How to Spend $300K on a Twin Turbo 1969 Camaro

- We're back with my friend Mike Cavanah who you saw in a previous episode when we drove his custom 1966 Chevelle built by Timeless Kustoms. In this episode we go deep into the details of his Twin Turbo 1969 Camaro also built by Jason and the crew at Timeless Kustoms. With so many comments and questions about the dollar amounts spent building custom vehicles I've felt inspired to educate a little on just how much time, energy and ultimately money goes into creating these one of a kind customs vehicles.
Enjoy the ride!

People that understand don’t need an explanation; people that need an explanation won’t understand.
Very impressive car!
Thank you! I couldn’t agree more with you here 👊
Exactly
Facts
I’d take one of these before a lambo 😂
I don’t understand the confusion, you’re literally rebuilding a whole new car....lol that costs money!
The only thing really "camaro" left about it is the shape of the body.
@@FUBBA that’s the best part
@@gt3jacobyexactly.... some of the available engines were great, and the body design (and interior usually) is what makes you want the car....but anyone who's driven an untouched car from the beginning of the automobile up until the 90 damn near knows, they absolutely suck at actually driving and handling and performing.... there's those occasions where you end up with a rare beast, say a super rare Z11 package W-Block 427 Impala, numbers matching, and you'll refresh the car to bone stock (and it's still going to cost you 100k) just because it's a rare unicorn, or an old 69 COPO 427 Camaro or Yenko, nobody in their right mind would customize one of those anymore, but all these great bodys need to perform like they look.
It's like this, you can dump 150k on something like this Camaro already done, second hand, or you could spend the same on a brand new 992 911 Carrera S or GTS.... people will have the difference in taste for sure, and like it or not, a 992 Carrera S will absolutely smoke this thing in every single aspect, and while the 992 is gorgeous and I'd kill to own one, there's no real argument which one looks and makes you feel like this thing would, even if you're getting 8mpg and you get smoked by a bone stock base Carrera S that'll get 30mpg 😅
@@johnnygeorgopoulos4072 yup, I have a 992 gt3 and it’s an amazing car. At the same time classic cars will always be cooler to me. All original classics drive like shit, like you said but they look absolutely beautiful
Idk why this channel doesn’t have 500k followers. So under appreciated! But very appreciated by its subs!
I just came across your channel this evening and I have been watching video after video after video. You have really good content, seriously one of the best channels I have ever seen. Thank you for your videos.
120k in parts, the rest labor, quality is never cheap.
You get it. Shocking how many people don't seem to understand even when you show them and tell them prices. And I'm not the builder so I don't make a dime off of these vehicles. Glad you understand.
😩
way to much i bet he loses 100k to 150k on it easy if hed decided to sell cause he ran into money problems.
Customs cars take a huge amount of time at every step of the build. Time is money as I'm sure everyone agrees? Should the guys that build these cars work for free? Would any of you work for free? Doubt it
This is like when rich people buy jewelry quarter million dollars for a chain really only actually 50 or $60,000 worth of gold and diamonds. You could buy a 2019 Hellcat Redeye top of the line Corvette most expensive Camaro in the lot and have 50 or $60,000 left over. The video should be called how to waste 300K on an inferior product. Plus this car will do nothing but lose value day by day when he could have bought a Yanko 427 all original and it would at least stay the same or be more valuable.
$300K car and you need a prop rod to hold the hood up? Was gas struts not in the budget? lol. Still it's a cool car, thanks for posting.
@///AMG You missed the point it was about design and style which the proper and does not represent nor reflect the $300k
Mike has three beautiful cars in his collection, '69 Camaro's are my favourite of all the Camaro's, this one is exceptional. Great video of giving us some facts and figures of what goes into these builds. One of my all time favourite channels on CZcams my man, great work😎👍
Thank you and yes, Mike has some badass builds for sure. But this one was sold recently to Kevin Hart...and he’s been driving it a lot!
Smart man. He bought it after it was built. You save big money. That is one beautiful ride. I love turbo cars....
I think other than the color and powerplant this build as a whole defines my dream car! Beautiful body style a clean simple look with the drivetrain and suspension to make it handle on rails! The scenery was great too 😍 Great vid Shawn!
Thanks!! It's such a cool build. Fairly subtle considering all that's in it. Loved driving it!
Over half the budget went to making the builder rich , would be the short version . Beautiful car none the less , and great video quality , so i subbed .
jerry henderson sometimes having a good mechanic working on your car is as important as the parts going into it
Hey being good pays off.
No shit. Good labor is not cheap.
loving your videos brother! got yourself a new sub and notisquad!
Thanks!!! I really appreciate the support as we're trying to make this channel one of the best and biggest for automotive enthusiasts. And I promise every Tuesday and Friday we'll be dropping something.
Love that camaro shawn absolutely stunning
Great work. And very informative keep up the great work bro
Thanks Ross. Yeah, it's another great build from the guys at Timeless Kustoms. They really understand how to build a great looking car that drives hard.
Love the videos man! Keep up the good work!
Thanks and I promise I will. Shooting a cool event tomorrow. We're taking Vicious Mustang to compete at the Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary in the morning. If we get lucky it'll be made into a die cast Hot Wheel!
I would take that car over a spaceship and am not kidding. No words can describe that car and the amount and variety of work that went into it.
300k is so easy to do in these cars. The amount of labor that it takes to do this is insane. My Sledgehammer camaro was 250k build and I sold it for just over 100k. So the .50 cents on the dollar is accurate depending on the economy and buyer. Also a 300k car could be even higher as the builder cannot or does not charge for every single hour charged because it would be well over 300k. I know for a fact that my car would have been over 325k if he charged for every hr worked on. Builders sometimes will forgive many hours because it becomes so much that they can't do it. The clients are typically aware of this. This car was more than likely a 400k car when all was said and done. Beautiful build.
Nice to see and hear from someone who understands it from a client perspective. Blows my mind how few people understand the costs associated with builds of this nature.
These builds are on par with trophy truck builds. They cost like 250k and up.
no65mph Hour rates can kill the wallet
no65mph why would anyone invest that much into a car they will not keep for life?
Love your videos Sean, amazing! You really make me want to buy another foxbody mustang. I really miss having a muscle car after watching this video. I miss the sound and excitement it gives having a muscle car. Keep doing what you are doing brother. I am truly a huge fan.
Thanks! I appreciate the compliments on it all. And yeah, for me there’s nothing like a well done muscle car. They hit my passion button hard!
If you got the funds to build or buy a 69 Camaro like this...awesome..most of us don’t...but we have this channel to watch to enjoy a beast like this..what a car...it’s looks and sounds amazing...thanks Shawn
Found you thanks to Sam the Man STG.... so glad I subbed.... awesome channel..... respect from across the Pond
Thanks!! I'm really glad Sam came by the shop and introduced me to you guys. He's so cool and we had a great time shooting. Every Tuesday and Friday we put up a new video and we have so many great cars to show. Thanks for the support.
Incredible execution of performance and style 👏
Another cool video, don't get hung up on some people's comments... Just keep bringing us the awesome builds!
Thanks and I promise I'll keep bringing you great builds. Of all forms of cars my passion button gets hit hardest by customs so I'll keep showing you some amazing vehicles. Thanks for the support of what we're doing here.
I was very tempted to buy this car from Mike, just found this video wish I saw this video sooner. Great content man this is my kinda content. AF
Thanks! Mike is a great guy and this build is so cool! Just love this car. Would love to hammer it hard cause you know it’s all there.
still tempted to buy it but my roads are so bad out by me i do not drive any of my vintage stuff anymore too risky after this past winter. Mike is a cool dude we spoke many times. His Chevelle is awesome.
I’m so stoked I found this channel... gonna watch the ‘66 chevelle next...
Great episode, love it!
Thank you…we just did a reshoot of it in its new version. Kevin Hart owns it now and did a repaint, new Gabes interior and new turbos. It’s even better now although I love the old race inspired interior
geeeeeeez!!! this is a awesome channel, i'm so glad i randomly came across this channel, one episode and i instantly subscribed
Thanks for the sub and for finding us! Glad you like what we're doing. Lot's more to come I promise.
Please get more videos together, your one of the best I have seen very watchable and very interesting. A car channel should have the attention to detail as yours does!!!
👍
I'm envious as I'm in rainy Northern Ireland 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 👍 💪
Thanks Jonathan!! I appreciate the feedback and support of the channel. We're just getting started and I promise I'll be showing a lot more amazing vehicles. And we are so lucky here in Southern California to have the roads and the weather. Great driving most days of the year.
Best $300K you could ever spend
👊 and now it belongs to Kevin Hart...hoping it gets driven a lot!
Hopefully he doesn't crash it
@@AutotopiaLA lmao that's hilarious
Sweet Camaro love it i have my stock 69 Z28 best car ever !
Sounds like you have a good one too and one that’ll gain value. This one was sold recently to Kevin Hart
The sound of that car is worth the 300k alone!! Thank you for sharing 💪 ✌️ 🍻
You're welcome and I agree!! And I never really got deep into the accelerator and it still sounded great. Would love to hear it up over 5,000 or 6,000 rpm's!!
Haha good sound but no lol.A stainless catback is about 1.5 grand without labour. Smart engineering can make most v8s sound at least just as good.
Such a beautiful car!
Fabulous
One of a kind. Worth every penny for people who can afford it.
Totally agree. Hope to be able to afford builds like this
Worth every penny !
Wow! I knew there was alot of money put into these cars to make them what they are. But $300k? Totally worth it I'm sure. But jeeez. And Just to let you know ... The part of the video that was discussing the parts and components and their cost was NOT boring. I don't know how you controlled yourself driving that in those rides and kept yourself from putting that $300k thru its paces. I can't even imagine what it must feel like behind the wheel of something like that. Excellent episode!
Ls series motors make unpredictable insane power when built up and boosted. Unbelievably reliable. Gotta say, the body on that thing is glass. Bet it was nice to drive!
They really are easy to make a lot of power with. Yeah, this car was great to drive. Kept it slower than I'd like but that's typically what I do when driving other peoples cars.
A piece of art ... love to own one lucky man
Agreed and I’d love to own this one.
I really like your videos!! This is the 3rd video I've watched from your channel, so I decided to subscribe. Also what camera do you use? You vidz are Ultra HD quality!
Thanks! Paul handles all the shooting. It’s a Sony but can’t remember the model. Sorry. It shoots great and having a couple of nice lenses helps.
Absolutely BA. Worth every penny.
9:30 when a random new Camaro passes you from the opposite direction.
Corvette actually
I love it 😍😍😍 god bless that project
It’s a great build
Just discovered this channel through a car review of vicious! Lovin the channel so much, it should be called the bad ass car channel 😂
Thanks Liam!! We're still new at it so it still feels like we're just getting started. So many great cars to show you guys. I appreciate the support.
Nice cars Mike we need guy's like you both cars
He has a few killers
Wicked car and that white chevelle is something else and 300 grand is just about right
Glad you get it. Funny how many people comment saying they could build cars like this for $50K. You couldn't buy the parts for $50K. The Chevelle is great. We did an episode on that one a while back. Both really amazing cars and both built by Timeless Kustoms.
You dont need to explain to me about the high cost bro, Its worth every cent, Awsome car, looks like alot of work, I couldnt do it, it takes at least a year with a crew of experts. Great work,;
I like this Maro out of all the Maro's you've covered! It was close though! To the LSX 427
Great looking car!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
The guys that don't get it are rocking BOSS 338 wheels and cut springs. There are levels to this game.....This car is has an insane amount of tech/man hours into it. I have a nice 69 Camaro but am fully aware this car is light years above mine.
Glad you get it. Always shocking to me how many people think they could build something like this for $10K in their backyard 😂
The best part of the video was seeing how you treated someone's car with real respect. Most reviewers have no problems with setting or leaning on a nice car. Low life reviewers will take a supercar out and flog it without a care in the world.
Thanks for noticing. I always go easy on other peoples cars unless they say to beat on it.
@@AutotopiaLA in this case I really wished he had of said to beat on it, dying to hear a full throttle pull!
Love this car thanks for sharing
It’s so cool!!
Hello wouldn't know what your on about here in the UK but interesting to know and learn plus watch. Also love your videos of all the cars that you cover from around the world but your brother's 991 GT3 RS by BBI is very good.
People who aren't car enthusiast or don't know anything about building a muscle car the right way will never know or truly understand.
Forget the famous name of a shop, the person could be a backyard engine builder or body and paint guy and do better then a big name shop.
I've known people who have bought muscle cars from Barrett Jackson Auctions and received lemons once they got their hands on it!
Always know and have someone you can trust when dealing with a high end build, no matter what the vehicle is.
I have 69 Camaro RS/SS Original 396/4 Speed, that I've been building as a Pro Touring car.
Just to give you an idea it has a 632CI naturally aspirated BBC dynoed at 1097HP(Pump Gas 91 Octane), no trans, no interior, bare metal but a lot of custom bodywork done, rims are 20x10 Fronts and 20x14 in the back, fully tubed, bare metal no paint, custom aftermarket frame, custom suspension and brakes which are 16" rotors with 6 piston fronts and 14" rotors with 4 Pistons in the back.
My private appraiser said when it's done it'll be at the 500K range!
Also keep in mind that I took part the brand new BBC 632 crate motor and am completely going through it and I am also going to Twin Turbo the motor as well.
As you can read I'm a big Motörhead!
I started racing as a teen and never looked back, well maybe only to look at my losing rival/competitor!🤔😅✌🏼️
A Truly incredible Machine. Well Done to the Owner, and the Shop
Cheapest part is that hood stand.. beautiful Camaro for sure!!
True. We still joke about the hood stand. But no joking about the build.
that camaro is pretty sick. love it
It’s such a cool build. Looks great and works as good.
I can understand that most people have a hard time understanding how expensive it can be. Quality parts are expensive. Most people will never build a car or be able to afford a car of this level, but what's up with the stick holding the hood open? Great video as always.
$300k and the middle left brake light doesn't work (6:49).
Always something with customs. Always.
Or any car for that matter
At 300k there shouldn't be a single flaw but as nice as it is you can find a bunch of things wrong if you know what your looking at
Sean, congrats on the channel, you are killing it. These are the cars that we, as motor head children, dreamed of seeing. Big power with a six speed is the ground work for awesome.
Thanks for sharing. A beautiful/badass Camaro for sure! But let your buddy Mike know his center light on left taillight is out while braking. I'm OCD
You are worse than my brother OCD! 😂
Smooth intro brother! Subscribed!
Thanks! And now that we have a much better editor I think the content has gotten better. Lots of cool cars to come for sure.
Hell yeah! If I may suggest another cool intro song would be by “Roy Ayers” “everybody loves the sunshine” I would love to see a classic car with a soothing classic intro! Nonetheless! Keep up the great content my guy!
Love this car!
Me too and it recently went through a massive overhaul
Great vid! What canyon road was that, it looks familiar?
Decker to Mulholland area.
omg I like this better than the Mercedes gold one! Dang! I'm in Love with 69 Camaros!
Love the video new subscriber keep up the great work I got a 69 Chevelle looking to restore but can't get nowhere with it due to the cost just a struggling landscaper but my question is with the build depend on what area of the continental US you live in so you live in California things seem to be higher there versus here in Florida would be great to hear of the cost of some builds in other parts of the country again new subscriber you may have already had a few builds in other parts of the area just haven't got to them yet great job great videos keep it up bro
Parts are parts but I’d guess labor rates change dramatically depending on where you have the build done.
this might be my fave 69 I've seen in here, its just purpose built, not frilly, just right
Finally some1 makes a video with car tht has decent music in the background..not tht bs techno crap
Thanks. And the car doesn’t suck either! Woohoo!!
Cool custom car.
Worth every fonkin’ penny.
damn that 69' camaro is badass 💪💪👍👍😍😍
Thanks Mike
I said the same thing when he handed me the keys 😎
Thanks Mike.for real
SWEET FLIP!!! On Average White Bsnd's "Love of Your Own"!!! Nicely SAMPLED/REARRANGED!!!
great show Shawn, really nice car! I think it’s just that if you don’t ‘wrench’ or are somehow involved with cars, a person has no idea of the cost. I’m just glad the industry is finally demanding value for talented work and product.
The best so far .nice job great narration super beautiful car Sounds like a million bucks. I have a 66 Impala Super Sport than working on for 10 years looks picture. Perfect. 383 stroker but I probably have 30 grand into mine. And everything brand new out of the box, but nothing to compare to this. I'm roughly 4:25 to 450 horsepower. Keep dreaming.
Keep going on it. Sounds like a good one
One of my dreams it to drive a late model Porsche or other sports car in the canyons in Malibu or around certain areas in California.
woweeee! And, he let you take it on the road. You one lucky friend. Woweeeeeeee!!
I know! I’m lucky to drive so many wonderful cars doing what we do
One of the best looking 69's I've seen. What road is that? I know its in LA. Just curious, looks like fun
This was Portrero Rd. And this car recently got a full overhaul with its new owner...Kevin Hart
I really appreciate that these folks are willing to share the info price wise , please thank them from an equal fan of American Performance,
Heck look at Singer Porsches / 600k to 1.8 M : why can't we build American super cars as well (?!)
I am loving your videos, I live a few blocks from the owner of this Camaro. I'd love to see it in person and the other car. I'm sick of all the italian sports cars, love these resto mods.
Mike has some cool cars. His Timeless Kustoms ‘66 Chevelle is badass too!
AutotopiaLA
Do either of you ever go to cars and coffee in Westlake?
Thanks Man for sharing yuor beauty puppy! 💪💪💪💪💪💪
Wish it was mine brotha! Shortly after shooting this it was sold to Kevin Hart
Mike is a smart man
Yeah 700 hp in an old car is insane
Right? Funny how it doesn't sound like much anymore in talk but when you drive it's a lot of car.
AutotopiaLA Yeah I’d shit myself if my mustang had 700 horse power😂
On any car
My car has 1800hp and 1400hp without nitrous
im happy that my car still has 4 wheels
6pot 15 inch Carbon Ceramic Brembos in the front and rear? The brake balance must be terrible, not to mention dangerous. Guess just another easy way for the builder to charge the customer 7k extra. Ethically that is messed up period, compromising the customers safety for an extra buck
What size are the rear tires?
While high dollar pro builds are impressive, home built "raw" cars are so much more interesting to me. I love all your videos, you have such great taste in which cars to feature. Keep up the good work!
Just wait this car is undergoing a major transformation!
Awesome!! Is that a C5 Z06 in that garage too? Love to see an episode on that car too!!
Yes and we will do an episode on it. It’s set up properly. Not massive hp but suspension, brakes, etc. He already said we can do a shoot with it. Soon.
AutotopiaLA Cant wait to see it!! Mines pretty much stock but its so much fun.
Beautiful car
Sure is and now it belongs to Kevin Hart. He’s been enjoying it the last few months
Bought a 289 fast back for 26k Not sure if I should start upgrades or leave it alone.
My other favorite thanks bro
Such a cool car!! I wanted to hit it much harder but it is someone else's $300K car and I really don't want to be that guy with any car...especially this one.
Wow us$300k?? Sure can get up there, especially if others are commissioning the entire build.
Helps when owners can get down n dirty & get involved in the build themselves eg: sourcing parts, some fab mods, final assembly etc.....
Time n Labour ain't cheap. Cool camaro though 👌
Absolutely right. This type of build and builder caters to the people with the checkbook to afford it and the sense to know they can’t build it themselves.
Bad ass car!
It really is a perfect build
Absolutely gorgeous
that is a beatiful car
It is and drives incredibly well
How wide are those wheels and tires?
Tires are 345 rear. Don’t know wheel size though
After building my twin turbo nova over 3 years I can absolutely see how paying a builder for a car like this can easily cost $300k. You can drop $10k at a time on just parts and it feels like you got barely anywhere on completing the build. If I had to pay labor my car would have cost a lot more than the 80 grand I spent on it over the last few years. I have a video on my channel and that was an 80k “budget build”. My friend and I did literally everything ourselves in his snow plow shop. Paying car shops for custom cars ain’t cheap!
with killer quality like that, the expenses are quite reasonable at that point.
Agreed. Parts and labor although some folks refuse to understand this concept.
So nice
What is hoseepower the cars sir thancs you dude
Who cares what people say about costs this 69' is the the most beautiful one I've ever seen
Please do a feature on that wide body V wagon!
We’re going to soon I promise!!
That area looks very familiar. Is that San Jose Ca?
No. Santa Monica mountains. Mulholland far north
killer build
I agree. The guys at Timeless Kustoms do exceptional work. I'll continue to show you guys more cars from them. I've already done 4 on our channel but they have a lot more worth seeing and driving.
cant wait mate
I wonder what the top speed would be in the 2.7 mile run?
Good question. Really good
