- Well, this is actually the last eight and a half minutes of The Buzz Aldrin Show (season 2, episode 17), including two Gumby announcements, the Chemist sketch and general madness of the lovely Pythons :D
- Komedie
*This comment has been removed as a violation of CZcams's policy on,* the word Semprini
I didn't expect a kind of Youtubish inquisition
No it hasn't
OI!! OUT!!
🚔
"Semprini"
"Of course, there really isn't a basement, he just goes off camera and we pretend."
I love Eric Idle.
Go off
And I love the wink
That's one of the most deliciously surreal sketches they ever did. Hardly any structure at all. The whole thing is just so marvellously semprini.
Alright, that’s it!
We finally have Internet access and you are now arrested!
Here here, well spoken Bruce.
Roight! Off with you then.
This week oye have been mostly eatin seabass. Oh, wrong show, I'll get me coat.
My hovercraft is full of eels
I love how you can see elements of different python jokes in all their work. They mentioned the parot and the officer also used the word "ptang" which in Holy Grail was part of what the knights of "Ni" said - "icky, icky ptang!!"
I love when the entire cast all played Mr. Gumby’s.🤣
Except for Terry Gilliam. He just animated them.
Not me. Most of this was funny but I find the Gumby's just tedious. Also the Pepperpots.
Blimey, I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition!
...NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!
sahiblindberg no it isn 't
What a show!
*dramatic and startling music plays*
NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPA- Oh bugger...
Semprini was a popular light musician/pianist in the UK back in the day. Well, 'popular' in the sense that your great-great grandma would've liked him; a sort of English Liberace or Lawrence Welk type.
4:07 "Ah!" and we see him standing off camera. Absolute genius.
Followed by the wink at 4:16.
The first time I ever got an STD scare, I went to that dingy little clinic, left a blood and a urine sample, and waited with all those people- nobody making small talk, nobody even looking at anyone else in the room, just a dead, embarrassed silence... all I could think of was, "WHO'S GOT THE POX?"
And!!??
@@paulstewart6293 Turned out I was clean...

Semprini?
OUT!!!!!
Not policy ... but it is standard procedure.
Love all Pythons but my God Michael Palin is awesome.
“Aren’t you gonna say, ‘what’s all this then?‘.”
They really had a lot of mileage out of that storefront set! The Chemist Sketch, The Dead Parrot Sketch, The Pet Conversion Sketch, The Cheese Shop Sketch, The Lingerie Shop Sketch,... the list must be endless!
The Semprini Sketch!
@@martinbynion1589 That was an extension of The Chemist Sketch.
The tobacconist/Hungarian/English dictionary sketch.

Thank you public television for bringing us Monty Python (and Marty Feldman's Comedy machine) in my teenage years. Comedy genius.
@05:27 - “…. Nice and scaley!” Lmfao 🤣
“Semprini…it’s such a tinny word, isn”t it?”
"OUT!"
I’d say there’s a woody quality to it
dreadfully tinny
Just demolishing the forth wall. LMAO
Kalligraphi yes, but in a comic way. Not in a deadpool way.
With Monty Python the fourth wall is an endangered species.
My favourite sketch of The Buzz Aldrin Show
how the hell has this aged so well
Good comedy is timeless.
Like a fine Red Leicester that we unfortunately just ran out of.
Everything ages well. It's some people who can't accept that.
@@MXB2001 "Everything ages well": how can you prove this?
@@MXB2001 humor that's just someone's bigotry said in a funny way isn't comedy.
Right. Who's got a boil on his semprini, then?

The not at all naughty chemist should have been arrested for using the word toilet.

I always loved *"The Buzz Aldrin Show"*.
"...and should not be construed as having any other significance."
*cut to Buzz Aldrin, The Buzz Aldrin Show*
Alberto Fernando Riccardo Semprini (1908 January 19, 1990) was an English pianist, famous for appearances on the BBC, mainly on radio.
Semprini Serenade rings a bell
All right, who''s got the boil on his pianist?
@@TheGreatAtario Jolly good show
Then he was 62 when this was aired. But looks like he had sense for humor.
I always thought it was Gary Semprini from Ipswich. The unknown creator of the hot dog. He will be upset when he finds out. He's 104 years old now. And it's the only pleasure he has since being deleted from Wikipedia.
"RIGHT! I'm taking you down to the station!"
"What for?"
"I'm charging you with illegal possession of whatever we happen to have down there!"
That line gets me every time lol
The 4th wall exploded
41 people have a boil on their Semprini.

UPDATE: 43 people wear the Semprini aftershave.

True pioneers of meta humor.
The only realistic part was where the cop let the real culprit run and stole some of the goods himself.
"This man has been shoplifting, officer!" "Oh yes?" "Yes!" "Are you trying to tell me my job?" "No but he's been shoplifting!" "Look, I must warn you that everything you may say will be ignored! Furthermore, given half a chance I'll put my fist through your teeth! PTANG PTANG!"
That and this:
"RIGHT! I'm taking you down to the station!" "What for?!?""I'm charging you with illegal possession of whatever we happen to have down there!"
That last line gets me every time XD God bless the Chaps!
"If I could walk that way, I wouldn't need aftershave".
"I wouldn't need aftershave" is the punchline.
It's a reference to an old mucky postcard joke, large lady asking for talcum powder, walk this way madam says the skinny shop assistant....
A toilet requisit-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-te!
How Michael Palin didn't lose it I shall never know...
Comedy gold like this simply doesn't exist now
less hard drugs in the writing room i guess
@@nunyabiznis3595 I'd say it was more like booze. Graham Chapman was hitting it pretty hard.
This episode is one of my absolute favourites of the entire show. Series 2 overall was simply excellent.
We loved this. The next day at school was very funny. A Friday, I think.
Monty python permanently changed humour for millions of us. Amazing, really. BBC indoctrination.
SEMPRINI.
I'mma say it...
SEMPRINI!! COME AN' GET ME, COPPERS!!!
**runs off, laughing maniacally**
OUT
*Bobbies are after him!*
Love the way this show portrayed police, as did many other UK comedy afterwards (no doubt due to Python influences)
The M&W sketch with the cop bullying the community support officer comes to mind.
"The BBC would like to apologise to the police for the character of Police Constable PanAm; it was not meant to be representative of the average police officer. Similarly, the reference to Buzz Aldrin, the astronaut, was the product of a disordered mind, and should be construed as having no other significance."
Great Scott I finally understand the references to the Spanish Inquisition sketch
Better late than never. No time Toulouse!
“NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!”
God, I've seen this sketch so many times over the years, and not ONCE did I get the "mad one, mad two" joke.
Palin really is Gumby in Chief, isn't he?
He did the best Gumby, no doubt. The professor who argued that the Battle of Trafalgar was fought on dry land, near Cudworth, Yorkshire. "Because Drake... was too clever... for the German... fleet!"
Masterpiece, I’ll never forget the first time I saw this. And right at 2:02 I lost it.
Whenever someone asks me what's on TV I always stare over at it for a second and say, "...looks like a penguin!"
Two types in the world those who love Monty Python and those with don't have a sense of humor.
Classic. Tragically, currently this is happening seriously in many countries around the world.
0:54 Here's what the "rude" pharmacist (Chemist) was describing.
Pox: Most likely Gonorrhea
Boil on the bum: self-explanatory
The Winds: Excessive gas
As for the "chest rash"...😉
Grahams FATANG FATANG always crack me up.
May I present Mr. Fim Tin Win Lim Bim Bus-Stop F'Tang F'Tang Ole' Biscuit-Barrel.
This may seem easy like child's play, but it's hard work! Appreciate it!
I watched this with my mom once, and she said the five Gumbies were better off as frogs!
Had she been a witch she might have turned them into newts.
Alberto Semprini, or Semprini, was an English pianist, composer and conductor

i've seen about a million MP sketches, and always wondered how they didn't crack uo every 2 seconds.. Is here any such thing as a MP outtake reel? I hope not- I like to think they NEVER "lost it." Funniest show in history, either side of the pond.
You can obviously say you were not expecting the Spanish Inquisition.
A five-frog curse.. It's all in these details. Their writing abilty will never be equaled. Ever.
He's not, I'm a witness!
5:12 I Didn't Expect the Spanish Inquisition

***** Oh yes we Do!

NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH SEMPRINI..... oh no....
fzerowipeoutlover OUT!
Did anyone else noticed a very quick image and sound in between Ken Shabby's line "keeps my skin nice and scaly" and "uh sorry again can't stop"? It's just one of many instances in the series of rough edits left intact in episodes that suggest cut scenes. Judging from the "I..." sound and image, it's appears to be John Cleese.
This video needs to be flagged for gratuitous amounts of Semprini.
(Not serious before anyone's dumb to do it.)
OUT!!!
Michael and Eric are hilarious in this :D
After all these years I finally found out what a Semprini is. Thanks, commenters.
Love it. I lost count of the quick references to so many other sketches: halibut, parrot, Spanish Inquisition, etc.
The policeman in this sketch is less insane than 2023 cops hassling people for 'non-crime hate incidents"
Only in the minds of self-centered privileged people
When they both double-take at the mention of parrot I lose my shit. Amazing bit, this.
I nominate "Nobody remembers who the second man to walk on the moon was" as a candidate for the Top 10 shabbiest, most ill-considered cliche's. Everybody who is anybody remembers that it was Buzz Aldrin. Why would that fact be forgotten? The chap's name is Buzz. That's fun-to-know trivia if I ever had any sneak up and bite me on the arse.
"oh, that's nice" made me roflmaocopter :D
These guys were/are the Greatest! Have loved them almost all of my life. Carry on, stiff upper lip and all that....
I have one critique for this: After the chemist said "Blimey, I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition", they should've waited a second for the Spanish Inquisition to jump in, emphasizing the fact that they weren't. Other than that, brrrriliant!
The expression: "I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition!" was a common phrase at that time, spoken by anybody who felt that they were being overly scrutinized or harassed. The humour lies in the very fact several men dressed like Spaniards from the era of Inquisition show up after Cleese emits that perfectly common complaint.
I watched this stuff when I was around 9…. It’s the reason why I didn’t bother with oxbridge.
I totally crack up at 5.16 when Michael Palin goes 3 types, no FOURR! kinds of aftershave lotion! & Graham Chapman policeman! bursts in at 6.10 and shouts!!!> 'Right, right RRRRIGHT!! bRILLIANTNESS! U.S end credits- great!
Wacky, surreal and marvelously Pythonesque! Thanks!
The real Buzz Aldrin show was filmed in a studio and on location (hidden by cloak of secrecy) somewhere.
All my friends preferred Thunderbirds which had color and more action
Hehe....Eric and Micheal are so cute in this!
And omg Graham Chapman was the funniest thing on this earth!
P-TANG! P-TANG!
love him!!
That's the funniest I've ever seen Graham Chapman! So nice to see the usual Straight Man cut loose!
Many cite the parrot sketch as the best Python sketch ever, but this may be the most ingenious.
Well, after pushing the Chapman's ashes over a the edge of a table.
I enjoy Cleese acting like a human thesaurus, but I actually think the Parrot Shop & Cheese Shop sketches stop being funny after the second or third viewing. Clever, but a bit longwinded.
I find this one much better just because it has multiple jokes within the larger joke.
@@koholos At least twice they've subverted the Parrot Sketch just to see what Cleese will ad lib. One of the times when it was suggested that he take a cat as exchange and he asked "does it talk" he got the answer "Yes." Another night when he first announced the parrot was dead the shop clerk said "Ok well I'd better replace it for you then."
All I can say to your post ... surmising the parrot is the best is ::: """ tis'nt """
I use Halitosis as well.
I named my first pet snake after this show, Semprini the Ball Python
love the kn*ckers/kn*ckers bit
I wonder what Buzz Aldrin had to say about it when this appeared on the screen for the first time.
Pharmacists who has the chest rash: lady rasies her hand : Pharmacist i have to get a bigger bottle😂😂😅
What would we all watch back when we had 6 channels? Funny stuff!!!
As a teenager this was a favourite sketch.i was always saying requisite trying to do it like michael palin. I really got n my mates nerves but loved the play on words as the pythons did.good old days.requisite t.t ....😅
Ah, Monty Python. Making my laugh until my Semprini hurts.
I'd like to buy a license for my pet Semprini - - - Eric !
It reminded me of the "A.T. Hun Turns Himself In to the Police" sketch where Terry Jones was having trouble with his mustache and eventually threw it into his hat. I guess they didn't have good Spirit Gum on the set in those days.
There is a work-around: the singular, 'semprino', is not banned.
I have been looking for a "toilet requisittttttttte" for TEN YEARS. All I could remember is Michael Palin repeating the 'tttt'. I used to do it to annoy my parents. :D I still do, actually....
Occasionally, I'll ring my dad up and throw in a 'requisitttttttte". He usually hangs up on me.
Also, mad ONE ,mad TWO mad THREE, mad FOUR.
Most of my childhood is memories of me annoying my parents.....ah yes, Inspector Toad of the Yard!
I have two favorite foods, pizza, tacos and...I have three favorite foods..

THIS!
Who are those guys anyway, the ones that wear the vests
The Shim Sham Man I was asking myself the same thing. I think they're just recurring characters like the Spanish Inquisition and the 16 ton weight
"Right! I'm taking you along to the station. I'm charging you with illegal possession of whatever we happen to have down there!" U.S. Police in a nutshell.
Ben Glaser Exactly
"Who's got a boil on his semprini?"
"Right, right, RIIIGHT! Now then, now then.." 'your turn'. "Aren't you going to say 'what's all this, then?'" "oh, right. What's all this, then?" Kills me everytime.
Kills you? A murder! Allow to introself myduce, I am inspector Tiger of the Yard.
Expecting friends from the U.K. this is just what I needed to get in the right mood 😂😂😂!
I needed this.
Good comedy will always stand the test of time.

Oh I love it when they do callbacks! The Spanish Inquisition guy is great!
@kubaniski They are the Gumbies, a classic Monty Python staple
Classic. And Eric is indeed cute. :)
Of course I had a crush on Michael Palindrome the moment I first saw him, (oh my god, the auto-fill just changed "Palin" to "Palindrome"!) but over time, I've come to really believe that Chapman was the genius of the group, and Idle the least appreciated. Eric was the odd man out. Cleese and Chapman wrote as a team and Jones and Palin wrote as a team. Idle did not write any sketches, but he was crucial to the chemistry and success of Monty Python. Just watch "Travel Agent Sketch" to see th
Eric wrote the Nudge nudge know what I mean? Sketch so he did write some.
If I could walk that way I wouldn't need aftershave.
