Funny Allan, but I just went on about how it seems Benny Hill did all of this type of thing, with another CZcams commenter who "dare I say that Humphries is the greatest comedian of all time.", to which I suggested Hill. Being from the UK, care to comment on Benny versus Barry? Who do you believe was doing this stuff first? I guess maybe it really doesn't matter, both are very funny men. Perhaps they developed their comedy concurrently, as they were literally a world apart. And I imagine the Aussies will vote Humphries and The Brits will vote Hill. That's what I took seriously, certainly not Barry and his brilliant comedy performance illustrating casual abuse. I was found not guilty, by the way............ edit: Mr Clarke then deleted his silly accusation that Barry's performance was abuse.

I lived in London in the 1980's and I would often see Mr. Humphries on his push bike rolling around the West End. To me, Sir Les was his best act, hands down. Pure Comic Genius. RIP Sir Les.

Being a Tasmanian and a Barry Humphreys, aka Sir Les Patterson, fan from way back, I'd like to confirm Sir Les's description of the Tasmanian "continent" as being bushy and triangular in shape.
My Dad and I used to watch him all the time, my Dad saw him for the first time at a theater in Subiaco, West Australia. The guy played 5 different characters during the show and it wasn't till the end he realised it was all one guy. Much loved and talented man.
I first saw Barry Humphries live around the time this was recorded. My jaws ached with laughter. I have never laughed so much in my entire life and never will again.
Ever hear of Benny Hill? He did all of this same thing generally, and much more, and was born ten years earlier than Humphries. I watch this, and his Edna potrayal, which are quite good, but I know I've seen this before, and my mind goes right back to Benny Hill. Them being literally a world apart may explain some of the imitation aspects, but it leads one to think, who came first, the Benny or the Barry? I side with Benny, primarily because he was older. I first saw Hill, and all of his wonderful hilarity, in the late seventies on American PBS. I just caught wind of Humphries today, on CZcams. Perhaps, if I had seen Humphries 45 years ago, and Hill just now, my view would be different. Just saying...

He did four hours straight without a break and revealed many other characters besides Edna and Sir Les that I'd never seen before - these must be reserved strictly for his live stage performances. The show was brilliantly original and absolutely hilarious - never flagged for a minute. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the greatest comedy genius of all time.
My parents saw him some time before that and showed me his Sandy Stone performance on TV. My god, such finesse and timing! I've never seen it since, but just found it here: K8eJyfB_Gi4 -- VERY excited to see it again :)
