      It was not developed with any care at all, which is a shame... There is a driver layout where you have the woofers on the outside and the tweeter(s) in the middle/between; the layout has a name, named after the guy who came up with it. This has to do with how the wave cones influence/shape each other as they propagate from the speaker. So you don't have to take my word for it I tried to find a video at the psaudio channel where this is discussed, but there are 10 years worth of video and I failed just now :) I just came across this same topic again today where they said that no credible designer would put the woofers centre and the tweeters on the outside... so whoever designed this did not have a clue and also did not bother to investigate speaker design worth 2 Cents. Avoid this layout in principle, you'll get the worst out of it. The layout should be inverted, i.e. tweeters at the centre.

    Good woodwork, but from the acoustic point of view there are some flaws. The cabinets seem to be too small for these speakers. That's why the middle bass is very loud, while the deep bass is missing. You used thin plywood for the rear panel. This weakens the cabinet against the pressure of the speakers. Furthermore, there should be a partition wall between the left and right channel in the housing. Apparently you didn't use any acoustic filling material. This can lead to unwanted resonances in the middle frequency range. One more word about closed and ventilated enclosures: Loudspeaker cabinets must be matched to the loudspeakers used. A loudspeaker that is good in a closed box is usually not good in an open box and vice versa. The keyword is "Thiele Small Parameters". If you know the Thiele Small parameters of your speakers, there is software that will calculate the right cabinet for you. As an old-school loudspeaker tinkerer I would like to say that I would never think of combining both stereo channels in one box. Stereo should allow a spatial sound image and therefore the loudspeakers must be further apart. Otherwise, a mono speaker would do just as well.

      The deep base is missing because he used crossover for mids. Your points are valid but how much Sq are you expecting from that little chinese amp?

    • @peterofenbaeck405
      @peterofenbaeck405 Před 5 lety +11

      deep base is missing because the cabinet is wa too small for these speakers. Given a decent amp base rendition depends mostly on what cabinet you use and what are the TSP (Thiel Small Parameters) of the speaker.

      @DonnyTerek  Před 5 lety +4

      Thank You Paul! i really appreciate that. The main power supply (which clearly was not shown in the video for too long) delivers 36V at 6A. That other power supply is only for the Bluetooth module and preamplifier, to eliminate any ground loop noise. I would always consider a decent offer for a speaker of your choice!

      Good job. The box itself would be a great kit for people who want to DIY but don't have access to those tools. Not everyone has a table router, if a router at all. I would go for a mono version as the stereo effect is a non factor when merely wanting to put sound outside. An 8" woofer and 2" tweeter driven by a 25W amp is more than adequate. Marine speakers and a metal grill would make it feasible.
      Your box would be a great TV sound bar.
      Love the comments you draw here.

    I did a bookshelf build with these morel Maximos, they play really well, very loud with good frequency response.
    They like lots of power, being 90w rms each. Clean power helps a lot with bass production, these mids can play low!
    Pair them with the correct enclosure and port and you can get some impressive bass, I haven’t tried them sealed however. They can handle 200w rms as a pair if your signal is clean enough.

      No. It'a the angle of the camera. I thought so too at first but you wouldn't see much blur on the left speaker coming straight towards you because it would just vary in size but not position. However the movement of the right speaker baffle is apparent because it's more of a side angle.

    200 mA at 12 Volts DC supply can not generate enough amps for 150 watts RMS, it needs at least 10 Amps DC for RMS and 20 for PMPO in case music reaches peaks. 200 mA is 0.2 Amps and will burn out . The most it can safely supply current for watts is 3 watts DC.

      The amp will only really do 125@1% THD and will be over 30% by 180... But lets be real, unless people turn it all the way up (and sadly that's what most people do and blow their speakers) it will only use around 1-10w max for the average person.
      I just found out recently what I thought was plenty loud was only 1-3 watts from my Chane A1.4's... about 85db in my listening position if you factor in the distance, which puts it slightly louder a lawn mower apparently.

      Super Man friend, I’m studying audio, why the toroidal gives a better sound?

    • @SuperMan-ir2ii
      @SuperMan-ir2ii Před 5 lety +4

      The toroidal is a cleaner power supply and provides a stability of the current, there is less see interference and background noise, the amp saturates much less, the harmonic distortion will be the lower.

    Its a nice build, however, for a how-to video, there really isn't much explanation as to what he is doing. Should also incorporate some time lapse, while slowing down the important parts to explain what he is doing.

    No Port or Passive radiator is included in this build. The low frequency will distort the speakers even at half of the volume. Apart from that I appreciate the effort put on building this. I think there is enough space to add Passive Radiators and some polyfill to damp up the speaker enclosure.

      Hi! Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate your attention to my build. Yes, I was able to add passive radiators or ports, but I did not want to overcomplicate the project too much. The speaker turned out great anyways and it gets really loud and with lots of bass!

      Tekboy 808 I never said sealed enclosures will make the speakers distort. The size of the cabinet matters when making them sealed. For this size of speakers the cabinet is too small, so it's best to use a passive radiators or ports

      Furious DYNAMITE it likely has a transformer to step up the power so it comes with a power brick that says 30 watts but likely the amp takes that and doubles it

    I love you built this from scratch. Not something you see all that much. Awesome job. A couple of technical things I would have done differently though. Just being me. Your mileage may vary. You have no sound damping material inside your cabinet, making your woofers have back wall reflections causing your woofers not to have the best definition they could. As those waves will migrate back to your woofers again causing intermodulation distortion. I realize you are making an infinite baffle design, and a great one to use as it is very friendly to make vs. Bass Reflex or Acoustic Suspension which is highly inefficient. Also your cabinet could be braced better too as that too contributes to the sound quality. The cabinet does not breath or change its shape a bit with all that sound pressure inside when bracing is used. I used to build speakers myself and have been doing audio forever, and love this art allot. Which is why I am glad I saw your video. Please keep making more cool stuff. If I may make a suggestion. Look at making a cool Power Amplifier or Preamplifier for a desktop system or small powered monitors for your desk. You have the wood working skills and you can create audio gear based on even wood cabinetry. See?? I am not about criticizing you no end. I want you to please build more. Nice work. Cheers.

      Good car speakers yes. BUT less than ideal for small sealed enclosures. The Thiele Small parameters are wrong for this application. This means bass rolloff. But probably you can EQ the bass with the control on the amp although then the speaker will very quickly will be reaching excursion limits at medium sound levels.
