just say something like "hey [name]! mind if i sit with you guys?" i'll admit eating lunch with one person i kind of knew and other people i didn't know was awkward as hell at first, all though to be fair, i'm an awkward person anyways. but it got better and now we're all fairly good friends. also keep in mind that all the big groups of friends you see of people sticking with their middle school friends- that won't last. friend groups evolve a *lot* in high school, so don't let that intimidate you too much. i know this is all fairly basic advice, but as someone who was anxious as all hell going into high school, i can safely say it isn't _nearly_ as bad as i thought it'd be. just try to relax, be yourself, be friendly, be chatty if you can, and take time to focus on yourself. i know that for me, my identity has changed a *_ton_* and i'm not even done with my second year. sorry that i wrote like a full-on essay. just know that you're not alone in the way you're feeling, and things'll work out. if you have anymore questions, or just wanna chat, i'll still be here

@@lali2955 dude i relate to what you said so so much. it's so easy for me to be funny around people i'm comfortable with (so people i already know super well), but around other people, i never know what to say. i've found that just smiling and appearing positive/friendly goes a long ways, and makes people more likely to talk to you, so i just kinda hope that an outgoing person comes along and does most of the talking, and then i'll eventually work up to talking back to them. i know this isn't super helpful and is pretty generic, but talking about your interests is also a good way to strike up a conversation. what music you listen to, what shows you like, youtubers/twitch streamers you watch, hobbies (skating, art, playing an instrument, etc), languages you speak. for me, talking about things i like makes me super anxious because i'm worried they'll judge me, but once you find something youse have in common, you can potentially talk for a long time about it. even obvious things, like talking about how you don't like "x" assignment if you're in class, or how you hope it snows so you can get some days off from school (i dunno where you live, but where i live, it snows _maybe_ once a year, and even if it's a light dusting, the entire city shuts down for like a week haha). you can even make small jokes here and there pertaining to the work you're doing if you're in class, like i remember once i was in math and i didn't realize that i was reading the math problem out loud to myself, and it was something like "jonah wants to know how many miles it is from his school to his house" or something, and i said something stupid like "oh of _course_ he does" and everyone at my table laughed, which admittedly threw me off guard, but it set the mood to be lighter and friendlier that day. i've also learned that just asking simple questions about assignments is a great way to just _start_ talking to the people around you, for example, "wait, is it supposed to be a five sentence paragraph or like a twelve sentence paragraph?" or "hold on, i didn't catch the last thing [teacher] said, did you?". for me, this kinda breaks like the awkward tension around sitting near people in total silence, and makes it easier to start joking around/being friendly later on, but everyone is different. i'd also recommend taking advantage of group projects. i managed to make some really good in class friends that way that were just about to become out of class friendships as well, but then the pandemic hit and we lost touch :(. truth is though, i've always been seen as the "shy but nice kid" and i'm honestly cool with that. i'm in introvert, so in all honesty, having too many friends sounds overwhelming and exhausting, and i am by no means an expert. if nothing else (and this is what i did in p.e.), you can always group together with the other shy/awkward kids and even if you kinda stand in silence for the first little while (which is what happened to me), you'll eventually get to talking and it seems to work itself out. sorry if this wasn't as helpful, i'm still trying to figure out the best way to go about talking to people myself, and i haven't gotten a chance since the pandemic.

I'm mostly seen as the "boring, but nice, but nice" friend by "new friends". And the "backup friend" with my older friends. Corona just makes it 10x harder to get out of that label. This year, I went completely remote, and I was the new kid at my school, and I met this other "new kid" in my class (through ft). But what sucks is that she met another girl at the same time as me and now their so much closer. Which, honestly, I don't mind, but it justs makes me think that I'll never be able to make close friends. I mean, the girl knew me and the other one for the same amount of time and pretty much abandoned me. I'm not really jealous, considering that I don't even know either of them that well, but I'm just jealous of people who can be close to another person so quickly. lol. Idk honestly. I just can't figure out how to make a best friend that actually thinks I'm fun to be around AHDSKJNF. I start freshmen this year 😌, I’m new and I went from Texas to Illinois and I had a rough move a lil , All my advice is new or not do not give a lot of personal information about urself and try to start with basics of knowing someone as well look forward to the first day of school (outfits,ft with friends or smth) and don’t stress it cuz that’s not gonna do anything , good look for everyone when school starts !!

I’m new at my high school. My elementary school I had almost 2 full classes hate me. I really want to make friends and talk but I’m so scared of making a foul out of myself I don’t talk at all. I like to wait till someone talks to me but no one does. This vid helped me. I just lost my confidence but I’m sure I will make friends soon I hope.

Today was my first day of school at a new school in a different country in which they speak another language than the one I grew up talking with. I didn't make any friends cause I can't express my self completely. I regret moving. Fuck this I'll be alone this entire school year
yo same. but they won't let me go to school until I can speak their language which means I miss a year. while all my friends graduate next year I will be starting high school again hopefully where I started. it sucks.
