    Almost two decades later and no further investigations, you cannot help feeling bad for Cronje, He was made into a scapegoat, and BCCI obviously covered Cronje's ties with Indian players, who introduced him to booking mafia.

      BCCI still punished its players and handed them lengthy bans. So did PCB. ACB and the other countries just gave slaps on the wrist

    Book makers were not behind bars because betting was never considered a crime . Fixing was also not a crime. Why it was not a crime is a subject of debate, but it is a fact that betting and fixing were never considered criminal offence. If it were, no one would be engaged in fixing.

    The majority of match fixing probably took place during dead rubber test matches, meaningless boring one day matches.
    While I am not condoningatch fixing, considering at the time the modest wages, there are players earned the volume of matches. It was inevitable. While it was wrong players took the risk to earn a decent wage.
    The boards will never take responsibility for this

    Oh look, what's the harm in advising bookies of your intention to bowl or bat first if winning the toss, or what bowler you will bowl first? It's not as though they'll have a different affect on the match than they would if you didn't tell a bookie.
    Now deliberately getting out so your team loses is bad because that does affect the match.
    Also, what's the harm in paying a pitch curator to prepare a pitch that will deteriorate quickly and force an early result, the two teams still have equal opportunity to win and we still get entertained. Probably more entertained than if the pitch was prepared not to deteriorate and the match resulted in a draw.

      Maxfixing was not a crime. It was not a criminal offence. Its being going on since 1970s. And who are we or anyone else to decide morals? To each one his own. First, if the cricketing bodies believed that maxfixing has to be considered a legal crime , then they should have appealed for creation of a clearly defined law first and then should have taken action on cricketers. Example: in taxation , there are clear laws which makes a citizen clear about what is permissible and what is not permissible. It is clear what tax saving tools are intended and permissible, not intented but permissible, not intended and not permissible. Therefore those to evade it do it with clear knowledge that they are commiting a crime in the eyes of law.Cricketers are artists abd spirtsmen , who are so supremely talented that the country takes pride in having them representing the nation. Cricketers are not in defence or politics or in govt service whose immediate goal is the serve./..protect their nation . And, only after 2003 cricketing board realised that they were not paying enough money to tge cricketers in return of the sacrifices and occupational hazards which they had to face ( like injuries, staying away from children and families, taking tremebdous mental pressure of media and public. They are humans , they are not Gods They may get swayed for money at times particularly when they akready know that they are not commiting a legal crime.

      @@riyazahmed208 exactly, it's not as though the cricketers have raped and murdered. Like you say, it's not a criminal offence, more a moral and ethical decision in which the people involved make by themselves, for themselves.
      Then some journalists decide they'll try and bust things wide open in an attempt for public attention, look at me, look at me, see what I've uncovered, when they should stick to their own business.
      My reference to deliberately getting out being bad was just meant as being bad for teammates who wanted to win, not police.
      I wonder how the journalists even found the fixers? I sure as hell would like to have a sure thing large bet and make good money!

    • @riyazahmed208
      @riyazahmed208 Před 3 lety +2

      @@milkshakemuncher Absolutely. When there is no legal clause , every opinion becomes subjective. And I wonder why CBI was given the probe? CBI is appointed to investigate a criminal activity, not a non criminal activity. This is high level politics.

      I agree. Under performing or doing something in a game that alters the result is wrong and should be punished. Even not playing or giving 100% in a game is wrong. Yet giving pitch information or other information to bookies or other people shouldn’t be punished. That’s not going to affect the result or make a player perform any less. I think that a huge problem is gambling being illegal in India. If gambling was legal there it would eradicate most of the problems. All the bookies making the approaches to players are Indian. That’s because it’s illegal there. You don’t hear of English, Australian, South African etc bookies approaching players because gambling is legal in those countries.

    That last game that had the two innings forfeited between South Africa and England was called a great idea at the time. I still think it was. We got a game, an exciting game and a pretty good one. I never blame Cronje for that. He did well in doing what he did I think.

    Most matches in cricket are controlled. As long as ICC headquarters resides in Dubai, match fixing can't be changed. ICC should move their head quarters to America since all the international players will be legally bound to held accountable for corruption. In America, bringing charges/convictions is much easier than Dubai. Also, these organized-crime mafia is very powerful and control players through money or fear so dont loose your money by betting. England is known for scams and corruption and they are the mastermind behind online betting websites which are banned in America.
