Hi everyone! Thanks for tuning in to this project of mine, I hope you'll like it and perhaps try to build it yourself! As always I have included a detailed list of modified plans, a wiring diagram, product links and much more for your information on the build. I encourage you to check my video first before diving in to the build. Let's get started!
The main goal for this project was to build a subwoofer that would play pretty low and would have an integrated amplifier capable of powering two other speakers all cramped inside a relatively compact enclosure. Fiddling around with various woofers in winISD I have decided to go with a Tang Band woofer and a 2.1 amplifier for best results. As you can see by the graph, the enclosure is tuned to 43Hz and has an F3 of around 37Hz which is pretty amazing considering the price of the woofer and the compact enclosure that it needs. Of course it will not play that low cleanly due to port noise and possible chuffing but will still perform great.
As you can see below, I have attached a set of plans, metric and imperial for all needs. You will also find the template for the control panel in the end of the plans which you can print out and glue to a piece of wood to have an accurately made control panel. Feel free to download the plans and the wiring diagram for your personal use. I would love to see how your project turned out!
Note that I have modified the plans therefore the speaker may look different than in the video. I have modified the plans to use less components and be easier to build with an overall better design.
You may have noticed that there are less components in the wiring diagram compared to the video. I did so to reduce the number of the components used and simplify the overall build process of the subwoofer. I have also used a similar amplifier that has the Bluetooth built in so that you don't need a separate module for that. Here you will find the complete list of parts and tools used for the build. Note that the parts can be ordered internationally.
I am more than happy this subwoofer turned out. It packs a punch and is definitely powerful enough for home use. It can also output plenty of power to various different speakers for the best listening experience.
I hope you liked this project and perhaps learned something new! My hopes are that you will give this build a try yourself and post it at the end of the Instructable so that me and others can admire your work! Feel free to post any questions or comments down below, I will try my best to answer them.
Thank you for tuning in to this project of mine and I will see you on the next one!

Ah the Joy of having ALL the right tools ! .... my projects usually end up with me traveling back and forth to the store 37x , lol ... awesome sub man , i had fun watching too and the pay-off demo at the end was the icing on the cake ! Great job !
Haha, thank you so much! To be honest I only own like a few hand tools and a drill. I use a 'tool library' when I'm in need of a table saw or a drill press.
watching you paint the wood was so therapeutic!
Woh Woh. What a beautiful.what.a finishing. Amazing amazing work.congratulations to you sir.
Thank you so much! Truly means a lot.

Holy mackerel Brother. Awesome job, I felt like I was watching how its made. How To...Anyone with all your equipment already knows how to build it. Im looking to do a stand alone but i was going to tart up some old car speaker stuff and using no jigs or fancy equipment. Dont get me wrong I build systems for homes and cars and in order to be productive we build boxes sand edges and cover with material, your build is geared more for master tinker guys. With your skills make a box with old parts and minimal time and public would not get discouraged
Very nice but definitely need to secure the power supply with something stronger than tape
Thank you! I have actually realised that myself after completing the project and have updated the design by placing the power supply on the bottom which you can find on my Instructables post.
Perfect job......
Agree

Yeah..need to screws them.
Very nice subwoofer. Thank for sharing!
Thank you so much!
You should make one too! But use a bit bigger woofer and put it inside so that it won't be damaged
@@justabasslover4404
What do you mean by put it inside!?!? You mean like on the bottom so it's up or down firing!?!?
@@austinsears1637 no in the middle and the magnet is facing in the bass port and the cone is backward and it will give more shocking bass than putting in the outside
@@justabasslover4404Donny shown something cool . He just pointed one direction for beginers . Everybody can decide, what the important : high detailed HI-FI or , simply Hi_Fi or more-more-more high& bass sound. Why need fals, " shocking " bass ? This is a cool stuff to a Pc, or something else with SMALL speaker . I'm also doing it differently, but it is also excellent method. You need extreme, " shocking " bass ? Build a Carson Reflex cabinet. Old school , but the dual 40 cm long stroke subwoofer / cabinet pushes your aura down . :D Or build your method from your own money, not from Donny. " You should make one too.." Nice...
wow... impressive craftsmanship... an attention to detail... gonna have to buy all my boxes from you in the future.
Millwork is nicely done, virtually the same as i would have done.
Try using shellac as a sealer as it will not cause any swelling of particle board or MDF. Just a handy hint.😉
Dry & ready to handle in 10 to 15 minutes or less.
Ado as ydeia
You got some upgrades, nicely built sub👌👌👌
Haha, thanks!

Dude you're good! Very nice work. You've just gained yourself one more subscriber
, very nice work and you have the satisfaction of building it yourself !!!!!!!!!
fantastic job !!!!!!!
Man, that was sick!!!!! Awesome video. I watched from beginning to end. 👌
This was for 95% a joy to watch. Such a treat. Fine design and beautifully crafted. No expenses spared. But in all honesty, I had a hard time swallowing the terrible potmeter knobs that violated the enclosure, especially after turning a blind eye to the cheap banana plugs. Hence the 95%. Compared to the cost of the build it would have been cheep to get some nice knobs and terminals. But thanks for the upload, I really enjoyed it a lot. 👍👍👍
Thank you so much for the honest opinion! I will definitely improve my next build.
Very nice built and nicely made video.
Your speaker's driver is much bigger than your woofer's.
you have a very good taste for asthetics. Good job!
Yes, finally Donny. You precision is does not go unnoticed.
Thank you so much!
Hey to solve your chuffing issues, you can use a slot port in your future builds to reduce port noise by 70%.
All that said, i think its one of the greatest builds iv'e ever seen!!!!.
Delicia de som! Isso sim é qualidade, assim como o bacom é vida, na musica o grave tambem é vida...
Beautiful photography.
Amazing work!!, thanks for share.
Good work , perfect design for small woofer. I maded few DIY projects myself and bigger subwoofers require screws connections otherwise after few months glue and paint will crack for sure.
My subs only made by Glue, will it last long? Please watch my DIY SUB if there anything I've done wrong czcams.com/video/SMLr8pa73qo/video.html

The way you made the box is completely professional....and that's it.
Everything after it is a big no no. Good job with the MDF part though.
The sound very clear, very creative 😲
Finally some great bass with diy speakers
Perfect job 👍👌
But next plz make us hear it more
Damn. I love this diy! I want to make something similar like this, but its very hard to find great subwoofer unit in Lithuania.

I believe people without the same tools can make A BOX using basic tools. This was done by a professional and if you aren’t you shouldn’t expect your outcome to be at his level.
When new video is coming
I'm really addicted to your channel.
Nice work man! The ONLY thing I didn't like was the double stick tape on the power supply.
2 month later and the power supply will fall down of the pcb

How much does it Cost ?
Is your sub woofer available in India ?
Amazing!
I loved you work!! Thanks
Awesome build dude, shows you take pride and care and your damn time making stuff. But look at the result. Cheers dude
Thank you so much! Means a lot.
С удовольствием посмотрел за всем процессом очень хорошая работа
Хотя и динамик не велик, но ход большой
я бы купил у него
20:53 is perfectly edited, amazing work man for both filming and editing and making the sub
Thank you!!
PARABÉNS MANO. VC É O CARA.
Dude thats a very loving job you've done building that Sub but I would've put the power supply on the floor of the unit because heat will over time melt the tape and I suspect the weight of the power supply will cause damage and you grief having to undo your excellent work. And I would use 8 gauge cable for the signal wires to your other speakers.
Its a wonderful thing seeing someone taking pride in their work and sharing the results.
Nice idea, no comments there, but if a person does not have the machines that you use, it is a very different kettle of fish! Letting your local shop cut the wood, will raise the price big time. Then, it, could be, easier to buy a sub ready made!
Really boss this subwoofer amazing i like it
From Bangladesh
Thank you friend!
Awesome work well done love u...
I love the tangband!
Edit: That's a long port! How low is the box tuned? Bracing for the box? Crazy. This build is so good!
Thank you! The box is tuned to 43Hz. The port needs to be around 8 inches long.
@@DonnyTerek Could you use a 100W woofer instead ? Or would the enclosure need to be bigger?
Great build! Clean design. Good engineering. I do recommend using a push stick on the table saw more often and clamping pieces when drilling. Thank you for the great video.
Thank you so much! Truly means a lot!
Damned dude, really nice project! Greetings from JENA / EAST GERMANY
I really appreciate the care taken in the assembly of your project & attention to detail!
You should be proud!👍
Thank you! Means a lot.
Very nice subwoofer👍👍nice work 👌👌
Thank you!!
The distortion figures for TPA3116D are around about 0.2%, which is perfectly acceptable below 100Hz as hearing is less sensitive to distortion there, BUT the IC is only capable of 50W into 4R, which means you need an optimum box size for the driver you are using, otherwise you will get massive amounts of excursion and little actual bass output. In other words you cannot use a small box with such an underpowered amplifier.
Is your box size calculated on the Thiele Small Parameters for optimum ported?
Does it shake the room?
I m your FAN.......thnX for NO background music SIR
Beautiful what a finishing
Does this amplifier board makes that thudding soung on power on/off?
No, it works flawless!
Nice cabin but you can use chrome plate for pots
this is really satisfying
One of the rare builds on YT I actually like. Kudos.
TIPS: Add some Sonofil (or something similar) in the box. It will "increase" the box size and make the woofer play a bit lower and softer(but not muddy).
Additionally, it also helps with standing wave dissipation and tends to help with some potential port noise.
Also, make sure that the intake of the port (one inside the box) has at least the diameter of the port of distance between the wall facing the port input. That greatly reduces port noise(if you have any). So, if your port diameter is 8 cm, make sure that the intake is at least 8 cm away from the box wall facing the port input.
Thank you so much! Truly means a lot.
Those are some great tips of you! Thanks!
Now i know why speaker set is expensive. That's alot job
*a lot of work. Yes it is
You did a lot of work here but there is a lot going on that is not so great.
Maybe you could watch some threads on audio forums.
Not trying to be an a-hole, but seeing a lot of work and a not so great outcome.
Things that could be better is the diameter of the port and internal placement, it is too close to a wall and the air velocity is too high.
You should always place the amplifier and power source on the bottom and mounted with screws.
It also looks like you pushed the power cable socket in without an adhesive.
It is so close to being really good, just for a few details. I do hope you will continue because you have talent enough 👍
Excellent craftsmanship
Thank you! 🙏
Sakin sakin yaptınız ben de sabırla izledim ama çok güzel yaptınız. 10 puan verdin sana
Dam! That sounds Great!
Thanks!
First DIY that make normal sounding speaker :D
Haha, thanks!
i can give you five stars if you paint that knob panel with glossy black paint and name that knobs. well done bro. best subwoofer i ever saw
I'm your big fan
why step down to 12 volts when the amp calls for 24v? and why use a special power supply like that when 12v is so common and could be in line with the power cord and not mounted inside?
@Ashvith Shetty very sorry to trigger. just here asking questions. Do it right next time ;)
Ashvith Shetty - What? Triggered? Goodness gracious...
Great job, I liked it, but the control panel could have been nicer.
Just print the labels and stick it on.
Thank you!
Excellent video . You did a fine job there , enjoy !
Thank you!!
Una obra de arte compañero..... felicidades
nice work and (without the cheap knobs) good looking if u like the design (me personally not) just one tip from me
the life begins with inch 18 xD
The box is very nice!
But the electronics are.... well maybe its just me but I would never use those SMD and switching mode shits.
Why would I use SMD if I have enough space for THT?
I will never understand.
It is a CRAP build from start to finish
Kenn Mossman - you’re certainly a nice guy, aren’t you?
Un gran trabajo, tanto en detalles como en acabados.
Very neat work
Why did you not just buy a 12v supply in the first place?
Even better, the amplifier is rated 12-24v!
Honestly that's just asking for trouble using double sided sticky tape to stick the power supply to the roof of the sub.... But non the less very good job and nice build my friend, keep up the good work
nice project!! love your wire tool :-)
Keep going man great work
Thank you! I sure will!
How will it handle this song - Miss K8 & MC Nolz - Raiders of Rampage?
good work but why bluetooth? you ruined it at the end
You must have been playing WOW or shitting into a tin bucket when he showed the 3.5mm input.
Greats job, congratulations. Regards from Brazil.
Wow.. Nice work man 🙏👍
iam not sure if the powe supply will survive the pressure and vibrations in the subwoofer for long. hope the best for you. nice project.
FlowwUP how much it cost
Got thesame worry.
Max spl will be 81db 😂😂😂
You should build one using a bigger subwoofer driver.
this box is too small for biger drive
@@MikeleKonstantyFiedorowiczIV What I meant was make the same style with a larger driver . Of course the cabinet will have to be larger.
@@justins.1283 I think the best type of subwoofer is the one directed down the floor, each other is a waste of energy that we will not feel, sometimes it is better to buy a weaker but directed at the floor than a stronger one directed to the side.
Thank you man we need it
Saudações Do Brasil belo trabalho otimo 👍👍👍
20:54 and then my sub kicks in :D
Step 1: Buy a wood shop.
Exactly! It is all easily done, IF you own a complete woodworkshop! If you don't buy a ready to assemble kit, many of them around, with good components! Nice idea, but not realistic!
😂
@@peter_aka_hamamass You can build this sub with very little tools actually.
A drill , ( even a hand turned non powered one will do ) a good hand saw ,
and perhaps a electric jig saw . It would just take more time and care.
It`s how most things were made years ago. Some of us have forgotten , but many never knew in the first place.
@@harryme472 could u help me with what I need to make such a box without having that much expensive stuff as in the video?
Beautiful handmade!
Thank you!!

О привет)
Another sweet build.
If ever you get the chance though,,, change those toy knobs to something a bit more respectable. Those things are a disrespect to your work.
Thank you!
I have to agree on the amplifier knobs, but they were what I had on hand 😁
@@DonnyTerek All good , you did a great job. I do agree with Struggling Paradox though , your work standard is above the look of those. I often collect quality knobs from old broken down vintage audio components .
Good work. Sound quality very good
I love the bluetooth isolated module where did you get it? You don't link it on instruct. or in descript. ! rawrr
dumpster fire of wiring techniques. Not tinning wires and so many others, but my favorite is putting solder on the through holes for a power or speaker wire and then surface mounting them. The through holes are there for a reason.
a sub inst meant to be heard. it's to feel the base!
Man thats so stupid.....
wardope *bass
That's sub bass which is under 20hz, it's impossible to have a woofer playing at let's say 50hz without being able to hear it. (If it's rated for 50hz that is)
Also this system can't give you those low frequencies that are supposed to be felt as both the box and the driver are way to small.
@@b.kaan75 Actually, he's correct. Hence the name "Subwoofer".
Inmaculate job.
Wow !
Magnifique! Belle démonstration concret de diy. gg
