  • Can a successful scientist be self-taught? On this episode of ID The Future, host @Andrew_McDiarmid concludes his conversation with Forrest M. Mims about his new memoir Maverick Scientist: My Adventures as an Amateur Scientist. Without a college science degree, Mims taught himself the fundamentals of engineering and atmospheric science that fueled an impressive career in science and technology.
In Part 2, Mims talks about how he got connected to the intelligent design community after a very public dust-up with America’s oldest magazine, Scientific American. Instead of derailing his career, the Scientific American episode actually opened the door to opportunities in atmospheric science. Mims talks about the time he proved NASA wrong on their measurements and why he still consults for NASA today. He shares details of his research conducted at the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii. He explains why his skepticism on Darwinian evolution is a non-issue for practically every scientist he works with. And he’s got some sage advice for young people interested in becoming amateur scientists. Hint: it involves putting your phone away and doing something!
This is Part 2 of a two-part conversation.
In Part 1, Mims shared about his coming of age in the silicon era, including early exploits as a young inventor and experiences as a science writer.

God bless you Forrest. God bless you Andrew. Praise God for giving Forrest the gift of inquiry into HIS creation - aka science!

Hi to Forrest. I did some electronic kit work with my father for Tandy back in the 70's. I remember him kindly mentioning your name as we worked on the kit development. I am passing these links on to my father, Franklin Swan Sr. I'm sure he will be pleased to get these updates!

    33:53 An excellent cook?
I think I would call her a chef.
A cook will follow instructions whereas a chef is creative and understand the science he is describing.

It's not that evolution just misses the mark to be true, evolution is a total non-starter which can be shown to be impossible in a few sentences. Here goes: genotype always precedes phenotype, which means that before a new feature can appear or an existing one improved, the genetic code to make that possible must already exist. Code doesn't write itself as far as new features are concerned, and where we must start from scratch. For improvement of an existing feature, mutations (mistakes) will never improve existing code to deliver the improved version of the feature.
The above is enough to show evolution cannot be true.
Darwin's smallest unit of change was a body part, specifically the beaks of Galápagos finches. He had no idea how they changed in response to the environment. Darwin knew nothing about genes. Gregor Mendel was a contemporary of Darwin and his book appeared about five years before Darwin's, and there's no evidence that Darwin ever read it. So, Darwin did not know that the superficial changes he saw started at a level he knew nothing of. Darwin built his theory, not knowing anything about the foundation on which the changes he needed rest. Ignorant of essential knowledge, Darwin just speculated.
