Hello from Germany! I've been infected with the Alfa virus for a few years now and recently discovered these videos. I have a lot of respect for what you do! I would never dare to do a restoration myself, so I recently bought a fully restored GT 1300 Junior and thanks to these videos I understand the technology, bodywork, details and background much better, so I now enjoy it even more. Great job and keep up the good work!!
@janraas6924 thank you for the positive comments and welcome to our channel. Great to hear you are helping to keep these wonderful little cars alive and on the road. Don't be afraid to start doing work on your car yourself. It's the best way to really get to know your car and enjoy the experience even more. 😊
🙋♂️
thank you very much
where can i find the right bearings for the pinion and for the differential (both sides)? are the original manufacturers still exists?
@eoirlev we used a local machine shop for the rebuild and they sourced the bearings. I would speak to someone reputable near you who rebuilds differentials and gearboxes. Some bearings may be available through classic alfa in the UK or Center Line in the USA.
Looks like an interesting option to perform a refinish!
It has worked really well 👍
Loving your work! I have 2 GT's that will need new boxes. I only hope that you produce these for sale 🙏
Once we get the final print done and test fitted we will look to make some for sale with flocking in them 😀
Interesting challenge and it looks very nice 👍👍👍
Thank you 😊
Big improvement. What happened about the 3D printed one? Sorry but some of the audio on this is so quiet I can barely hear you ☹
3d printed one is on its way and will get done and installed. Sorry about the audio😒
Thats a great product. Can you tell us where you got it please as am interested in doing same on my Step Nose glove compartment
Flock industries. They are in Queensland . Sorry about the audio.
@@AlfaAddicts thanks - found the supplier - which size did you get and is it enough or did you think you need more / less. Cheers
Great video. I’d like to flock my stepnose dash top section. Any chance you could share the fixing points? Thanks James
James, Thanks. Can you clarify what you're looking for please?
@@AlfaAddicts the location and number of the dash connection points.
It’s nice that the missing parts can be created by 3D printer! I must have great possibilities for the classic car enthusiasts!!!
Yes, we think so as well👍😀
Sweet.
3D printing is brilliant. It is turning classic car preservation on its head. If money is no object, go ahead and have your parts machined out of solid aluminium billet or made in carbon fibre in an autoclave, but this is the affordable solution for most of us. Love it. EDIT: That green is wild! No doubt you'll use black for the real one but I imagine that one lit round outside by LED panels like something from a sci fi movie 😆
🍀, yep wild..tempting as it is ..but we will go black, with black flocking inside
@@AlfaAddicts Chicken! 😀 I jest. You made the correct choice 👍
That’s very, very clever. Maybe you could print entire dashs from a good, straight example. One thing I don’t understand, though, is fitting inoperative / dummy parts. If you’re going to fit the radio, why not wire it in? It’s hardly difficult; power, earth, the aerial and a single speaker.
👍 thanks. Radio antenna was taken out as it spoils the cars lines in our opinion. With all the tech nowadays we will leave it to the new owner to decide which way they go😀
Excellent job! Enjoying your vidéos, as they‘re out of the true restoration World … not meant to make things easy … but showing how hard it is to do things right even if using modern technology (e.g. 3D printing the glovebox)
Thank you, we try and keep it real😊
G'day mate, I've got 3 105s. 1 daily driver, 1 close 1 refurbed just needs putting together. I'm on the Sunshine Coast. Would love to have a call sometime. Rick
Rick, no problem. I drive up to the Sunshine Coast regularly. Contact me garyclayton01@gmail.com.
Excellent 👍👍
thanks
Thank you your guys are awesome! Such insight that is thorough and precise. Cheers and keep up the great work.
👍😊
Great Job, you have motivated me to push on with my build, thanks.
Thanks . Don't be afraid to tackle these tasks 💪🏻
Good job!
Thank you
Congrats! It seems that it’s going to be completed very soon and looks perfect as far as I can see on your video. Looking forward to watching the alfa running on the road🍀
Thank you very much 😊
The restoration of the 105 is progressing well and I can certainly empathise with the pesky door adjustments - especially when performing the adjustment on a newly painted car. To assist with the door closure recommend a light rub of talcum powder on the new door seals. From my end, the engine sounds somewhat 'tappety' - so recommend that you verify the tappet clearances as soon as practicable. As for engine 'grounding', the problem usually lies with the open weave ground strap that is attached from the engine (starter motor side) to the chassis - which from past experience is often overlooked. Recommend that you check the condition of the open weave cable and the connections, as it's proper fitment is critical. I have witnessed situtations where the said cable was damaged/disconnected or all together missing - which resulted in the accelerator cable doubling as the earth wire - which needless to say is undesirable and results in an accelerator cable which unexpectedly (and annoyingly) is very hot to the touch.
Thank you for the great comments and tips. 💪🏻
Great that you will use the steel wheels and Stainless Steel hubcaps. The steel wheels are made either by Firsat or Fergat, both companies supplied steel wheels to most Alfas , Fiats and even Lancias. Fun fact , the Alfa Romeo MIlano badge is made either by Bomisa or Bellu
Cool fun facts thanks 😊
Just admirable the amount of work done in this Alfa. Red paint it's really tricky to get a well done job, but looks stunning!
Thank you very much, hopefully we can get it completed soon for everyone to see
Are you putting the rubber at the valance and the bonnet. This helps stop engine fumes from getting in through heating ducks.
Yes, we have the rubber seal for this 👍
It's a long painstaking job but definitely getting there!👍
Thank you
Bloody doors 🤬
😆
Very good!
Thanks
Looking and sounding great. I wish we were not on the opposite sides of the earth, it would be fun to have them side by side for a few pics. We have a couple more minor projects to complete - thanks for the shoutout my friend!
Thanks, yes that would certainly be a bit of fun to see them next to each other.
Hi David, l'm also after glovebox tub for my step nose dash. Would l be able to buy a 3D printed copy from you?
At this stage we are waiting to see how it comes out. If we like them we can certainly make some for the market.
Looking good mate.
Thank you, still a little way to go and some electrical faults to sort out.
Compliments on progress and note the non original seat pattern - which is an interesting look. Is there a rationale as to why you have departed from the original seat pattern?
Thank you. Yep seats were taken from my daily driver to help expedite the project and deal with a cash flow issue 😆
It’s looking good. Pity you didn’t video the process getting there, though, as it would’ve made for interesting content.
Thanks. The process getting there contained a bunch of heartache and profanity 😆🤣
Based on my experience I`d keep with the Pirelli Centuratos. We have a 101 Spider and three 105`s (`65 Giulia Ti, `70 GTJ, & `74 2000GTV) and have tried several alternatives - all cheaper in New Zealand but those Pirelli tyres ride better and quieter, and handle more predictably on standard suspension settings than the alternatives. We buy from Longstone Tyres in UK.
Thanks, good advice 👍
Love it and congrats on the progress, its amazing how we are so close to the build progress on our 67 Step Nose.
Thanks Paul, yep uncanny 😆👍
Wow! Lots of progress!! I guess the car would be on the road very soon👍👍👍
Yes, we aim to have it on the road in the next few minths😆
Well done 😀 great progress, really good to see. Looking very nice. Try the Michelin classic XAS, I've heard these are a good compromise. The Cinturato CN36 have a great reputation but a bit pricey it seems. I remember my uncle back in the day mentioning the original CA67 were just not up to scratch, but loved the CN36 (185).
Thanks, yep CN 36 are interesting
Thanks for the update. Coming together nicely.
Thank you
Looking good
Thank you
Just catching up on this video now, indeed they are the one to collect. Their values are on the rise, following on from the coupes. I have my 1300 TI insured with Shannon’s and they recently increased its insured value up from $12K to $70K without hesitation. While mine wouldn’t actually fetch that much if I were to sell it, it’s certainly worth more than the $6.5K I paid for it about 8 years ago.
Absolutely, great buying and moreover, great driving💪🏻😀
I must admit I don’t have an issue in the Super being used as you are, but i must admit I am in the not leaving it looking like it is camp. The stripe down the side doesn’t do anything for the car, and as for the louvred in the bonnet, what was the person thinking. I too have a red Giulia, and while mine was originally a 1300 Ti, a PO turned it largely into a Giulia Super, with the early grill, all the correct stainless steel trims and a 1600. Giulia’s are sure cool. I used to daily my ‘69 1750 GTV for about 10 years, had a lot of fun with that car.
This Super used to be raced in Western Australia and has had a hard life. I was lucky to come across it languishing in a friend's shed and managed yo save it. I agree restoration over rat rod any day, but for now she lives as she is, and she gets tons of positive comments..just great to see these cars put smiles on people's faces. Thanks for sharing your story.
I get it now, as I was just watching the first video of when you got it. 👍😁. i have actually owned 3 Giulia’s over the years, my correct one came over from Adelaide some years ago. My 2nd Giulia was a complete rusted out car but is now virtually completely rebuilt by my brother and us being turned into a track/classic rally car. I also used to own a 2L Berlina which I also ran as a daily driver for many years. All good fun. One day I will get my Giulia on the road but for the time being it sits under covers in my lockup garage, along with my ‘69 Fiat AC 124 sport that I have owned for the past 44 years !! Some years ago I made a video of my Giulia and put it on my youtube channel (under my name). It’s basically a very sound car with some usual rust, but does require a full suspension rebuild (i have most of the parts needed from Alfaholics), etc etc. Need time, money and space to work on it.
Giulias are great little cars. But I cannot agree with the preservation crowd, if it needs work, make it perfect. If it is a perfectly preserved car, then different story. We all want our Supers to look great, don't we.
😀 I agree, I've always wanted the cars to look their best
Agree - I'm not a fan of Alfa 'rat rods'.
Very much appreciate your well used Giulia Super - as it's clearly still providing a sterling service. In my youth, Alfa coupes and spiders were all the rage, whilst Alfa sedans were very much 'unloved' and normally used as a source of replacement parts for the sportier models. It's no longer the case, as both Giulia and Berlinas, are keenly sought after with prices to match. I certainly regret the 'disposal' of my Berlina 2000 Auto.
Thanks for sharing those memories, you can always buy another one..some nice examples on carsales.com 😀
I am a little perplexed about this dash, it appears to have an original tan coloured textured vinyl cover and not a smooth faux veneer covering. My Sprint GT has a similar textured grey colour dash, not seen tan on either GT or GTV.
Yes, we have applied a black crackle finish to the old faux wood dash as it was in poor condition. Junior models typically had a grey textured dash.
Did you have any issues with the cardboard material distorting due to water? I'm trying to fix some soggy areas on mine!
No we didn't, not sure how to solve that
Coming along nicely! One question, though: why didn't the wiper motor fuse blow when all that heat must've been building up in the system?
That is a good question ..hmmm...not sure...we will check the wiring flowing through the footswitch as well.🤔
Based on my experience in Victoria, if a non-laminated windscreen was original equipment when the car was new then it can be installed. The aforesaid only applies to restored cars - not modified cars. However there is no doubt that a laminated version is safer. For the new windscreeen, recommend you check its shape with the old screen as I have encountered some new windscreens that were poorly manufactured and posed a problem when fitted - i.e. the central bottom edge of the screen tended to jut out of the sealing strip.
Sage advice..we have checked the shape but not measured...will do based on your observations 👍
'promosm'
A happy new year and congratulations to the nice motor and your project!!!
Thank you very much, the very best to you too
I’m looking to buy one that’s in the same shape 😊
Be brave💪
