- On this week's episode of The Breakdown, brought to you by Sky Bet, we took a close look at Manchester United’s latest emerging star, Kobbie Mainoo and how he could potentially be the answer to their midfield problems.
Do you think he should be a mainstay in the Manchester United starting XI for years to come or do you think the club should be managing his minutes as carefully as they are doing to ensure he can breakthrough when it suits him best?

All of Mainoo's performances have made him deserving of future starts, he's currently the embodiment of "good enough, old enough", so managing his time is purely psychological and/or physical if he needs it.
Mainoo for sure needs to be managed carefully but his quality on the ball and composure in midfield in such an intense/physical league is so impressive that won’t be long before he’s the first name on the team sheet.
"Managed carefully" why? If he's ready, he's ready. Was Bellingham "managed carefully"? Saka?
@@michael43567 yes Bellingham was managed carefully playing in a low quality league in the championship, away from the media and spotlight. Saka was used carefully, in fact his early days as an Arsenal players saw him being used as a LB, a positions that is somewhat less critical to the team. So yes they were.
@@Tdoggg very good examples. Agreed. And because they took care of them now look them. They are beasts.
this aged magnificently
Yeah 😂@@michael43567
I find it very concering what the English media and Social Media are once again doing to a young player in the way he is hyped up. Yes, he's obviously been impressive and seems massively talented, but he has started 4 PL-Games. Just let the boy enjoy his football!
He's not there yet but the English are so quick to hype up the youngsters too much. Even more so when the player comes from United.
Yeah, he's young, has good ball control and passing. But oftentimes I see games are passing him by, especially against quick midfielders, as he lacks the pace and aggression.
Not quite ready for the pace of the PL in my opinion. Playing alongside the low IQ players at United doesn't his help cause.
@@fndjufri Still think this?
@@limericklad2000 Yes, I do. You have a problem with someone else's opinion?
@@fndjufri nope, everyone is entitled to one. You just have a whole extra month of superb performances from him to base that opinion on now, so I was wondering if you might have changed it. Games are most certainly not passing him by. I don't see him as lacking pace or aggression and I don't think many others do either. He certainly doesn't look "off the pace" of the PL like you intimated, if anything it's the opposite. But hey, we see what we see.
As a Man U fan the best talent I have seen in a while
As a fan you should know to never use "Man U". Search on google, Never call United Man U.
There is someone called Mason Gunwood (Greenwood)
Agreed - he's consistently good
Serious player.. United have got themselves a class act too
I love this kid, he looks the real deal and hopefully he stays humble and produces for United for many, many, many years to come!
Great video, back when we was talking about this kid people thought we were crazy ...Carrington cooking saved the club from another 100mill in that midfield ... genuinely top top player the potential, intelligence just top
I think it has taken me a decade or so to say this but I believe I have found my favourite United player… I really love his simplistic approach and calmness to the game. It really fits my ideal footballer profile. I cant wait to see him get better.
Kobbie Mainoo is Sharp always on the charge to fight for the ball every time he gets, get rid of the rest on the squad & bring more in just like him then u will start to see UTD looking like Real UTD how use to be in the Golden days of Sir Alex, we need more young Local tallent like this for sure, NEVER GET RID & Coach him tot he Highest level going. Pure Class
Agreed. Future should be built around him & Garnacho. Would also like to see Amad given a chance
Leave the lad alone to play his game.. hes a humble guy still learning, just dumps a load more needless pressure on him
Unneeded pressure? Why because someone made a video about a couple of things hes good at and asks IF he should be a mainstay in the man u team? If thats causing pressure then he has no chance as a pro footballer. Theres no hype in this video, its purely observational
Oh man a 4 minute video on the overlap will surely hinder a pro footballers development
It's not just this video. There is loads of them out there. The papers the critics on tv it's everywhere. Where have you guys been hiding?
@@ShootingsBootings they're everywhere man
This is the buggest club in England, there will be pressure regardless. Stop crying
Shame the timing of the euros. If he had a couple of seasons under his belt he might have been well placed to be considered as an option for the midfield to support Declan rice. Could really do with it given Henderson is a bit older and not playing in a competitive league and kalvin Phillips is not getting any game time. He’s been captaining the England under 19s, but obviously a big step up
You can see he has the talent already. He's a fantastic player.
YES he is going to be fantastic for the next 15 years.
Yeah, when he leaves manure 😂😂😂
He is a impressive young player and I believe will be great
H going up in the world!! Great vid 👏🏾
This is why the United shirt is the heaviest to wear in the EPL. No other team is covered or scrutinized like this.
Numbers like duel win rate is based on a small sample size at the moment, they're worthless talking points. What really stands out is his temperament and composure, very calm on the ball and always seem to find a way out of tight situations. However I disagree with over-analysing the Everton goal. He didn't exactly plan to create space for Lindelof, he was just trying to progress the ball forward. What unfold after his actions was simply a natural direct result of his qualities on the ball.
The best thing ETH has done so far is give Kobbie a chance but Kobbie can go to a new level under a world class manager or even just a good manager with clear principles that wants to play football.
Manioo has the protentional to be both a Mediano and a Regista, a destroyer breaking up play and a deep lying playmaker. Those don't get around to often, even Pirlo and Gattuso had to team up in Milan and the national team. He has the ability to be a second coming of Veratti.
Every single able bodied 4 year old has the potential to win Balon D'or..
Stop talking nonsense, African expert
Have you got a dodgy stick to see the euro leagues
Yep! I said the same thing, best comparison to make is Veratti.
We can't afford to drop him just to manage him. Obviously can't play him every game, he's just a kid, but he should be in the stsrting 11 for most games.
Considering we're out of most tournaments and playing 1 game a week, this shouldn't be too much for him.
If you're good enough, you're old enough.
Maybe this is the start of Hag's Hawks. The fact he has a solid youth team setup, why not get them involved. Garnacho, Mainoo and Shoretire etc
He's not phased by anything. Should be a starter all the time now.
years to come? lets just get through this season... and yes he should play, he's good enough.
Lets just give the guy some breathing space, not rely on him rather help him develop
You rarely see youth players with the composure and intelligence he has in midfield, will learn so much from bruno, eriksen and case as well, things looking bright. Can't believe he's only 18 as well.
Imagine if Garner was managed the same by EtH. Wudnt have had to overspend on Amrabat, Casemiro etc.
Crazy that he wasn't given a chance after his loan spell
Yes he’s that good. I just hope people will keep his age in mind when he ultimately falls off and gets a form dip as all young players do.
He’s magnificent.
Mainstay, if you’re old enough you’re good enough and we play better when he’s in the team it’s simple as that
*correction* Kobbie started the game against Charlton, being replaced by Casemiro around the 65min mark.
I was at the game and the Bishops Blaize went a bit mental when we learnt he was in the starting lineup
Background track goes hard.
Wasn't Kobbie taller than Garnacho that was shown in your video?
While Garnacho is 5'11 it is absolutely impossoble for Kobbie to be only 5'7, right?
His wkik says 5'9 he's deffo not 5'7 could be taller than 5'9.
@@Coopdegras
FIFACM said 6',
Wikisoccer said 6',
Sofascore said 6'.
🤷
He's 6ft now
In no universe is Garancho 5'11 come on man I don't care what Wikipedia says. Rashford himself is 5'11 yet towers over him. 😂
@@TheIceMurder2 he is 5ft11 what are you on about
He seems great so far but it's so soon to heap all this pressure on him
It is, but we are Man United, if youre to make it here, you have to embrace the pressure
He dealt with Anfield & St James Park. He can deal with the pressure.
Is it bollocks, you’re just scared
@PullThatUpJamie 🤣🤣🤣 yeah mate I'm so scared lmao. Of youtube comments which make zero sense like yours
He did well against Liverpool despite getting booked early.
Adnan Januzai had 6 good games once and he went on to be world beater 🙄
so what’s your point? this video is just telling people his background and what type of player he is, not saying he’s guarenteed to be a world beater 🙄
People are desperate to find the next young star, the hype is so premature in this case. Just calm down and let him learn and improve.
I think alongside Casemiro that midfield would be class. When asked to play alongside an average player like Mctominney, then I think you're asking too much from the lad
Casemiro has been rubbish when fit this season and McTominay has been United’s best player this season. Another online clueless fan
@bg7393 casemiro has been left to marshall the midfield on his own. He's not superman. That why having McTominay in the team is only good for getting the odd goal gives nothing else
Thanks
Bun Foden, this is the new Stockport Iniesta
You can improve pace with running style. Ronaldo had specific training to run as fast as possible back in 2005.
You either have pace or you don’t. Everything can be worked on obviously but you can not train raw pace.
@@am32ireland Well what happens if his legs grow longer?
@@fplgregfrost my grandfather waited 70 years for that to happen. Funny thing was, they actually shrunk.
@@am32ireland haha. I'm just saying he could grow a bit yet. McTominay suddenly became 6ft 4" one season!
This kid is diamond. Potential level= Rodri
Technically better than him
Seedorf level
He’s played like 6 games and now he’s the next rodri?😂😂😂😂 you United fans are so delusional it’s actually impressive
@@dylanmulroe9978i already knew from pre season this kid is special…you can hate all you want you’re just jealous
@@dylanmulroe9978 I've been watching him for years and he can go right to the top, there is a reason why City have tried to sign him numerous times, I actually think for the sake of his career and reaching his full potential he would be better off leaving us. All we have done for the last 10 years is wreck players and their reputations.
Wanna see him play alongside casimero
This is one of reasons why some of the young, high-potential players fail. Hyping the players too much, just add unnecessary pressure on these young players. Let the youngsters enjoy the game..
Reminds me of a young Paul Ince, he's going to be a right player
He ain't 5'7 bro lol. You've done him dirty there. He's 5'9 or 5'10.
As every other midfielder at United Mainoo lacks pace. Uniteds inability to press and constantly being overrun in the midfield are concerning.
Unfortunately just shining light in a dark tunnel .. let's see him in a good team
He’s been playing well and deserves his place, until he stops doing that why replace him
Pretty sure hes closer to 5 foot 9 inches, i think they used his youth stats from a fewy years back
ETH in 🔰📈
Someone please explain what this player has done to be hyped up already?
He looks very good but he's also very very slow. Opposition players fly by him and he misses a lot of tackles. I'm not convinced yet about his off the ball play.
There is no chance he us 5'7.
He is atleast 5'11, he was standing with garnacho and he was the same height.
Wiki says 5'9, tbh, theres not that much between 5'9 and 5'11 really, and lets be honest, he could still be growing at 18, so probably an old stat anyway. I was still growing until 20/21
He had Rice on lockdown during the preseason game against Arsenal. Yes, it was preseason but he showed a lot of quality in the games he played. Word around the club is that United weren't going to sign Amrabat because Mainoo was looking like a first team prospect but then he got injured.
United have been badly affected by injuries this season and haven't been able to play a first choice back four, never mind a first choice 11, once. Put Mainoo and Martinez in the team together though and you'll see a very different side, with a player comfortable playing out and splitting the lines in Martinez and a player comfortable dropping deep to get the ball with great spatial awareness in Mainoo.
He's ready now. I don't like the "manage him" narrative. Was Bellingham "managed"? Was Saka "managed"
I want to think him for the free tickets for the home game v Fulham In February
We should not overplay him. Give him time, let him develop, and nurture him physically and intellectually. Hopefully he will be our Bryan Robson one day.
Apsolutely
Will somebody seriously make this stop 🤣 lads played 3 first team games. I am a united fan and this is already getting ridiculous. Been down this road plenty of times and either leads to A burn out or B players with giant egos. Just let the lad take each game as it comes already under enough unnecessary pressure with the current state of the club and the constant anti united press. Not picking holes in his game either but he seems to have a lack of pace at this level aswell especially for a young lad.
Can't say man. Overlap!
Go ahead hype the kid up and watch
Should go to Euros, IMO
Negativity is disgusting..! This kid should be left alone.. he’s been brilliant through the youth.! Just let the lad find his way for God sake
We really can't help ourselves can we when it comes to a good kid coming through? Leave the lad alone to develop without chucking shitloads of pressure and hype on him
Mainoo is atleast 6ft. He looks as tall as Amrabat or Martial
He is 6ft
To be honest you got Kobbie Mainoo height absolutely wrong mate. I have watch him standing side to side with Ten Hag and they were in the same height and Ten Hag is 6 footer
ETH is 5'10
@@michael43567
Google search wouldn't lie, right?
Spend your time more on google search before replying to someone comment.
Mainoo is a great talent. However this video is massively over edited 😵💫
Just my opinion based on what I’ve seen from him, potentially a future captain, I love his attitude his no nonsense combativeness, never looks out of his depth I wish him all the very best and hope he proves me right.
Say what you want about MUFC but you have to appreciate their academy
Mainoo is the first real baller to come through in years, garnacho was raised in athletico academy so he doesnt count,he played 1 season in our academy, rashford was the last and hes massivley over rated
Greenwood ring a bell?
@@daleward4260 say what you want about Mason greenwood the person but you have to appreciate the footballer - hence you have to appreciate the academy.
Guys the kid is raw as anything let him settle in before ruining him with hype. He’s done absolutely nothing in the game yet
that's the thing he's not raw he looks the most composed player on the pitch at 18
@@bobnab1570being the most composed player at United right now wouldn’t take much. And he’s had a handful of games, one being Galatasaray where he was caught out and lost a 2 goal lead. He has potential, but it’s only potential right now
@@bobnab1570he showed some of that composure again today for Kudus’ goal 😅
ok smart arse@@bg7393
Lol kobie is 5`9 not 5`7 quite a big difference
Good on the ball, very composed but has no legs. Maguire is probably quicker than him.
Scholes wasn't fast either was was modic or xavi ect those are proper midfielders
Great player, pace is gonna let him down though
People said the same about Scholes…
You don't need much pace to play in the midfield tho.
(And if Man Utd becomes a more possession oriented team, then his pace would be even less of an issue)
Gundo, Kroos, Modric, Xavi, Thiago, Verratti, Busquets, Rodri.....none of these great midfield technicians of the last decade are known for their pace.
Youve obviously not watched enough of him pal....he aint slow
@@athreyathandeswaran7510today's football is all about pace and power, that's all these fans look at, yes pace is important but you can make up for it if your other qualities are top class
@Adam-cl6tp clearly haven't seen the fella running back to his own goal from the halfway line , he can't keep up with the other team
Wayne Rooney was playing for England at 17 why ? Because he was good enough !
Play them when young not old.
Where'd you get 5'7 from? When he was 14? 😂
Too much pressure on him already
Just leave the lad alone. Let him enjoy himself.
Go support Inverness if you don't want your players having pressure on them
@@michael43567 do you not think this is a problem?? Everyone saying he is like someone and then putting massive pressure on them. Prime example Wayne Rooney. Started his career at 16 but didn't last no where near as long as players that stared their career at 20 21. And I love how everyone say it's united fans that are hyping them up when it's the media and morons on the commentators.
@@rf6497 it's not a problem. We're the biggest club in England, there will be a lot of pressure. It's futile to complain about the pressure. Like I said, got support Inverness Caledonian if you don't want pressure on your players
If your good enough then you play
Leave the kid alone. United on a mission to destroy careers even before they've begun.
Heis not 5ft 7 lol
He’s definitely not 5’7 tall . At least 5’9
What is this 😂
Lewis Miley is twice the player and younger but doesn’t get highlighted or spoken about like this guy? Is it because it’s Nev’s old club?
Obviously mate
Or maybe cos Mainoo is a better prospect than Miley?
It’s probably the fact they play totally different positions
"Miley" can't lace Mainoo's boots
Miley is just the next Longstaff, if you’ve got a braincell you’ll know that. Mainoo is a different type of player on a different level. Controlling games and showing immense composure. Miley is sat between Bruno and Joelinton holding on to their pockets for 90mins. Mainoo looks like the best player on the pitch every time you watch him.
Anything Man Utd brings the clicks.
Kobbie Mainoo
If Mainoo wants to succeed he's better off moving to another club man united is too toxic and tends to kill careers before they begin
Look what happened to Rashford his talent was pushed out of him , more intrest in charity either play football or look after the worlds problems you have proved you cannot do both
No, he's just not consistent. Saka was played as much as he is yet has been consistent
Should start but with a rest now and then. Don't overuse a young player
Like Bellingham is being overused???
Overhyping some random kid 😅 you’re the same people to judge him when he flops..
Wasted $ on Mount..
Just watched 10 mins of him in this shocker of a performance against West Ham, not happening. 👎🏻. There is not one Man Utd player that has turned up. Rashford coming on. , looks like he’s lost his dog ,wandering about looking uninterested. What the hell Ten Hagg is seeing is beyond me, when he says they have been unlucky. This has gone on for years now, some sort of virus in Man U dressing room. Hope they get relegated and have total clear out.
pretty sure he ain't 5''7
Casamerio and maninoo, this manage his minutes bollocks just play him
he is not 5'7
Swear mainoo is 5'9
Lewis Miley is way better

Look at you hating on a young prodigy. Credit where credit is due that's all.
That’s cap if he played for Brighton he would already have a 200m price tag
He’d probably be playing even better if played for Brighton 😂 The lads a 💎
