@@dave131 Some people only consider fights to be fights when there are punches... or when their guy wins. I personally count wrestling as fights because it still gets the massage accross and shows who the stronger man is. Some people like to cope that's what it comes back to.
Nice to see bigger guys like Xhekaj sticking up for teammates and hold his own against a known league vet who can throw them like Reaves.
This is just ignorant. Who has Reeves actually thrown against? He's terrified of Lucic. Got his face caved in by Delauries. That's it. Those are the only guys in the league who can fight, and he will never come close to taking them down. Reeves would be working at a grocery store if this era had the likes of Probert, Crowder, Parker, Kocur, Twist
Reaves is a 37 year old has been, that really showed here.
That's not taking anything away from Xhekaj, even if he should have made sure not to get the instigator penalty.
Agree I'm a Stars fan and our biggest guy on the ice just walks around the ice don't really check I mean he plays defense but he doesn't check and he doesn't stand up for anybody. And guys like Reeves can walk around and just abuse and try to injure star players.

As a Leafs fan, I have nothing but respect for Xhekaj. He's tough as nails, plays physical, is a solid defender, and can throw bombs. In a game that is declining (imo) I really enjoy tuning in to watch him play. Sucks that players like him are becoming extinct

Cut the fanatic opinions, from either side. Reeves is an experienced, feared and respected fighter. The fact is this young guy went for him and was able to handle Reeves. That in itself commands respect. For now, those are the facts. And we can be quite sure they will cross paths again...
I don't know why Reeves kept saying let's go. He got slammed on his ass, and got overpowered.
Checking from behind? Boarding? No call? Therein lies the issue - no call when the Montreal player was facing the boards and Reaves checked him, causing the second Montreal player to defend his teammate.
If the NHL wishes to eliminate fighting from the game they need to crack down on those hits between the numbers, which are what causes the gloves to get dropped anyway.
The call will come from the league office when Player Safety reviews the tape---square in the numbers close to the boards. That's probably gonna cost Reaves 1-2 games.
