  • It's been a whirlwind three or so months for Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo, a three months which has rightfully resulted in him getting called up to the national team. The March international break is usually one used to figure out a squads best fringe players - but Mainoo is far better than that - Adam Monk explains why...

Foden on the left will be good but won't be as good as we expect, he's best on the right with freedom to roam like Palmer so manage expectations.
On the other hand, the box midfield should be done with Kane dropping and let Jude time his runs in behind like for Madrid with another runner like Saka (copying somewhat vinicius and Son) Expectations need to be settled, we have some overpowered positions (RB, CAM, RW and ST) and some slightly below standard positions like 2nd CB, LB (injuries) and not an out and out LW
And quick reminder, Rice is best as an 8 with Jorginho behind than him as a 6, will be interesting to see how we work that out vs Germany, Spain and ball dominant teams

Why Southgate won’t do what you suggested:
He wants to protect against the counter-attack, which is how most goals are conceded in international football. (And how City concede a lot of goals in that system)
Walker has more pace than Stones (and less anticipation), so it makes more sense for him to get forward instead, as he can recover quicker and stop a counter.
Colwill would make sense, but you’ve then got a problem creating width on the left against sides you’re trying to break down. He makes sense in the tougher games though, against the likes of Ousmane dembele.
Great vid nonetheless. I think Mainoo lacks the England experience to start yet, but after a few friendlies? We’ll see.
