The world is a sadder place without Barry Humphries.
Dame Edna had the two keys to being a comedic genius: razor sharp wit and perfect timing.
I think Ronnie Barker had those two qualities too.
And the 3rd key, hilariously funny
And let's add brilliant use of facial expressions...
So true!
@geoffjoseph8251 What the f is a 3rd key you weirdo?
The chat show guest to end all chat show guests. An absolute legend. RIP Dame Edna 😂
😊
The love of my life. You have been called my love
I hadn't known Barry had passed until I just saw your comment. My life is sadder for his passing, but immeasurably happier for knowing of him.
Every chat show with Dame Edna becomes a Dame Edna chat show.
I've laughed with Barry Humphries more than anyone else in my life. I can't believe he's gone. He's actually left a hole in my life.
Yes Jack, I feel the same way. Life will never be the same again. Nothing and no one will ever replace Barry Humphries. A true one-of-a-kind. ❤
You perfectly summed up how I feel about his passing x
Very sad when did he pass away
@@rosaliepercival 22 April 2023. Michael Parkinson followed a few months later (16th August).
Absolutely love the way Martin Sheen loses it completely! I thought he was gonna have a heart attack through laughter 😅😂
Barry was on a completely different level of comedy to others. The highest standard ever. RIP mate. Missed deeply 😢
"What a stupid noise!" ,🤣🤣
I saw several of Dame Edna’s live stage shows. All were great, and riotously funny. But at one particular show, on Broadway in 2005, Edna created a moment of such breathtaking hilarity that I regard it as a turning point in my life. It was a verbal gimmick involving an unsuspecting member of the audience. It induced in me a type of laughter that qualified as an out-of-body experience.
Please do share!
So…. What was the gimmick?
You had to be there and it’s hard to describe but: in Act II some members of the audience were brought onstage to read a play, complete with scripts and makeshift costumes. The characters were based on Dame Edna’s family. The audience member playing Dame Edna’s son “Kenny” was reciting his lines. There was a deliberate risqué mistake written into the script, a sort of fake typo, which caught everyone off-guard. It was uproarious and already extremely funny, but Dame Edna’s reaction to the reading of the line, her attempt to correct it, and her scolding of the audience for laughing, all came together as if the entire evening’s hilarity was hinging on that moment. Of course it had all been planned by Edna from the beginning. The audience was helpless, willing to be slaves of Dame Edna for having given us the funniest bit we’d ever experience in a theater.
I forgot to mention that this was in "Dame Edna: Back with a Vengeance" on Broadway.
@@windowtrimmer8211 Hm, maybe there is a tape of the show somewhere.
What brilliance he had...... 21 gun salute to you John Barry Humphries.... You did Australia well......RIP
The amount of skill to perfectly hold character while everyone around is losing it is remarkable.
A comedic genius and great story teller , who held everybody in the palm of his hand . Even Robin Williams !
Well, debatable: czcams.com/video/lSdt1B_4Giw/video.html
Yes! I fully get why Robin did.
Dame Edna, what a superstar, will be greatly missed ❤️❤️
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face...
Oh my god! Dame Edna sharing the set with Gloria Swanson! And I love Lauren Bacall's hearty, unfiltered enjoyment of Edna's unfiltered observations of Richard Gere ( a good sport)
A a
Yes with Gloria Swanston! Goodness me! Gloria was FINALLY outdone!!! The look on her face is priceless.
I can't make up my mind if Richard was in on the joke from the outset. Lauren laughed non-stop but poor Richard looked amused/bemused in equal measure.
@@patriciacathcart9233 I was left with the impression that Richard Gere didn't get the humour, wasn't trying to, and was doing his best to appear polite (and only juuuusssst succeeding).
Absolutely brilliant. He took pain and turned it into something just wonderful. God rest his soul.
Dame edna
.
So it's a man, right? I just wasn't certain but felt it was a cross dresser...comedy ahead its time.
@@Emy53 Barry was doing this in the fifties
@@zapkvrwondering if Mrs Slocombe character was a copy of Dame Edna since AYBS came out in early 70s
Edna was in the grand British tradition of guys dressing up as women! She was the absolute queen of this art form.
“Judy and Sharon, what funeral have you just been to?” 😂😂😂
The world now seems to be a dimmer place without Dame Edna. Laughter is a wonderful thing. She will be greatly missed. RIP
I love how relaxed Judi Dench and Sharon Osbourne are in their segment. Shoes off and curled up on their chairs, enjoying Dame Edna's company.
U know, I've literally seen that entire clip over 20 times I reckon. They ladies show their utter relaxed class, and DEE is altogether on another level.
Of all the interviews that one was for me the best ever
We never did find out whose funeral Judi and Sharon had been to.
We will never see anything like her again. Outstandingly brilliant
🤞
Pure genius. Absolute legend.
What a lovely compilation, possum. I smiled, chuckled and glowed for the entire half hour. There will never be a megastar anywhere like her.
Are you in England or America, like me? I wonder about the different experiences of Dame Edna from here to across the pond. I suspect that she, her take on life and culture hits us both the same.
@@ce311 I suspect Edna was a lot more transgressive for Americans than Australians or the English. It took Americans a lot longer to understand Edna. I watched an Edna tv special in the 80s with a group of Americans who didn't understand her at all.
He even came out strongly in support of biological reality. He was a Terf ❤️
Megastar?! She was a self-proclaimed gigastar by the end, possum, thank you very much! 😀
I don’t think Dame Edna’s humor went well with Americans. I’m trying to think now what the American sense of humor is, but it’s not Edna’s. I’m in America and I love her but I’m not typical by any means.
What a great compilation showing the absolute genius of Edna and Barry. Just brilliant.
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face...
I hope he really knew how much joy he brought to his audiences....an incredible legend without peer.
Never again we will have the brilliance of Barry, thank you so very much .
Of course, there will be.
How on Earth,'she' manages to keep a straight face while everyone else is collapsing with laughter... I'll never understand how she manages to do that and just carry on,quite amazing really and thank goodness we can look back at all these wonderful clips on CZcams when we're having a bad day!!
There was only 1 Dame Edna. She was the best of the best. I hope in Heaven she is making them all happy campers.
The segment at 26.44 where Dame Edna relates how the enzyme in mother's saliva has a curative element, and then lets on that her mother (living in the maximum security twilight home) is drooling sufficient quantities to harvest 7-8 barrels a day is one the most eye wateringly hilarious bits of tv I've seen in my 68 years on the planet. Vale, Dame Edna/Barry - an extraordinarily gifted comedian who invariably left everyone - audience, hosts and other guests - in tears of laughter. That was his/her gift to the world and what a stunning legacy it has now become.
Was Richard Gere in on the joke? Lauren Bacal. laughed non stop but I can make up my mind if Richard knew.
You may be right, but clearly not as gifted as her mother, who was making enough saliva to heal the whole of mankind, and that was in one week.
RIP you fabulous legend. You gave the world the gift of laughter. What a wonderful epitaph.
The most talented entertainer of all time...........
What a wonderful entertainer. Such a funny man. Thanks for all the laughs, Barry. There'll never be another like you.
Thank you for this magnificent compilation of Dame Edna's unparalleled humor! I still can't get over Barry Humphries' death.
Yep, I know how you feel.
This guy is a pure comedic genius and will be so sadly missed!!😢
And great as she was as a chat show guest nothing could compare to the full-on live performances with several characters on display - everything was unleashed and the audience was helpless with mirth by the end . RIP Dame Edna and thank you .
indeed! I loved Sandy Stone. That character could reduce me to tears. Not of laughter like Edna, but true pathos.
Love you Dame Edna. Thankyou for the laughs...legend. 🌹
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face...
@@frankhendricks5918 yes you you put a smile on my face. Thankyou.😀😅
Incredible timing and “she “ got away with Everything! And gee Michael Parkinson , was the perfect interviewer , just gave “ her “ free reign … 😂 😂
A lot of laughter left with him. He will be so missed!
Even when you know exactly what she's going to say it's still hilarious.
That's the bit I don't agree with
This 'act' ran for over 60 years.
I found it tiresome and repetitive when I knew what was going to happen next
I am absorbing her wit and charm ,the moisture and laughter equal to no one. Thankyou for this treasure! Laughter is medicine!
Thanks for putting this together. There were so many more moments showing her cutting wit and what people don't realize, her deep research into the lives of people on the shows so that she could get her timing just right to put them into a corner they couldn't get out of. I say "she" because, of course, she was created and literally took on a life of her own. It's a terrible loss, not only because of her talent, but because it is the end of an era of her own personal humour. There simply is nobody else who does what she did. It's gone forever. Sad.
As a Melburnian, one of her most brilliant moments was in her 'home town' in 2003, when she invited a charming young couple, married for seven years, onto the stage and telephoned the man's mother, who was on holiday in Brisbane. Hilarious, and available on the internet, as is her famous 'BBC Last Night of the Poms' at the "Alfred" in London in 1980.
A genius. She'll always be an icon to us mere mortals. 😂❤❤❤❤
Oh my Lord, how we are going to miss Barry. RIP Barry and thank you for the laughs.❤
Such an amazing talent, something we will never see again. I'm still sad at the passing of Barry Humphries and the many characters he created.
I am aching with laughter and I'm only halfway through!😂😂
What a wonderful Dame Edna montage! Rest peacefully, our Edna!
Absolutely brilliant. I laughed so hard I was wheezing…. Michael Parkinson’s reaction was hilarious ongoing…..
Something that upsets me more than I thought it would - I’ll never get to see Dame Edna, Sir Les or Barry Humphries in person. Definitely an opportunity missed.
Saw the Broadway performance in NYC -- had no idea what I was seeing. By myself. Sat next to a woman in her 70s. She was alone. I was alone. We both laughed hysterically until our faces hurt and tears rolled down our cheeks. We had a beautiful night at the theater then, at the said, said our goodbyes, agreeing that this was exactly what we needed in our lives and went our separate ways. I will NEVER forget it.
@@beaellie9766 That's a really nice story.
Saw her once in the 1970's - both hilarious and terrifying. Terrifying that she might pick on me, and I'm sure everybody felt the same about themselves...a next level comic genius...
Never to be replaced
Just the very best guest anyone would be so lucky to have
We will miss the dame for sure
Stevie in Scotland
Absolutely love her sharp wit, expressive facial expressions and flamboyant personality...she was a natural anti-depressant. !!!
Nobody better, extremely funny and quick witted. RIP and thank you for the laughs.
Legend. Priceless, We miss you already Edna .
So brilliant 😢 I'm glad I saw this great talent.
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face...
Oh golly, I just adore Dame Edna. I would have loved to see her in person. Luckily we have these wonderful clips. She was so quick and could ad lib on any subject. Absolutely hilarious. What a genius.

Goodness, Dame Edna was an absolute star. Hilarious too! RIP dear!
What an adorable genius she was! Smart, witty and razor sharp! Lol
He was, he.
"He toyed with the priesthood", just peerless.
Peerless is the perfect word for Barry/Dame Edna.
Dame Edna, very funny person RIP…. Lost in time but never forgotten. God bless
I grew up watching her shows, some wonderfully funny memories RIP 💕
There is NOBODY that will be as quick witted and insanely funny as Barry Humphries. He was simply WAY WAY ahead of his time with his characters. And especially Damn Edna. It was intellectual humor in many respects you REALLY needed to pay attention to his punch lines. And he would NEVER leave you off the hook so to speak. You simply couldn't one up this man he was that brilliant with his comedy. In any case, THANK YOU Barry for ALL the cherished laughable memories you brought into our lives. You were more than just a mere comedian. But rather a brilliant educated well traveled human being that knew many things around our world that other's would never know about. God bless you and i pray your resting peacefully now. But something tells me your still creating laughter even in the after life.
* you're, not your
😊
Perfect video. The best of the best. Thank you so much for posting.
So good.......the world has lost one of its greats. Rest in peace dame Edna ❤
He'll never be matched what a classic
A great compilation, with an eclectic mix of clips, thanks for uploading. RIP Barry Humphries.
Absolutely brilliant, Such wit and timing!
All those celebrities and she outshines them all .
Just unique. Will never be equalled.
LOVE HER! HYSTERICAL!!
God bless you Dame Edna you surely were a unique person and made people laugh. Thank you for the memories you will be missed RIP❤❤❤❤❤
Such humour and wit, I literally laughed until I cried.
“Oh what a stupid noise” around 19: 40 with Martin Sheen! LMAO!!! I too thought I was going g to bust a gut laughing!! 😂🤣😂🤣
Martin Sheen almost passed out he was laughing so much
You put together some wonderful clips ForTheGigaverse. . A lot of effort went into this. Thank you so much. I laughed throughout, and I needed that.
Why thank you from the bottom of my heart , this compilation is,PERFECTION ❤❤😂😂😂😂😂 seriously Perfection
Easily one of greatest and funniest characters of all time. Dame Edna is up there with Tommy Cooper and Bob Monkhouse for laughing before they even opened their mouths.
Barry was a one off an absolute treasure.
What an amazing talent! Thanks for uploading this video. Один из самых талантливых комиков в мире. Пусть земля тебе будет пухом.
What I really love about DE is how the fellow guests are always on edge - re what is she going to say about me 😂😂🤣
That was great Penny RIP Dame EDNA he always made me smile 💙
Hilarious! Lauren Bacall look GREAT!
21 mins in second (or maybe third) section with Lenny Henry when he starts to raise his profile and the Kunta Kinte come back from Dame Edna turning Henry's own trick against him and re-establishing "herself" on top: just brilliant.
Quite the contrast: Lenny Henry, one of the worst comedians, and Barry Humphreys, one of the best.
Dame Edna was so, so, so funny.
The best therapy. I loved Dame Edna❤ Genius
RIP Parky, up there interviewing the best 🙏
You never know how much talent they have till their gone ❤
We knew long time ago.
We always knew. Rip Barry 😢
U sure about that? The guy was a legend.
More like not fully appreciated - you just thought she was going to be around for ever.
R.I.P To barry / Michael...am still crying with laughter...god bless you all..
There's something of a comic genius in that Great Dame!
Probably my favourite laugh when I feel like it. Guarantee, insanity plus. Thanks u-tube, for these amazing memories. Thanks 🙏 Bazza.
I loved this wonderful woman....
Went to one of her shows in Glasgow, it was fantastic. Sadly missed.
Barry, as a avid fan of yours ,I think you were a pure genius 😂, there’s just nobody to compare with you 😂
He gave me the thumbs up. Nuff sed 😂😂😂😂
Tom Jones was loving the chat
A COMEDIC ONE-OF-A-KIND BRILLIANT GENIUS WITH AN EVERPRESENT WIT.....JUST FABULOUS..... I CANT STOP LAUGHING ..DAME EDNA WILL BE TRULY MISSED..
I have never seen anyone get away with saying whatever they want to someone and get big laughs from them. If anyone else said these things offence would be taken. Absolute genius delivery and timing. Pee Wee Herman and Dame Edna are two of my biggest influences in my life. You want to learn how to make people around you comfortable and like you, watch Dame Edna. There is nothing more exposed for a human than crying or laughing uncontrollably and to make a whole room do that is impressive.
I grew up with women like this. Lol. RIP Barry. Comedy genius.
we lost 2 of the funniest people ever in months Dame Edna and Lily Savage RIP to both of them
RIP to a comedy genius.
Thank goodness for CZcams which enables us to relive and enjoy these wonderful interviews, especially the Parkinson ones with Dame Judy and Sharon. I just love how they’re perched up on their chairs worried about what’s coming next. Absolute gold. Whenever I watch this it takes about 20 years off me.
Truly one of the greats
What a great compilation thank you so much!!
I am so impressed by just how incredibly elegant the great Gloria Swanson looks here...
... apparently, not...
❤ loooove it! ❤ GREAT humour, thank you for posting this!👍🙏❤️🙏 Best regards from Paris, France !
God bless barrie/Edna. Effortlessly hilarious, an icon !
A walking talking Dada masterpiece.
