Treat yourself or find the perfect gift for your favorite music maker. Billy Corgan and James Iha of The Smashing Pumpkins created a massive guitar sound that was paramount in defining the alt-rock sound of the '90s. In this video, we grab some pedals from the office and see how close we can get to some of those iconic tones in this episode of #PotentPairings.

-use a strat with lace sensor pickups, not hot rails

The background guitar in "1979's" chorus was actually an acoustic guitar ran through some small sounding amp with minor distortion and this gave it that floating harmonic sound when he strums the A chord in the "shake these zipper blues" part.
You can hear it here in their FX track along with Billy's vocal effects as well.
