I started slow and instead of getting faster, I just went even slower 😂😂😂
Yeah true... Been there 😂😅
As long as u keep going who cares how slow you get 😊
@@timmafee0The sweeper bus cares
🤣🤣🤣
Yup 😂
I don't even think I can walk 42km straight, let alone run it 😂
You probably can, nothing hard in walking 42km, it is just long.
Running it is easier than walking it
You can, its just long time. And you need water, energy food, slower rhytm in the process
@@senseidefault3043true! Running long distances is always easier than walking them! I have much admiration for people who do 10 miles walks instead of jogging/running it. No freaking way I want to walk anything more than 3 😁😁😁
This is so true. Having even splits is helpful. Also starting off well is critical. A lot of times it’s not until mile 3-4 where you start to feel “in gear”. There’s def a break in period so the first few miles you feel fresh BUT sometimes you’re not as loose
At 5:41 you Will run a marathon in 4:03/4:04. Thats because when you zigzag to take hidratation you run more than 42,2 km. Usually between 42,6 and 43 km.
Exactly…… you need to pace based on 27 miles.
Well a sub 4h marathon won't get you the winning prize, it will most likely be a Personal Best, so it doesn't really matter, your watch will get the PB and same on Strava, also it will take almost 2min depending on the crowd to really start the race 😅
Start strong, finish stronger
I did this for half marathon. It's a mental game. I ran exactly 5:41 and on the last km I was panicking because I looked at the time remaining and it shows that I had enough time as per the pace but with seconds to spare.
When I crossed the line it was exactly on 5:41. I felt like I was going to miss the deadline target. My only advice to anybody is that if your watch tells you you are on target trust that you are on target despite your mind telling you that you are going to be late.
Yes, and If at the last few you still are feeling "fresh" kick a bit more till the finish. If you trained well and full well during the race you can finish in great conditions.
I ran my first 1/2 marathon with a pacer and no watch, goal was 2 hours ended up 1:53😊🏃♂️👍
Years later im down to 1:41 at 56 years old and 3:57 for my marathon
Pretty even splits on both
@@barefootbeachrunner9498 nice one. I did my Pb on marathon last week. 4:43. My goal is to get 4hr marathon in my life at some point. How did you feel after a 3:57? That to me is outstanding 👍
@Michael Henry
3:57 Was tough but I was training up to 150km a week at that stage so I recovered really well
Within a few days I was back out doing some short recovery runs
The watch isn’t accurate. The course is measured from the shortest possible distance. Your watch is based on your journey.
It doesnt make sense to start off fast anyways because itll be so crowded for the first 1-3/4km you'll waste energy cutting in and out of the crowd
26.2 miles
My first and only Marathon Ive ran so far I was going for sub 4 hrs. I was doing really good until mile 23 and that last 3 miles was excruciating! Ended up slowing way down and finished at 4:15
Well if you only suffered the last 3 miles at that speed you did very well..
Everything is on track until you hit the wall. Usually comes anytime from mile 18 onwards
For me , the most important miles are the first 2. Set the pace and tone for the rest of the race.
all good in theory. rarely works that way in practice
Or maybe it didn't because you were too fast even with "conservative" pacing. I did mine with 1h40 first half and 1h35 second (was a bit too conservative on first half probably) and it felt very good until the 39th
Famous last words. 😂
Few weeks back I was able to hold 5:30 km pace for the whole marathon. Happy with that although I planned to speed up in the end, but that was impossible.
I swear if I start slow I for some reason cannot finish faster. I HAVE to start fast and gradually get slower over time.
Agreed
Start slower then when you're warmed up and in a rhythm speed it up
It takes a bit of practice, but negative splits can be very effective!
Cheers
Did a half marathon one time with the family. no traning got 2:12 but i cpuld bot walk when o finished
I'm focusing my training on maintaining consistent pace for the majority of my run. My biggest issue is that my pace ends up all over the place, so conditioning myself to run evenly is hard work but will be worth it.
This is me in bed. I come out with a bang, but man...can't hold it together at the end. 😂
We really needed to know that buddy
I had my longest long run ever on my Garmin plan yesterday. The easy range is pretty broad and I negative split it while staying almost within range except for the last k. My negative splits almost always felt great, but I am wondering about how applicable it is to the half as I expect the unexpected.
I feel fine running my first one except for those last three or four miles. Did it in 3:56 now I want sub 3 !
I was planning on finishing at 3:45 for my first but man i slowed down to like a walking pace at the last 3-4 miles and finished at 4:15. I want to try again
@johnnymember try again my man. Finishing one is awesome, now go again!
Facts
True
Ive always felt that the first 5ks of my runs i need to get into it/into my body so i run faster the further i go
Same here. I usually hate my life for the first few miles and I go slower on purpose.
Then I pick up speed
If it feels easy, you’re going too fast
Huh that makes no sense
That only makes sense if you meant finishing the marathon easily but that would mean you were too slow and going fast early that doesn't feel easy so you make absolutely no sense
First marathon; my goal pace was 5:40 km/min… I got carried away and started with 3:50 km/h and crashed after 22km lol
Still finished but not within my goal time
In London Marathon out of ALL elites only Kelvin Kiptum had a negativ split so professionals don't really do it either :). But it probably feels brilliant if you can.
I did my first marathon in Frankfort last year in 3:22.54 in a negative split of about 2 minutes. If you go out at a comfortable pace for the first half it's amazing the confidence and feeling you get when you start passing all those people who went out too quickly at the start.
I get out of breath on an elevator, nevermind walking 42km, let alone running
That can be changed
What about mo farah. He started fast and then slow in mid and then fast again in last 😅.
I can do a marathon, but I really can't run for 4 hours straight
Great advice. Also you get a bit of an ego boost as you pass all the runners who slow during race as you speed up.
zone 1 marathon pace 10 the best strategy 😂
My last 2 marathons Ive elected to go with the events "official pace group" to get my target time. At 2 unrelated events. With different pacers. both times the pacers have run the first 5-8km WAY faster than target time and shelled people out the back! Destroying peoples races in the process. 🙄 If anyone is running a marathon and feels they can do the required pace. Ignore the idiots with the flags or baloons and trust your watch!
run your own race.. pros can probably do better .. but most of us aren't pros
Negative splits all day!!!
that’s what I do
I was a sprinter when I was younger. Everything over 200m already felt like a marathon to me. I've never run a marathon, 10k max. But I always started so slow that I could sprint the final 400m. Probably not the best strategy either.
🙋🏻♂️start slow ,,finish fast
Wym it never goes to plan? I ran 1 marathon and it went exactly to plan? I ran 3:28
Because routes are different.
@@kipponi i’ve ran 3 now, they all pretty much went according to plan
26.2
Ahhh blood dahhhmund
Me after running for 3 weeks. Yeah I can't ever start fast. My body awakes after a while and the miles get easier as I go
Start a little bit slower and finish faster.
This is something I can put to work in bed😂
Fast out of the gate could be called the lickety split. I'll.. see myself out.
I completed a 5km in 25 minutes
School marathon
I dont understand why so many runners train for marathons. It wrecks your body. Why not train for a 5k, 10k or even half marathon? There is an endless amount of training you can do for those distances, increasing the difficulty as you improve your time.
The research consistently shows that negative splits are not the fastest way to pace an endurance event. Even splits are, but those who aimed for a given time and got closest to, or beat those times are those who slowed slightly over the course of the race. On the whole, you can't make up for a slow start.
Just stick to the 5k 😅
Ran 1:54/2:05 split for my first marathon (NYC @ Age 45) 90 days training.
I can’t even run 5:41 for a 5k. 😮
Did it in 3:59:58 on first try back in 2017 🎉
I’d rather start very slow and let my body adjust and get in rhythm. Starting fast is just going to burn you out
*26.2 miles
5:41 / km is too slow, because you normally run more than 42.2 km during a marathon
Interesting that anyone can advise people on subjects they barely know.
Seems impossible for 5 ft people like me
Weing
Sorry, hard to negative split a marathon. If you start out slow you will end up slower at the end anyways. Most professional runners can’t negative split the marathon. Might as well run a 5:20km pace for the first 32km than run 5:50 the last 10 km to still get under 4 hours goal. I tried many times to negative split but failed.
Naaaahn minutes oh naaahn per maahl
i ran my hm slower at the start and finish walking😂 evidence on my channel.
Haha I think it’s silly folks run marathons like the 400m that was my strategy lol
Or simply dont start at all.
A marathon is 26.2 miles not 26.1.
the problem is, even when you run the shit out of yourself on the starting grid, someones slow pace smoked your fast pace. disheartening is a massive understatement. now how would it feel if you start at your slow pace
Not sure if anyone noticed, but his speech patterns and inflection is incredibly similar to Tom Scott
22 years ago I run fast marathon where I I pace me 3.14 min/km with casio watch without gps 🤣🤣🤣 and no carbon plate super shoes!!
U dont need all those stuff to run fast! 🤣
Did you also take out your protractor and slide ruler?
@@electrodynamicorb6548 lol🤣 I dont need that stuff am only use my brain .. less equipment to keep track of
@@Team.L did you have a 60lb alice pack or are you weak
@@rickrollins6640 only good juice
Lol... You don't even need shoes to run, you know that? But they really help to ease the run and save your legs in the long term.
Sub 4 is shit.
