How To Reset a Honda Element Maintenance Light - EricTheCarGuy

  • How to reset an Element's maintenance light is a short video but I've had many customers in the past come to me very worried about what that yellow "maintenance required" light means. No worries it just goes off every 7500 miles to remind you to perform a particular service depending on your milage, see your owners manual for the service your Element might need.

Yeah. All Hondas/Acuras use the same procedure to reset that light. For most older Hondas/Acuras though, the light won't go out like in the video. You'll need to hold the select/reset button for at least 10 seconds after you turn the key to the "ON" position and then release the button and turn off your car, wait 5 seconds and then turn it back on. It should go out then AND like Eric said, check your owners manual and perform the maintenance that is required. Hope this helps and good luck!

Thank you for pointing out that I missed that 2nd "o" in "too". Back on topic, I have seen the disregard for such "maintenance required" lights far too often. A woman came into my shop for an oil change. The car had 30k miles on it and never had an oil change. So much sludge built up in the head that we couldn't add oil. We had to devise a funnel using a plastic drinking straw and add oil THROUGH THE DIPSTICK TUBE!! No matter how many lights come on, people will just keep ignoring them.

Many cars here in the UK the reset interval is 20,000 miles. So the service light comes on after 20,000 miles and shows 20,000 miles when reset, which according to service book means full service, and 10,000 miles is intermediate service.

In the winter my Honda Element 2008 battery gets weak if I do nit use the car daily. Recently I had to charge the battery with a wall plugin charger and then boost to get the car to start. Ever since that something is wrong with the instrument cluster. Triangle with exclamation point, VSA, engine light and TPMS lights are all on and the tach & speedometer gauges work briefly but then both drop to zero. Other than that the car runs perfectly fine. Cruise control works so the car is detecting the speed, the gauges simply are not displaying it. Ideas for what is wrong and how to fix it?
