Great for you and Japanese bamboo artisan Mishima-san share wonderful garden bamboo-working skills with American gardeners. And welcome to our 'Mediterranean' SoCal climate region, hardiness zones 9a-11b. It is very dry and can get very hot but we still love to tend our hardier native plantings in our gardens. Awaiting for your continuing trip videos across the USA visiting the various beautiful Japanese gardens.

Looks like quite the adventure you went on in the States! I wish I could take part in an event like this. I assume since this is a North American association, that they must be present here in Canada. There are a few major Japanese gardens that I have been to in Vancouver, near Victoria, and in Lethbridge Alberta where I went to University. Looking forward to more videos, especially the one in Seattle because it is so close to where I live.

The camelias of Descanso Gardens have a dark origin. When Japanese Americans were rounded up for internment during WWII a family had to sell their entire nurseries of camelias to the founder of Descanso. It's unclear whether he took advantage of the circumstances. At least today we can enjoy peace, beauty, and cultural exchange.

    • @JapaneseGardenTV

I looked it up too and it seems to have had such a history. I felt that we can enjoy the gardens today on the basis of various histories.

I did not learn jack sh*t about building a Japanese fence from this. Darn! I was charmed by the setting in La Canada and the result od the efforts. And we did not see the other locations. Disappointing.
