The Two Ronnies - "Your Nuts, Milord" "Fork 'Andles" & "Squash" - three CLASSICS!

  • My favourite is "Squash" - but "Fork 'Andles" is the classic. Written by Ronnie Barker under a pseudonym, it was one of many pieces attributed to "Gerald Wiley" - even Ronnie Corbett didn't know who Gerald was. But everyone found out - when "Fork 'Andles" won an AWARD!

One of the best ever. It helped explain why my wife left me. She taught me how to play a game she played all of her life of 60 years. After loosing a couple of games, I started wining, and boy, she never liked that. So I had to play dumb and loose a few to keep her happy. Then she got cocky and asked for a contest first to 20 games. I beat her hands down, and 3 days later she called me a cheat lol. A few months later she was gone. True story. The irony? Never been happier on my own. Loneliness is one thing, but loneliness in a marriage is a whole different ball game. So yes, understand why little Ronnie got upset lol.

The Four Candles sketch was based on a real event in a hardware shop. The staff in the shop had a customer who came in asking for four candles but was asked how many fork handles he wanted? They cleared up the misunderstanding but thought the incident would make a good sketch on the Two Ronnies. They wrote to them about it and the two Ronnies liked the idea so much that they had it expande out into the sketch that is a comedy legend. It was the only sketch they ever created that was based on a suggestion from a viewer.

But the best example of this humour i heard of was one of the old hands at my father's building firm sending the new boy to the local garage for a "pint of comprehension", the garage-man (who hadn't been warned) caught on and asked "Have you brought the dry water?" Of course he hadn't, so he had to walk back to the store again.
