lBE: Well, he obviously did not write the entire shows, and there is documentation of that. However he paid enough to the real writers that they were happy not receiving credit.
Back in the 70`s and 80`s I watched this show every week. Cracked myself up every time haha. Benny was a true comedian. Even when he said nothing I laughed hard because of his expressions. Really miss those times.
Me too. He was born with a comically-able expression on his face. I read about his life story. He became very very wealthy, yet he lived in a tiny working class apartment, to his only pair of shoes to the repair man and wore his clothes until they literally shabbed themselves away. His father was a clown circus, and that is probably where he inherited that talent from. When the politically correct brigade took over England, they cancelled his show and he sank into a depression until he died of heart failure in his apartment.
Riaz Ullah not by Thames television he wasn’t, he gave them 25 year’s service and they washed their hands of him when people were calling him sexist etc. It killed him.
He was the greatest. Everyone, everyone used to rush home to watch his shows when I was a kid, because if you missed it, you couldn't join in the conversations at school about it the next day.
He really adapted his music to the times plus his voice is always on key considering he was not a professional singer, nice job Benny. And he came out with great songs actually...i really enjoyed them. Garden of love, Ernie the fastest milkman...., Funny old world, I’ll never know, Colleen, Harvest of love, Lonely Boy, etc.
His musical numbers and visual comedy are definitely his best. Most of his verbal stuff hasn't aged well. … and your right he did move with the times. This is 1986 and the 70s stockings and bras leering were very much out and he gives one of lady dancers quite a part.
Benny Hill was brilliantly funny. My cousin and I could not stop laughing. He was so shy and didn’t have any girl friends and was respected by all the women he worked with. He remains a great comedian.
Georgia his first girlfriend wanted to marry him but he wasn't ready to settle. Then he proposed to an actress and another colleague who went on to marry Bob Monkhouse's wife as well. He had women but not long term relationship s
Destroyed by Thames Television who cancelled his still popular show for not being politically correct. He still cracks me up with laughter after all these years and he's still recognised to this day for being a comic genius all over the world. It was harmless fun and all the ladies who worked with him loved and respected him.
What a damned shame... Benny got cancelled, not because his show wasn’t still popular, he got canceled because somebody went woke and thought he wasn’t appropriate for television anymore. Taking Benny of the air like that broke his heart and took away his purpose to create and live. I think that contributed to his death. He lived to make the show. He didn’t have a wife or kids. He didn’t have any family. He lived rather modestly and spent most of his time at the studio coming up with material. His creative output pace and stamina were absolutely incredible. Week after week, he made his show, looked for new talent, collaborated with new people, launched many people’s careers. No one ever complained he didn’t treat them fairly. No on ever complained of any harassment. He just wanted to make people laugh. The executives at Thames took that away from him. I remember staying up late on Friday nights, sneaking to watch the show with my brothers, laughing our heads off! Good times. We’d never seen any thing like it. The wit, the sarcasm, the satire, the singing, the dancing, the plays on words! Benny was the complete comedic package! A true master! He took pieces from everywhere and made it his own original thing. RIP to Mr. Benny Hill and all the people who worked with you on your show. You are all missed by so many.
I remember years ago Johnny Carson wanted him on his show and Benny never went on. I AM SO GLAD HE DIDN'T. Benny is at a different (higher) level than Johnny and says to me that I call the shots (Benny Hill speaking) and not Johnny. Love that and I know people will yell at (or something like it) me, but I always thought Johnny was over rated and it was the guests, like Rickels and Hope and that ilk put Johnny on the map. Benny Hill put himself on the map and is BRILLIANT!!! Thanks. James.
He did not go to any of the talk show because he was scared of not being funny enough for the americans, until his manager convinced him after Thames brought his show to the USA where it became a success. He then came to New York and did some shows , he was really surprised by the fact he was an International star. Really an humble decent man!
Partially right about Carson, but the reason all those guys (and gals) "put him on the map" is that he knew when to shut up. He learned from his predecessors (Jack Parr and the inventor of late night talk shows, Steve Allen) that when you have an interesting guest you just give a little nudge and a bit of guidance and let them go. Unlike today's stable of hosts who have to make all the interviews about themselves.
Ben was not only a GENIUS!!! with his comedy sketches & his songs. But, he was also able to speak in several languages ASWELL!!! I just can't remember which languages or how many he was able to achieve. All I remember it was more than 4 I think!!! ( I may be wrong so please don't persicute me for that as someone would 😠 ) Maybe someone else may know the answer to that. 👍😉.
after many complaints about the loss of this great series and his sacking what a shame a letter arrived informing him he was to be reinstated the morning the same day he died,,, RIP Benny we loved you
The routine with the dancers at 5:44, where the black dress keeps switchibg around, was an act of genius on the part of the film editor.
he was 62 years old in this video, still had that twinkle in his eyes, he wrote all his songs, what a great talented man, loved him!

I read he lived in an apartment in , queens gate but e relocated. Yes was humble but I believe e was a very generous man but frugal wit himself.
Me, too‼️
RIP Benny, died alone in his apartment with the TV on, but he will NEVER be forgotten.
Just think, no one was nagging him. What a way to go!
Gosh. I sure hope that show isn't still on.
@@rikkilleen3169better than the crap of today, no women with tattoos or piercings hanging out, just feminine women, no gender benders, life so good.
Not only was Benny brilliant but such an incredibly talented cast!
Very funny, you often don't appreciate genius until it's gone. Benny Hill was superb.
Benny has always been appreciated and always will be.
THATS WHY I DONT WANT TO GO

Benny Hill - one of my absolute heroes. Great stuff.
How can you not like a Benny Hill sketch with Bob Todd as a dancing constable?
Don't know what Henry Mcgee was doing either!
@@darrenpolat8701 He always had the rubber-legged thing going on when he danced.
March 89 how time flies god bless ya Banny
Loved Benny Hill. I can remember when I read of his passing. I cried.
His shows were a kind of burlesque, never over the top, but just right.
Funniest comedian, parody artist of all time! I think a lot of shows mimicked their artistry during, and after his.
Benny was the ultimate comedian! How I miss these old days.
I remember when I was small, laughing so much, watching Benny hill,,
a true comedic genius. Best of the best.

yes indeed his bio said that he was a very down-to-earth man, having a simple life, caring only about the show
Indeed he lived pretty normal always trying to find ways to make people happy
Simply the best comedian, not "one of".
Benny Hill= comedic genius.
only one in a lifetime--thanks Benny

Cracking birds, cracking jokes, what more could an 80s guy want :)
I really liked watching Benny Hill. I sure miss him.
I miss him too.
With all the covid nonsense on tv today it's nice to put a bit of Benny on to cheer you up, and to remind you what proper comedy was.

And he came out with great songs actually...i really enjoyed them. Garden of love, Ernie the fastest milkman...., Funny old world, I’ll never know, Colleen, Harvest of love, Lonely Boy, etc.
Ernie was one of the cleverist songs of all time, fantastic lyrics.

How clean and original England was!
The British had absolutely zero idea what they had!
A tv-show is representative for the whole of England to you? Ok ...
And now? No?
(I am from Moscow).
Withe the punks and heroin of the late 70s and 80s on the streets?
This British were famous for many things in those times..they built lovely cars too

Fond memories miles above anything nowadays sadly alot of he's sketches won't go down with some in today's world .
Was my favourite comedian in 70's and 80's. Remember being at school in about 1971 when he sang Ernie. Memories....
A true comic genius he was. There will never be another like him.
Benny was the best...
...and Manuel of Fawlty Towers was second best !!!
No matter how long they are the top is near the bottom.... good line. I found him so funny as a teenager in the 1970s.
