Pro Touring 1969 Camaro 540 BBC Detroit Speed Suspension and Holley EFI At V8 Speed & Resto Shop
Some say these cars are never finished, and that holds true especially when a modified car changes hands. In this case, our customer purchased this killer 1969 Chevrolet Camaro as a freshly completed Pro-Touring machine complete with a slick silver paint job and a very cool red leather interior, but the 700+ HP 540-cube Shafiroff big block Chevy and 6-speed T-56 Magnum transmission are a bit much for the otherwise stock suspension. The huge torque easily overpowers the rear tires, and the handling isn’t up to the expectations of the owner. So, the car was sent to the V8 Speed & Resto Shop so our crew could take the suspension, rear axle, wheels, tires, brakes, and a few other areas of the car to the next level.
The big challenge - installing a complete Detroit Speed QUADRALink rear suspension and front subframe, wheel tubs, Currie Enterprises rear axle, Forgeline wheels, Toyo Tires, Holley EFI, and more without damaging the beautiful silver paint or messing up the body panel fit. After all, something that looks this good should have the moves to match!

Finally a '69 Camaro with a natural aspirated Rat. Not some everyday LS build 👍
You do haft to admit ls’s are better for a lot of cars, remember fuel injected, better mileage but not original
haha check out the next version of this car when it gets an LT4
Meh... I’d rather have my LS I can hop in it and drive it anywhere for reasonable gas mileage while in a nice car not many have.
Oh what I could do with that shop and all that amazing talent working there. This would be my dream job ! You guys never cease to amaze! Incredible workmanship. Imagine doing this job in a two car garage back home. Two car, not two and a half... no lifts, none of those goodies.
I would love to work there.
Wow Mr. Kevin ur knowledge and expertise is overwhelming, continued success and happiness sir awesome
You're very kind Randy! Thank you for the feedback!
V8TV what an incredible update/repair & rebuild of a great looking 69 Camaro! Talk about a stressful and challenging task...it had to be a step back, deep breath, plan & dive in and execute! You guys did a fantastic job, well thought out and it looks and sounds fantastic. Well done the owner has to be very happy!
Thanks for the kind words Andrew, we're very fortunate to have some great customers to work with and an outstanding crew that can handle these tasks with great skill. We'll pass your comments to the team, thanks again!
V8TV the recognition of exemplary work is well deserved!!
This project is insane.
LOVE YOU GUYS YOU MAKE DREAMS COME TRUE
Thank you Louis, what can we do for you?
Very sharp looking Camaro. The upgrades are fantastic piece of work.
Beautiful work!
Great Job! I called the guys at V8 Speed Shop for some information on this build. Very nice, helpful and super knowledgeable! Thanks for your help!
Thanks Walter!
perfect stance and setup
Love the car great work
Nice work, Kevin......love the car
Outstanding in every way.
Thank you for the kind words!
Great story, great car and great work 😊👍
Thank you! 👍
Amazing great stuff
Beautiful car, I wouldn't change a thing.
Matt Farah's Million Mile Lexus ya... like no stupid custom front end.
Very Nice.
Sorry to ask a stupid question, but does anyone know what the 2 silver pear shaped pieces with holes in them on the front subframe are for? Im guessing for tow hooks but would rather ask than guess. What an awesome camaro!!
Not a stupid question at all, those are in fact tow hooks. Thanks for asking and for the kind words!
Window shopping sucks.... Wish I had 100k+ to play with.
That's a bad ass car. I have a similar engine with Holley Hp and I have a question please. At Idle I'm having a fouling condition. I notice you have the idle at 15.2 A/F ratio. What total timing do you have at idle? Thank you in advance.
Nice car. Except for the red interior .
WOW! I bet that Repair BILL was near $500.00!
@v8tv hi I’m Dallas Texas and I can’t find anyone in this area to install a lt4 that I bought and I was wondering if I could pay u guys to give me a list of of everything I need to install my engine?
I have the 2018 crate LT4, oil pan, tremec tko 600, bell housing , flex plate ,radiator
Terrell, we're happy to help. Perhaps the best thing to do is fill out our contact form at www.v8speedshop.com/contact and we can get the conversation started. Thanks!
V8TV thanks I’ll do that now
Good god what did that cost?
Why they used SRA over IRS?
Pietrek L I don't know... preference maybe.
Forgive me for sounding like a jerk, but why not fit a modern IRS rear end if you're gonna do all that work?
Why did you not inform us as to what you charged for all of this work?
Hi John, there are several reasons. it is our policy to respect our customers privacy and not discuss the financial aspects of our customers cars in public. In addition, each car is different requiring different amounts of work or parts. However, we're happy to chat with you in a quick call if you'd like, we can learn more about your particular project and goals and can answer specific questions about costs and time. Thanks for asking!
this thing is awesome! you guys should do my 69 cutlass lol she needs help
Dominic Daley yeah I have a 68 they can do lol
Detroit speed makes great stuff but damn most expensive, they want $890 for a 86 Monte Carlo SS steering box and 10 grand for my car suspension
In the programming world we call it 'Creeping Featuritis'.
Sorry it's a fuel injected rat. Were the subframes connected? It looked like it. For all that money and time I would have gone with an independent rear! Also a 6pt. Roll cage for that power...
How much does something like this cost?
Shafiroff engine leaks again
you never tell pricing.. i guess if you ask you can not afford it .. OK so ill delete this lol
Poor car. Should’ve just gotten a modern camaro and leave this one alone with its stock build
