When interviewers asked a question and then kept quiet and let their guests ramble. How I wish they would do that now.
Except Graham Norton. Love him.
The Brit interviewers usually had better manners than Anerican hosts.
Tell Fiona Bruce that!!!đ
You are so right. Michael Parkinson, Terry Wogan, Steve Wright. The masters of interviewing who listened and understood it wasnât about them. All gone sadly.
What a true point !
When people could take a joke and weren't offended by everything...love Barry
Right?! Conservative Boomer types are so offended by everyone elseâs mere existence, they really should just get over it.
oh i don't think so. people were hurt back then since we're all human. claire clearly was. it's just that people had to pretend to not be crying inside to make others happy. i prefer now.
THOSE were THE DAYS!
HEY
As an aussie, I love Dame Edna but truth is, I'm here to gawk at David Essex. I had such a crush on him back in the day. đ
Iâm an Aussie too & had a huge crush on him back in the day, still doâŠâ„ïž
Go girls â€â€â€â€â€
Me too.......
@@colleenrichards5662 And he is still gorgeous today!! â€
@@beulah3484 đ I knowâŠ!! He certainly got better with age, IF thatâs possibleâŠ.đđ
How can a magnificent rare COMEDIC GENIUS like Barry have left us? Never ever will there be another. A gift from Australia to the world. We love you Barry. RIP.
Totally hilarious
Theyâll never be another. Absolutely wonderful Barry Humphries, who gave laughter and happiness to millions
Dame Edna is so quick, she's slightly had a pop at them before they realise đ. I think David Essex was confused about it all đ
With Dame Edna, I always loved how everybody bought into the act. Barry Humpries was a comedy genious.
If people 'bought into the act', it's not their fault. What did you expect them to do? Lift HIS skirts, tear HIS tights, to check?
@@MJ-hl1kk Get over yourself, people who didn't want to be around Edna simply chose not to. You can too.
@@truerosie Don't tell me what to do. It's my opinion and it was not addressed to you!
@MJ-hl1kk you seem so very confused. Bless your heart.
@@tiffytattoo2450 No, I'm not confused, unfortunately for you. I was just commenting on some people's taste in humor, which I find crass in every way. Looks like you have taken that personally. And that's good!đ
We NEED Dame Edna TODAY!
For sure!!
No one stands a chance when Dame Edna's on.
I absolutely love it when she completely takes over the show at the end and thanks everyone as her guests, including the host! haha!
Yeah, you would also do that, I'm sure, seeing that you're such an admirer of GROSS.
â@@MJ-hl1kkWhat do you mean by that? What are you saying is gross?
@@lucpraslan Just ignore them.
Claire Rayner was so nice for letting Dame Edna lean on her for laughs. I'm sure she knew ahead of the show that this was going to happen.
Clare Rayner was such a good sport here bless her x
Dame Edna has left the building- Thanks for all those laughs
Clare Rayner played the stooge to Edna brilliantly! Who knew she had such a great sense of humour.
Thank you, my thoughts exactly.
Definitely canât get comedy like that anymore-hilarious! đđđ
Princess Diana's very very er...dead.
Saw a Dame Edna show in London in the 90s. Quite possibly the funniest show I've ever seen.
RIP Barry Humphries and thank you for all you gave us â€
Love that Clare Rayner is up,for a laugh
"Goodness knows what you get, darling."
Love David Essex.
Dame Edna was hilarious. Loved the interaction with Clare Rayner she was great.
Was this universe ever big enough to contain her? lovely to find interviews like this, those laughs just keep on comin!
One of best comics to ever grace the earth.... Barry's wit is razor sharp.... brilliant
David essex one lovely.looking man x
Thanks for been on this dull planet the genius of Barry humphries
Rest in Peace Barry!
I loved dame Edna I always about died laughing at her you never know what she was going to say
Always loved Dame Edna. Naturally funny
was there anybody left that Edna didn't insult....đđđđđ..Brilliant
'David the little gypsy" hahahaha
Interestingly, his mother really was a 'gypsy' or 'Irish traveller'.
No one will ever come close to her. đđđ
Dame Edna was brilliantly funny! Thanks for sharing!
CREAKING chairs what genius purchased them ?
Couldnât have a talent like Dame Edna today-someone would get âoffendedâ , be âtraumatisedâ need therapy, and have him banned
Quite right. And our loss
Sheâd be cancelled within one interview sadly
Not in Australia.
There's still Jiminy Glick.
@@antrimlariot2386 now i have to go and find out who this is
Dame's outfit is GENIUS!
Ooooo glorious. â€â€â€đđđWe miss you dame Edna đ
What a gift to the world Dame Edna was. Thank you forever, ol' Barry! â€â€â€â€â€
When we were allowed to have free comedyâ€
Loved her !!!!đ
Gotta love Dame Edna!
The lady in the tie is certainly taking her jabs with good humor.
Great times when people weren't offended over everything
From the days when LWT brought us huge talent compared to the banality of todayâs ITV led by Carlton.
I couldn't stand Barry Humpries! "and yet" I have to say that Dame Edna was so iconic and legendary. There are so few who could have pulled off such a unique and beloved character.
And what about Sir Les Patterson?
There was also another character of Sandy Stone
The thing is, this isn't really a drag act because Edna is an exaggerated version of a real woman. She's one of the women Barry observed while growing up in suburban Melbourne. She isn't effeminate.
God I miss the dame
Love Dame Edna and Clare Rayner is a brilliant sport and what a lovely talking voice she has. X
The best of drag and humorđ€
Nothing and nobody was sacred to Dame Edna.
Weâve all lost Barry now ⊠but my God ⊠he lives on and continues to make us HOWL â€đŽó §ó ąó łó Łó Žó ż
Really funny comedians like Dame Edna and Little Britain would never be allowed in this boring political correct time.
Love Little Britten. And the Fast Show. Suit you sir!!
Yes. The soul has gone out of comedy these days.
Michael Aspel is a true professional. He's such a gentleman ....and has a great sense of humour. He knew that giving Humpries free rein would make great television - and so just let him loose đ
The woke brigade would hate her đ€Łđ€Łđ
Not at all. It's the anti-woke brigade that has no sense of humour.
You have that quite twisted around
Barry would have used the woke movement as fodder.
just a note - david essex was a heartthrob in the 70s and 80s. i feel like that has been written out of history.
Not my history!đ
Brilliantđ€Łđ€Ł
So funny! Priceless comedy!
Bravo Claire Rayner and Bravo Michael Aspel. Marvellous. 6
he was hilarious!!! bless his soul.
đđđđđđđđWonderful!
Those were the days. I miss them so much.
Claire Raynor appeared on a show with Les Patterson called lunch with Les 1991 also on CZcams very funny
David Essex in 1985!!! Were we ever really that young and beautiful ?
I think we were. What happened over the decades?
Gos, I really miss Dame EdnaâŠWe sure could do with her in this miserable worldâŠThank you Barry HumphreyâsâŠ.Thank you so very much for all the laughterâŠâŠYou are sadly missedâŠ.
Love Her, i was there when i was young and Gorgeous too đâ€â€â€â€â€â€
Is that the puffy shirt that featured in the Seinfeld episode?
Maybe where they got the idea from.
đ
Wonderful. With David Essex and Claire Rayner
Good Morning Chickens Dame Edna simply the best đđ€©đ„°đâđ
Michael perfectly riding the torrent from Dame Ednaâs brain. Itâs also ole as ing to see the guests playing along, although their opportunities to discuss their work was clearly compromised.
David Essex wow â€â€
Shame they couldn't have given her a chair that didn't squeak. On the plus side, she's a fantastic guest, and so funny đ đ
Dressed fromm chubby browns wardrobeđđ
Chubby wore her cast offs!
David Essex is 76 years old now.
That was a snarky comment from Raynor. Dame Edna said to her "Dear woman" Raynor replied "I can't say the same to you"
When female impersonators were the comedy turn rather than running for election.
david essex the second man to unsuccessfully introduce the puffy shirt
But I donât want to be the pirate!
Dame Edna, by her very nature, was completely unfiltered, but she was classy about it. This was the antithesis of Barry Humphries' other completely unfiltered character, Les Patterson.
Did Clare Raynor cut herself shaving? Anyway Edna killing it as usual! Legendary.
Itâs Dame Edna lipstick
HEY !-Is that fellow wearing a "PUFFY_SHIRT"-???
Razor sharp wit ! Barry Humphries was a genius and very much missed ......
What a loss he.was so.funny beyond
Had to google British Caledonian , not gonna lie
Looks like David Essex left a navy sock in the washer with his whites! What colour is that blouse meant to be? Miss Barry Humphries.
Prue Leith, the Aussie version. 2:24
What on earth is Claire Rayner wearing never mind Dame Edna's outfit ??!!
Such incredible modesty my little darlings đđđđ
Who are the other two guests?
David Essex, a singer from way back and Claire Rayner, an agony Aunt. She has died now. She was very popular and gave excellent advice to people with problems.
didn't realise michael aspel was attractive.
This shows that David Essex has no discernible personality whatsoever.
I thought that was David Cassidy, Ty for the clarification đ
He was sensible enough to know when he was outgunned - mind you, so was just about everyone else who ever appeared alongside the Dame.
Just a pretty boy, not much going on upstairs.
@@taffyalusa4642 Having met him twice at the height of his fame I found him down to earth with a subtle sense of humour. In this TV show he knows better than to outwit a professional comedian just as Barry Humphries wouldn't take on Essex with a song. Although as a caveat, having had Humphries at a theatre I managed in the early '80's I wouldn't have put that past him as Dame Edna!
Wished we could have heard David Essex singing. That's one of my favourite songs
Oh for the days when they had a live band onstage instead of piped plastic.
What year was this? I'm guessing early 90s.
Much earlier I would have thought.
1985.
Is that Seinfeld's puffy shirt?
Is David " too chilled"?
COMPLETELY upstaged.
SO FUNNY so funny. Wonderful who just nade us LAUGH. Fancy that. No offense possums.
What's Claire Rayner got on her face?
I think it might be Dame Edna's lipstick, from when she greeted her.
Two eyes a mouth and a nose đđ
Egg
Dame Edna's lipstick from the initial 'hello' smooch.
All I could think was, what the heck was David Essex wearing?? haha
It was the 80's. Men wore frilly blouses. Duran, Spandau, new romantics.
@@purplebrit Yes, I know, but I didn't recall David Essex being someone who was a fashion victim. I always thought he was more of an independent thinker!
David would suit anything he wore .
Bear in mind, this was back in 1985.
Didn't he perform in a "Mutiny' stage show? That was surely his costume....please, tell me me it was!!!đ
I swear Camilla could be Dame Ednaâs younger sibling đ
wow, that was catty. 'oh a woman' and an equally catty reply. It was tense from there on.
Not "her" best performance.
When you could laugh at the word transvestite and the meaning
You have completely missed the point. Dame Edna was not representative of the drag genre.
That makeup was rather terrible, wasn't it?
It was supposed to be. This was Dame Edna after all.
Awful creaturesâŠ
except for nice lovely David Essex!
Are you for real?
*I've got a question- are these all people chatting with each other conservatives or not??? đ€đ€*
Well that makes no sense
Why TF would you ask that???
@@paulschnaars6046 *"In life there's no sense itself."*
Not everything is political. It's humor from public figures in the entertainment industry. No politics, just fun.
For those able to recognize fun.
Well said darlingâ€â€â€â€â€
Coukd not see why anyone found him funny âŠ.my fault I know but just saying is anyone like me ?
David Essex shirt is disgusting
This was 1985!
Not today.
Aah, but it's what's UNDER the shirt that matters!!!
