I've always head cannoned that Perterabu is a deamon prince of nobody. He studied the process of becoming a deamon, and he essentially recreated it to become a sort of deamon without alaegance to the chaos gods. More of a warp entity rather then a true daemon in the traditional sense.

I love the idea that Perturabo only *appears* to be a Daemon Prince, because hes so huge, horrific and powerful- that hes more like an archaeotech-super dreadnought that burns greater daemons for fuel to shore up his waning, wounded soul, hence the ability to use nurglite abilities, for instance. Perhaps the Iron Cage was used to barter this tech from Vashtorr, and that hes got a close connection with the dark mechanicum. Maybe Kelbor-Hal even lives on Medrengard, the Savage Morticians are dark magi that are already known to reside there.
It would be a neat opportunity for there to be a unique traitor primarch who gets to have a consistent characterization from start to finish- Perturabo becoming a true daemon prince just doesnt sit right with a lot of fans, this would allow him to have a cool spotlight inspite of his neglect both in lore and in real life.

Perturabo is like the kid who's homework everyone copies. He's kind of a pushover, and suspects other kids don't like him and only use him, but he's too afraid to actually stand up for himself, so he turns into a ball of rage.

  • @RSBurgener
    @RSBurgener Před měsícem +117

Let's not forget that in Slaves to Darkness, Perturabo witnessed the Daemon Sa'ra'am change his son Volk into the first Obliterator. "I'm not going to give him back to you. I'm going to give you a weapon." I think that when Perturabo decides he wants to become the perfect weapon, he's envisioning something like this, even using the same verbiage. Sa'ra'am was a Daemon of Khorne who, much like Drach'nyen, was formed when the first human crafted a tool to kill another human being. And Sa'ra'am was perfectly happy to be bound to the forge moon of the tech priests. This left him relatively free from authority because Khorne was no longer able to control him. This is the ideal alliance for Perturabo, who also does not want to be bound by the authority of the Chaos Gods. I would not be at all surprised if Perturabo returns to Sa'ra'am and strikes the bargain for which Volk was merely the prelude. And I think it's pretty clear that hatred is the vehicle by which Perturabo is changed, likely even fueled. So the Iron Cage becomes his method of his ascension because Dorn is the object of his hatred. And because Sa'ra'am is free from the influence of Khorne, Perturabo could be considered Undivided, not because he has the power of all four of the gods like Abaddon, but because he has a power that is beyond any of them.

@@Diditallforthexp I meant to say "thank you" and "you're welcome". Maybe I'm a scholar, but I think of myself more as "a creative" who's a big fan of The Iron Warriors. I've tried to absorb the lore and the mood and the vibe in order to illustrate my models. I don't *really* know what Perturabo would do, but I do believe the seeds of the story have already been planted. At this point of the story, I think Perturabo wants two things: he wants to be no one's tool ever again and he wants revenge against the ones he hates and that's Horus, Dorn and The Emperor. He's lost everything. And as Bob Dylan once said "when you ain't got nothin', you got nuthin' to lose". He now lives to inflict destruction and construct the great monument to his loathing, and that will eventually be Medrengaard. But first he must possess the power, the ability to wreak his vengeance. It'll be interesting to see how he chooses to gain that power and what form he will take. Grahama McNeill has described him as a white, dead face staring out of an Iron Sarcophagus. He is still wearing his original armor, changed by The Warp into a dreadnought type of form? I suppose? His hammer has completely changed. But that's about all we know. We don't know what his powers as a deamon are, but that will be really cool to see. Most people I've talked to would like to see him as a super Obliterator, fleshmetal cannons to the max! I really look forward to a model one day!

P.S Dorn isn't dead. GW already retconned the date the Rynn's World incident happened so the aftermath lines up with the end of the Indomitus Crusade. How does this prove Dorn lives on?
Well in the book Rynn's World they specifically mention an artifact on the Crimson Fists homeworld that contains some of Dorns still living blood. Something like his blood still being fine proves he still lives on and is watching over his sons is said, hinting he is perfectly fine.
No other reason why GW would retcon the date of the incident.
Towards end of Indomitus Crusade Guilliman reaches Rynn's World and meets Chapter Master Kantor. He instructs him to finish clearing the system of xenos and then to stand ready...... Hinting at later lore progression.

The paralell being it proves to perty that he was wrong, the emperor DIDNT use him like a tool, horus DIDNT use him like a tool.

Look at Mortarion himself, equally hateful of the warp if not more and yet forced into being a servitor of nurgle. Having perturabo in a constant state of hate toward the entire universe because of what he was forced to become is the best kind of development i could see for him.

I believe it’s Lost and the Dammed but it may be First Wall where we can see more about Perturabo’s plans for using the warp. The chaos sorcerer from the Word Bearers along with Typhus summon the star worm to create the Plague of Unbelief. Through the narrator and Abbaddon we see Perturabo intently watching the ritual and both he and Abbaddon ask questions about the nature of the warp and how the rituals work.
The sorcerer tells them it’s not necessarily anything to do with ritual but the use of powerful symbolic gestures and INTENT that feeds chaos/bends it to your intended use, example he gives being a sacrifice isn’t an automatic gift to the warp but a sacrifice with the intention of gaining notice from the gods does. I think Perturabo being a Primarch makes it easier for him to see how this works.
My guess aligned with yours that he does try to do a warp ritual, the Cage of Iron wasn’t only a challenge to Dorn but a symbolic ritual combat to gain favor with the gods.
In Fulgrim we see how the Layerin sword lies to Flugrim using his obsession with perfection to lure him towards chaos, SLANEESH IS NOTHING TO DO WITH PERFECTION, but obsession is the gateway to extremity and excess. I think Perturabo made contact with a warp entity and it told him he could be more powerful ‘without giving himself fully to chaos’. It lied like the demon lied to Flugrim. Either Perturabo backs out of the deal at the last moment gaining some power but essentially still eternally dying or he just got screwed over like the other demon Primarchs did.

The warp is timeless (meaning cause and effect dont necessarily run in order), so assuming Vashtor ascends to godhood at some point Perterabo could be the first of his Daemon Princes . . . or more likely, have parlayed his assistance in Vashtor's ascension to gain the status of an independent warp entity, since he has always wanted to preserve the freedom of his will.

In some way, Perturabo could be like Prometheus, stealing the fire from the Gods, and paying the price for it (never reaching the recognition he craves). It would be a callback to how the Emperor is also considered Prometheus in the final novel of the Heresy, and how each Primarch is a reminiscence of him. Also, it's quite possible that Perturabo is not a Daemon Prince per se, but instead did like Corax and "unlocked" their full Warp potential, with all his rage and hate giving him this horrendous walking-dreadnought shape.
The Chaos Undivided thing should truly be retconned. Chaos is far more interesting if we look past beyond the 4 great Gods, with the Chaos Undivided being just for those who channel the dark warp energies without giving tribute to the 4 Gods. It would create very risky situations, like a fully wap Corax being loyal but siphoning dark warp energies at the cost of his own soul, a Wulfen Russ purified by the tears of Isha, whatever-prize-versus-doom story. Belakor fits very well in this kind of retcon, as he represents someone who plays the long game to climb step by treacherous step into the power ladder of Chaos.

In the case of the Daemon Primarchs I think it's easy to explain why we haven't gotten any books from their perspective. The reason is twofold: Chaos may be the biggest threat to Humanity, but they're not the biggest merchandise sellers. Games Workshop wants to capitalize on the Imperium most of all, given how people view it as the "good guys" and the "protagonists" of the setting.
Two, Chaos changes you, especially when you've become a Daemon Prince. By that point, you're no longer a creature of the materium, but a being of the Warp, twisted and corrupted into a foul thing, no longer even remotely sane.
As for the Primarchs, well, they naturally were created by the Emperor as beings of both the physical realm and of the immaterium. Corax himself states he's shed the visage of his physical form and become what he was meant to be.
Not a daemon, mind you, but something else.
Moreover, I suspect the Chaos Primarchs daemon forms are in fact, corrupted parodies of what they were meant to be.
