Why does it seem America is the only nation with Stolen Valour?. Perhaps it is because Americans sickly glorifies the military, even though most if not all are volunteer.

    • @LabRat10101
      @LabRat10101 Před 3 lety +6

@Ambient I think its not as simple as not wanting to do training. It's the sickly obsession Americans has with their military. Many if not all of these cases seem to be mental illness. I never see this any other place in the world. I myself did a year in the Norwegian military (compulsory/drafted) as a medic but ive never seen anybody here in Norway get thanked for doing their time in service. So i find it funny that just because you serve in the military (remember Americans mostly volunteer, not get drafted) expect a thanks or respect for it.
The American obsession with the military is creating stolen valour.

My son, a disabled vet, and myself, a disabled vet, we were having a beer at a favorite place in our neighborhood and encountered one. He was a soup sandwich. First, he had on Air Force utility uniform, long hair, needed a shave two days prior, and in a bar in a field uniform after hours. He is being loud and talking like he was Audie Murphy and some mythical bad ass. I had a few beers in me so I let him have it. This bar is full of vets quite often. I told him to go home, take the uniform off, and burn it. The owner, a retired Army grunt Sgt 1st Class, asked what the issue was. He told the young puke to get out and do not come back. He was more mad than I was. My son is in a wheel chair wanted to whip him good but we stopped that. That has been my only event like that. For the life of me I do not know why these idiots do this crap.
I did what was expected of me the best I could and my back surgeries caused me to retire. I did 26 years in the Army and would do it again. My son had reenlisted and lost his lower left leg in an IED blast. He is proud to have served honorably. He loved the Army. It hurts I guess because these guys just shit on all of us by claiming achievements they never could have done. They need to be confronted. It must stop.

Riggers hate you if you pop your risers, because it makes more work for them to untangle the chute.

People who have never served don’t realize that real service members don’t like to wear the uniform when they’re not on duty. And when we travel on official govt service, we’re not allowed to travel in uniform. The only permitted wearing of uniform when traveling is when basic training graduates return home
But I used to keep a wall locker full of uniforms at my unit. I would show up civilian clothes and change into my PTs or uniform and before I went home, I changed back into my civvies. Some dudes might go to Walmart or something in their uniform on their way home but service members can’t wait to change out of their uniform when they’re done for the day. And they certainly don’t walk around on the weekends in their uniform. Unless they were on some sort of duty, why would they. As proud as I am of the uniform as a symbol, it was very much work attire and what do most people do when they’re done with work, they get out of their work attire as fast as possible
Real veterans don’t walk around in their old uniforms. I mean, I still use my ruck and some of my gear for camping. Sometimes I wear my pt shorts to the gym. At most, I’ll wear an old unit T-shirt when I work out. But I sold all my uniforms to a surplus store and kept one set just for the memories
I’ll never understand those stolen valor idiots. And they deserve everything coming to them-loss of job, loss of friends, hell even loss of wife.
What I especially hate is when a veteran lies about what they did in the military and says they were SF or some shit. I’m like dude, be proud of having been a cool or supply sgt. Every role is important in the military

After about a year of training on the reactors he will then go to sub school in Groton, CT and try to earn his gold dolphins. We are super proud of this young man!
He has had to work incredibly hard to get to this point. He took only 4 years to get through Colorado School of Mines and earn his Mechanical Engineering degree. A feat unto itself, but he wanted to serve and chose the Navy and the silent service. To get into the nuclear propulsion program he had to take a bunch of technical tests and exams then sit across the desk from a 4 star admiral and explain why he wanted into the program.
He did all of that because he felt like this was his calling. Hell, he didn't even want to wear his khaki uniform with his one ribbon and single bar on the plane to come home for a month or so. No need as his military ID is enough.
So to see these idiots doing this crap and actually experiencing one of these morons first hand, I have always found stolen valor incredibly distasteful, madding and so disrespectful. My father was also in the Navy and served during the Korean war. He was trained to hunt subs from the air and was assigned to the USS Oriskany (last minute change and he never got to go and serve on the Big O). And now that my son is part of the US military, putting in the effort and doing the work, makes it even worse for me.

But again the Courts ruled that it was unconstitutional and violated freedom of speech and expression in 2012, now it’s illegal to do all of so if you’re trying to get money and discounts and so-on.

I've found a guy in full german military uniform with hideous boots and non-matching cap. He was wearing no rank insignia, so I was assuming he was a fresh recruit (recruits of under 3 months service time don't carry rank insignias in Germany). I (2nd Lt) told him to stand at attention and asked him about the clown outfit he was wearing and wether his drill instructors told him to walk around like that. Poor guy didn't even know how to properly stand at attention. Asked him about how long he had been in the military. Turned out the poor dude was just coming home from an airsoft match. Quickly told him that he shouldn't be wearing the german flag on his shoulders (it's not allowed to wear the complete uniform with a flag as a civilian in Germany). The dude thanked me and asked me to attend his next airsoft match. He had removed the flag by then and was wearing different pants. That's how it's supposed to be. Someone who doesn't know, getting educated, changing his behavior. I've never seen someone truly impersonate an active duty soldier in Germany though... probably it's because in Germany, being a soldier isn't being honored. You are most likely to not get anyone to thank you for your service or anything like that in Germany. Chances are, that if you're seen like that in the wrong neighborhood you get spat at. It doesn't matter to us german soldiers though. We do what we do because of a sense of duty and honor, not because of recognition and I'd argue that that's the reason for every US soldier too. You don't do it to wear the uniform. You do it to serve and protect your country. I pity the idiots practicing stolen valor. They never get the true meaning of what it's all about. Kindest greetings to our American allies from overseas. We stand united.

We who have aging, military husbands, fathers etc MUST be careful when we get rid of their uniforms. My husband EARNED his Dolphins when he served as a Pingjockey aboard the Henry L Stimson...Nuc sub in Holylock Scotland...his father retired military and we have all his uniforms, medals, awards...My husbands uniform still fits him!
I was a Sheriffs Deputy back in mid 70s...but got PTSD from whatever I had to see...Flight 182 was why I turned in my badge. But whenever I left home, I covered my uniform and ONLY removed coverings when on duty. Only ONE time did I pull out my badge to arrest someone...but I just couldn't help it...was a young guy who had a special vest with pockets for stealing bottles of liquor in San Diego...grocery stores sell hard liquor...I was shopping with my 7 yr old son when I rounded a corner with my cart filled with groceries and saw him kneeling down and putting a bottle of liquor inside his vest...My son spied on him when I went around the corner, so he had several bottles inside his vest... Then he went up to the check out, got some gum...I asked him if he intended to pay for the 6 bottles of Jack Daniels he had hidden inside his vest...He said something nasty to me...and I whipped out my badge, told him he's under arrest...HE was shocked that a mid 20's woman was a cop...my son told him. "You better watch out, my mama has a 357 Smith and Wesson loaded with bullets inside her purse...so you better behave"...he crapped his shorts....The police showed up, hauled him away and I finished my shopping!...and told my son to NEVER say things like that ever again!...
In academy we learned all about those who failed to graduate...they all have same personality....carry their security badges and love flashing them...and their guns and conceal carry...they're dangerous and HEAVY handed. They're the ones who try to arrest their own moms. To the Heart of the Law and NOT to the Letter of the Law was our motto! And those Sovereign Nationals....oyeeee! They're down right crazy! I went to Canada last year to do a WWII re-enactment, before we headed out to the site for the re-enactment/living history display, my buddy and I went to a Tim Hortons for coffee and a sandwich. I had my 101st Airborn dress uniform on with the overseas cap folded in the waist belt, and he was wearing a German Luftwaffe Fallschirmjäger uniform. A young girl working there approached us as she was wiping tables off and thanked us for "(our) service". She was quite sincere, but we looked at each other and he chuckled, apologizing in a pretty Canadian fashion, "Soory dear, but this is a German WWII uniform." He tells me about all the combat he was in and it all sounded so convincing. Then he messed up and told me his age. He would have been about 12 years old to be where he said he was. I didn't say a word and let him ramble on. Even gave him a beer just to hear more. I thanked him, shook his hand and everything. I wanted to call him out the entire time. Instead I let him go on for an hour. Best lies I think I ever heard. He originally came over to buy a good used vehicle I had. Seen my POW MIA flag and tried to play my sympathies. He left without the vehicle to get money to pay for it. When he came back, I told him I sold it for more while he was gone. He was pissed. I lied too. I felt zero remorse for it either. I did sell the vehicle later, just not to a liar. Even came way down on the price.

Clothing is not illegal. Army and navy surplus stores are not in business for our military personnel. And also the individuals I know that have done military duties. Do not waste time on just somebody in clothing. Certain patches displayed or representing other significant merits or awards ir service. Wrong. The main issue is if using for gain. Then it's illegal. If I still had some of my camos. Which was usually for hunting. And was getting someone in my face. I'd ask nicely first to leave me alone. Then the little no one I am. Is not taking it. These individuals have no special rights to acost anyone. If a crime is being commuted report it. Not your job if you served or someone you know served. You are being a bully. To clarify. Unless illegal. Your being an ass to bother someone. If illegal report it and be a better gitizen- human - or the best air breather you can be.
