I use 5 wraithguard with a spiritseer to march up the table alongside an avatar. The intention was to ensure my opponent had a dilemma of who to shoot, and whoever they didn’t would start wreaking havoc in their lines. Oddly enough, everyone I’ve used this on (Tau, Imperial Guard, & Orks so far) have ALL shot at the Wraithguard before the Avatar!!😂😅😂. So what do we call this? A “Distraction GUARDafex”?😂😅😂
😂😅 Lmfao yes!! The avatar has his own little bodyguard!
Most expensive distraction guardafex i've ever heard about tho :P I used to use the wraithlord as a distraction LORDafex (see i can to make wordplay) because big is scary to most people
@@viktorf6798 Also a great idea!
@@viktorf6798 True, but it wasn’t intended that way…. It was supposed to be a dilemma, but surprisingly everyone shot at those guys over the Avatar, which I thought would have been the opposite, given the points difference and the avatar’s potential for general mayhem in the shooting phase, close combat phase, and overwatch.
Dont forget folks. Likes increase exposure on youtube. Don't just watch it.
😉 my Asur having my back 🙏
Love my ghost Bois! I'll play em even if they suck, so it's nice to know they still have some play 😊
Dude they are pretty awesome!
I for one welcome the third impact.
It feels so cute shooting with them 3x a Battle round sometimes lol
@@deadofn1ght it’s awesome!!
Boosting this cuz I remember the good times with my wraith boys.
I love the Wraiths!! Imo still way better than they were in 9th!
So essentially as long as the opponent kills enough wraithguard (usually 3) to the point where we can pull them out of engagement range right before consolidation, we can still make our retaliation shots. Honestly I kinda like this as a slight middle ground between always having pistols and just not being able to fend off most dedicated charging units. It feels like it could be a bit unintended, but as we saw the original intention of always being able to shoot was just somewhat OP, so at least now the ability rewards some extra setup and skill if played this way.
Yes exactly, not sure if it was intentional either but that’s how every similar ability in the game works so really it’s just up to GW to clarify it for all factions in the core rules. It does indeed reward a bit of hand knowledge to pull it off though!
I've been running a 10 man wraithguard brick even after all the nerfs because they fit thematically in my Iyanden colour scheme or with the Ynnari in my opinion.
They are very cool! I love them still regardless ❤️
Sneaky! Love it. Brother could you please do a vid on the Yncarne? Really wanna use this thing but struggling to justify it over the Avatar of Khaine
Will do my friend!! Been wanting to look into the Yncarne again!
I use a wraith flank in my list, 5xguard+spirtseer 5xblades with axes and a wraithlord !
Nice dude that is awesome 😉 I like that combo!
I always felt that Banshees are a good counter-assault unit. They’re long range gives them the ability to intercede in melee to protect key units or clear an objective. That being said, I’m gonna play my Wraiths with Incubi instead because I play Ynnari.
I love Banshees with their new points cut! You are spot on as well their threat range is amazing 🥲
Merci pour cette vidéo 👍
Thank you my friend 🙏😎
Very clever, but quite situational. An opponent has to get a low charge roll or make a big mistake while moving their models. If there are no solid walls on both sides of the whole action, the infantry can just pass its own models to get to more Wraithguards. So if an opponent lacks skills, if they charge with non-infantry or if there is a particular terrain... it should work!
If you spread three front Wraithguard two inches apart your opponent should have trouble moving past if positioned correctly. It’s something to keep your eye out for but yes s large charge roll could be trouble
Phantasm could increase that distance too
@@ProxyHammer1 I'm thinking of my friends I play with. I have to pretend I do it unintentionally, otherwise, they would know I'm up to something. :D
@@nocnygrajek so what will they gonna do? not charge you? the horror indeed
You speakin' my language
Legend 😎
It's good that wraithguard are still good enough to be able to field but I find their effectiveness is very dependent on the spiritseer. Competitive lists have lots of answers to them. As an eldar/drukhari main player I would be quite confident in a mirror match against a wraith brick. The wave serpent trick is cool but pretty pricey for a fast response unit.
Totally agree they still have plenty of counters and anti infantry wrecks them
A little random, but as someone who joined in 10th edition, it's so funny to me to see veterans refer to psyker abilities by their names (doom, guide) when I just associate the ability by the name of the model (eldrad, farseer skyrunner). Seems like GW kind of messed up the psychic abilities with how versatile they seemed to be
Yep very true lol 😂 I did that without even thinking about it 😅
Doesn't the enemy get to consolidate before you can shoot back with the wraithguard?
Yes but you have to make it into base contact so if you use 2-3 wraithguard spread out in front to prevent the enemy unit from being in engagement of more than 2-3 models thrm once those models die you can shoot
Ehh, I’ve had my fun with my Wraithguard already. At their current points I feel like if I have to choose between them and Khaine, I’m taking Khaine. I’ve found that a big brick of Windriders with a Farseer Skyrunner can also threaten Orks pretty well, and they can also help complete secondaries and threaten overwatch a ton better than wraiths. Glad to see they’re still viable though.
For sure dude!! Yes you pretty much do have to choose between them and the avatar 🫤
@@ProxyHammer1 Unless you play Ynnari, then the choice is made for you!
@@prickles21 Very true!! Lol 😂
Im honestly surprised that you're surprised weaithguard are still viable
I thought they would be too easily countered 😐
With a literal reading of the rules, you are correct about the charge. But it doesn't feel to me that is the INTENT of the ability. Has this use of the ability been confirmed at tournaments?
It’s definitely not the intent but yes tournaments have ruled that abilities that happen right after attacks are made occur before consolidation
Strange that you can mix the swords and axes 5 and 5 in the wraithblades on the app but not in a 10 unit wraith guards. Like 5 D scythe and 5 D canons. It could be nice to mix them, no ?
It would be nice to mix 😞 unfortunately that’s not the case 🫤
In the example provided at the end, is that not impossible as the front model is outside Coherency?
No they are supposed to be exactly 2” apart. I forgot to mention there should be a third wraithguard in a triangle up front but I forgot to put it in 🫤 oops 😅
@@ProxyHammer1 The distance is fine, you would want as much space as possible, it was the missing model that caused confusion.
Not sure if I follow the sequence. If the enemy melee unit kills all your Wraithguard in engagement range (thus allowing you to shoot), surely you're not in combat anymore and can't pile in and fight?
Well if your opponent decides not to consolidate into them then yes I believe so… but that works out even better as you don’t have to fallback with feigned retreat
i am personally a fan of ynnari because i get to slap 10 wraithguard and a spiritseer in a raider with 11 firing deck and rain hell on my opponent with a big fat flying shield
How? Wraithguard don't have the Drukhari keyword
Ya unfortunately that’s not possible 😞 should be though!!! At least 5 models
I was thinking the same thing and for a second thought I was in a fever dream 💭
@@ProxyHammer1 oh no! so im super curious now, where in the rules does it state that the passengers have to have a matching key word? yvraine can legally lead an army with both raiders and 10 wraithguard plus a spiritseer, the raider does have the aeldari keyword, what prevents it from being used in this case?
@@ProxyHammer1 okay so i do see that in the description if the raider it says “can transport 11 drukhari models” which makes sense, but on my first read feels more like flavor text? like i feel as if they would have said something to the effect of “11 models with the drukhari keyword”. also all drukhari models do have the aeldari keyword but thats a little less salient as its not the same the other way round. idk but if yall are right my homie who runs necrons is gonna be so happy to hear it xD
Do you have any specific events that have allowed people to do this?
Every single event allows this as it’s RAW and goes down to the sequence of combat (Wraithguard’s ability works against everything defined as an attack)
Nice one @@ProxyHammer1
What's meant by guiding when he talks about shooting
Farseer Skyrunner using guide for hit re-rolls
Wouldn't an opponent simply consolidate into the remaining wraithguard?
The Wraithguard attacks are made before consolidating 😉
@@ProxyHammer1Actually no. Both effects trigger at the same time. Thus attacker's priority will mean he consolidates first.
@@anselme9493 unfortunately not in this case, the ability states that it triggers after attacks are resolved. This is discussed in the rules commentary about abilities that interrupt the normal phase sequence. Attackers priority in this situation would be if your opponent had an ability that also triggered immediately after attacks are made just like the Wraithguards.
@@ProxyHammer1 consolidation also triggers after all attacks are made.
@@anselme9493 Yes true but this is clarified in the rules commentary under the title "just after". Unit and ability rules take priority over the next step in the phase.
Thw shooting while in combat thing clearly isn't what was intended and if a player tried to do something like that ahainst me itd be the last time id play them. I hate that this channel encourages things like that
Almost every “attack after you attack” interaction works like this.
Are those kinds of interactions intended? Probably not…but then again GW hasn’t fixed it so it is what it is 😐
Warhammer is full of random exploits in all armies. GW has looked at wraithguard several times and deemed this rule fine.
If you want to use house rules then whatever, it's your choice. However if someone uses actual rules (although in this case I would always warn my opponent a few times of their ability, don't want to catch them out) it's a bit childish of you to just pick up your toys and go home
@@MarcosGarcia-ot2lt I would say it's a bit childish to exploit a rule in a way it clearly wasn't intended to be used just to get an advantage in a game of toy soldiers. Most people play casually and this sort of thing isn't very casual
@@ProxyHammer1 But how many videos have you made about not being "that guy"? And then you encourage play like this?
I guess in a tournament it's fine but for 90% of games which are just casual between friends I wouldn't say picking loopholes in rules is better than taking a meta cheese list which apparently you are against.
@@criticalcommenter This is definitely not a casual thing to play, in a casual game I would not do this or would warn ahead of time
