Very timely advice. I have been having just such a problem with my release bearing spring not wanting to stay in place. I'll definitely be trying out the zip tie. BTW, not sure what a cheap throw out bearing costs but CA have 2 on their website and one is roughly double the price. I'm guessing this is the one to go for?

Yes, go for the best quality bearing you can, given the amount work involved in changing it.
How high on the painful scale is just removing the gearbox?
