Apparently, when 'Madge' (Emily Perry) retired from performing in her 90s she moved into an elderly care home in South London which was rather substandard. Upon hearing of this, Barry Humphries took it upon himself to locate much better lodgings - ultimately finding her a place at Brinsworth House, Twickenham (a residential and nursing retirement home for former theatre and entertainment professionals). She passed away in 2008, at age 100.

A very talented man in his own right. 🙂 Such was the strength of Dame Edna's character, it was actually easy to forget that it was Barry Humphries under the costume and makeup. To hear Edna praise Lily, and to have lost them both in a matter of weeks, so very sad.

Wise words from Dame Edna to Jacques about watching his manager...He had his creepy hanger-on school teacher Craig Pollack as his manager at that time.....A brilliant performance by Barry...👌

Dame Edna has great research, she is able to disarm the host and other guests with her arcane knowledge of their careers.

Our Dame Edna and our Lily Savage are floating somewhere up in the ether, having a great gossip between themselves. Two brilliant comedic talents that will be a great loss to us all.

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa is the most magnificent opera singer I have ever heard. Dame Edna also held her own. Great performance.
