    Just used this kit to restore the headlights on my 2006 Infiniti G35 coupe. The results were excellent. Just wish they included two Trizac sanding discs ( one for each headlight) with the kit.

    Super comprehensive review, thx for that.
    I got to it as i wanted to know more about the process that professional restorers use here in Germany. By law, repainting is illegal and thus i have gotten the info that they have a special method which is wipe-on. As 3M is professional and wipe-on, i assume that this is what they use.
    The shop here in Germany also offers disassembly, thus both internal and external coating and re-sealing of the headlights of you ant to have that done. Especially on complex assemblies like luxury vehicles this is totally worth it.
    Thx again for the video which gave me a lot of insights!

    Great vid! I had already watched many vids trying to decide which one to use. Let me just say that I truly thought that I was going blind! I live several hundred miles from Houston and have made many trips to MDAnderson where we leave when it’s dark and return home in the dark. I couldn’t see and had o idea it was the dang Nissan Rogue headlights! Finally figured it out and ultimately bought the 3M ultra headlight restoration kit. My husband is using the kit as I type this. I had planned to do this but he had pity on me. I haven’t driven the car yet but I have great expectations! I did enjoy the vid and am happy that the guy at O’Reilly’s guided me to this kit. I just checked and they look great! Hoping I can see better at night!

    Used the 3M 39008 kit to restore my new in 2013 Renault Koleos headlights of a similar size and shape which were in worse condition than the ones on your Nissan. Similar to what you have here, except it comes additionally with the foam buffing pad disc and creme buffing compound included instead of the Headlight Clear Coat UV wipes. Also have to supply your own masking tape and gloves (included in this kit) -if you want them. I recommend wearing gloves with 3M's UV wipes. I had 3M masking tape already, and bought those 3M UV protection coating wipes separately. Used an 18v battery powered drill. The kit did a fabulous job. Restored them to the closest one could hope to achieve to when they were new. Understanding the process after doign the first, I achieved a superior result on the second headlight IMPE, although I produced an excellent result on the first I did too.
    Can't go wrong with this kit if you fiollow the instructions and apply common sense. One caveat. Be careful using a mains powered power drill. So powerful it's very easy to burn into the plastic as 3M warn in the instructions. Ask me how I know. = ] I tried an AEG mains powered initially on the second headlight. I recommend sticking with a good quality batter powered drill of at least 18V. I did both with grunt to spare off a freshly charge 2aH power pack.

      If used properly the trizact should last todo at least 2sets of headlights!! I personally believe people spend to much time on this step, Basically you add water to the pad + lens and polish until you get a white slurry evenly across the lens and stop, Wash the lens with any glass cleaner spray wipe and dry, Apply a quality headlight polish and polish (buff) untill good clarity shine, Then add clearcoat as shown!!!

    The Kit comes with 2 of the clear coat wipes, is that only enough for one layer on one side? or could you sand them both down and use one wipe for the first layer on both and the seccond wipe for the seccond layer?

    The other 3M kits also have polishing step after the 3000 grit step... does this kit doesn't have that or did you skip that?

    • @JsGarage
      @JsGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      This kit doesn’t have a polish step. It finishes up with the wipe on clear which works quite well.

    • @bobloblaw5406
      @bobloblaw5406 Před rokem +1

      The other kits using a polishing compound with i think is similar to "plastx". This is a better method/kit IMO as you're using physics of the liquid clear coat wipe to fill in gaps and make the surface smooth. This is the main step that leads to the greatly increased clarity when the clear coat is applied. The layer will be thicker than anything you polish/buff on, too. Secondly, check out the SDS/MSDS/safety data for the kit in question and you'll see UV stabiliser components that make it up. This is a must for any clear coat.

  • @keithroberts5611
    @keithroberts5611 Před rokem +1

    I think your choice of drill speed is questionable I would have selected number one on stage 1+ 2 and 2 for the p3000 trizact pad, Because water keeps the lens cooler!!, I think 3M cut corners here by not including the headlight polish as this is a important step to buf and hydrate and seal the lens?I personally didn't use the wipes? Instead I used Maguires clearcoat with added UV protection, To me I have brand-new headlights, My success is due to watching "The headlight restoration pro" I strongly recommend you do the same!!!🤔👍

    • @XxChuyoxX
      @XxChuyoxX Před 7 měsíci

    I honestly think the headlamp yellowing is from car wash detergents. - Any thoughts ?

    • @JsGarage
      @JsGarage  Před rokem

      I’m sure there is an influence for exposing headlamps to cleaning agents. My understanding is that the yellowing is from aging and the chemical reaction of plastic to UV exposure from sun light.

    • @JsGarage
      @JsGarage  Před rokem +4

      Just using a product as directed. Surely there’s a more premium way to do this but this works fine as packaged. So far the clear is out lasting the factory assembly which now is cracking and so on. Wipe on clear seemed laughable to me as well but it’s a year old and still looks good.

  • @hbadge22

    • @JsGarage
      @JsGarage  Před rokem +1

      These headlights had a lot of internal problems. Only so much you can do from the outside. Recently ended up replacing the headlight assemblies before selling to a family member because they ended up cracking more and leaking water. Nissan Altima had a recall that we missed out on. The clear gives the plastic UV protection it otherwise won’t have.

    Too much talking not enough actual work being done ... It's fairly easy to do if you can read and comprehend what your reading ... Also don't just use water while your sanding, use some cheap window cleaner or watered down Simple Green as a lubricant it helps to keep your sanding disk from getting too hot ... Also keep that disk moving in order to not create a hotspot, don't wanna melt that headlight ... Good luck ...
