To the announcers: Emergency trauma medicine is a whole different animal than standard medical care. That's why they were calling for the people that are specialized in handling those kinds of situations even though they have a team doctor. Not to mention if it had been a serious life threatening situation you need the EMTs to bring a stretcher and prep the patient for transport and everything else.

    • @CubeInspector

Not only to the announcers. This is to everyone. I'm the spouse of a emergency medicine physician and the things they're trained to deal with are very different than a generalist. There are specialties in medicine for a reason.

    From Twitter:
Per #CBJ spokesman, Sean Kuraly was evaluated at Grant Medical Center, but not admitted. He was sent home Saturday evening after battery of tests proved negative.
Unclear how much time, if any, he’ll miss. Don’t expect an update from club until after the three-day holiday break.

We used to play floor hockey in the school Gym with wooden sticks cut off and a girls ice skating ringette ring.... I was flying the wing one day and the metal plate in the floor covering the hole where the Volleyball net went popped out and my stick went into it, INSTANT STOPPAGE.... luckily I had my stick down and both hands on it and , I did not let go and held on like hell with both hands , it speared me in the midriff and it flipped me all the way over and I almost landed on my feet, good thing there was a massive well taped knob on that stick or I could have been impaled.I think his hands came off his stick which sucks.

Always like to see the other team demonstrating concern when somebody is injured. The other bench were all looking over instead of just killing time, and a few watched from the ice. The officials also reacted, the lead ref following to ensure the game flow stayed clear while the other helped Kuraly clear the ice, and they didn't debate stopping play when called on.

Related to the comment about the tunnels and why the need to walk across the ice, I've been to an ice rink/hockey stadium for a convention, and if this building is designed similarly, you can't go straight from the Zamboni area to the team room areas directly. The fastest way to get there would be the way the paramedic went.

The doctor is only one person. If this is a serious medical problem, which it appears to be, there has to be medically trained personnel to help the doctor out. It would be nice for the people calling the game to not publicly criticize the man appearing to be walking across the ice slowly-he wasnt wearing skates. Also, its not his fault he wasnt on the other side of the ice when he was needed. Where are all the medical staff to begin with? Sounds like it was a case of bad circumstance and/or poor planning.
