- Part 3, welcome back and to the third and final episode in this 80’s review series. In this video we continue the look at Railfreight distribution and see the progress of 47 306 that has gained a few more ferry vans and is seen running with another class 47 this time 47 375 is seen with various modern vans some branded with the RFD logo and even some tank wagons, meaning this is probably a maintenance move. The 47s as usual forming the mainstay of operations long after their introduction!

Excellent video - well done Mike! 👍
As a child can remember looking forward each week to the Oor Wullie cartoon in the Sunday Post! 😄
Glad you enjoyed it, nice name for a loco lol
All that lovely Lima!! Another great video, and really well done with some of the real life class 47 recordings, it is really hard to capture some of the deep bass tones they make and you've done it. Thanks for taking the time to make it. 😀
Aww thanks very much, many of the recordings were made back in 1982 on my Sharp GF stereo recorder. Glad you enjoyed
Great 3 part video's Mike thanks 👍
Thanks Paul ☺️
Thanks Mike-This has been an excellent series.
Cheers Kev
Cheers Kev, glad you enjoyed it 😀
Great presentation Mike, very well done indeed.
An amazing professional job.😊
Thank you kindly very kind of you
Very interesting, i enjoyed all 3 parts.
Thanks Andrew that's great to hear
Loved this series Mike - more series like this would be brill 😎
Thanks very much, a few are planned 😊
Great video series. Enjoyed all three videos. Loved all the locos and rolling stock. You must have a large room to store all of your locos and rolling stock. Can't wait for your next series. Bill and Janet from California
Thanks very much indeed. So glad you enjoyed
Lovely footage and commentary Mike!
Thanks very much indeed ☺️
Great series Mike, very informative and interesting along with some nice train running.
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you 😊
Remember dangling my feet in the clay spoil river back in the day, that used to run from the pits to open sea at Pentewan, turning the sea a very strange milky blue lol. Great work Mike, enjoyed the series.
Wow, what an interesting memory thanks
Thanks for a very enjoyable watch, you have covered a period I don't know anything about. A great presentation and some new ideas for modelling. The industrial back scenes really came in to their own for this topic. I'd been looking forward to this series, thanks again.
Much appreciated! Thanks. Glad it was helpful
Well done!
Thanks very much 😊
You did an amazing job with this one Mike I'm impressed 0:26
Aww thanks that's really kind
@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited No problem Mike plus you do want a shout out
@@DennisLora2001 by all means thanks for the support
@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited Any time
Thanks for another entertaining and insightful video Mike, I did wonder what the red rectangular rail freight badge was, 50149 (049) carried this.
You’ve given me more inspiration to finally crack on with my roundy layout.
Loved the R/F running sessions , ATB Darren
Cheers Darren glad it was helpful
Lots of great looking locos shot from some excellent angles, Mike. Like you, I don't tend to weather my stock, but those 2 weathered Seacow wagons behind the Bachmann 20 looked the business.
One element I liked about sectorisation was that many locos carried depot plaques. Being a ex-South Wales chap, my favourite is the Cardiff Canton plaque. I'm very tempted to buy any loco sporting this plaque...
A fine series. Thanks for sharing your extensive collection of Lima and other diesels, as well as your Lucas vans.
Most welcome glad you enjoyed it
ive really enjoyed this series! I dont suppose one day you'd be able to do a video based on your work in and around Portsmouth? Id find it so fascinating as a local! Thanks once again for a very informative and fun to watch series!
Ohh that's a nice idea, I'd love to do it but I'd have to have some VEPs and CIGs lol
Lima really was at the top of the game back in the day! The 47 was, i think, one of the best? Its also my personal favourite class of locomotive, and I've worked on a lot of them in engineering in the 80s! My personal favourite was 47 510 Fair Rosamund for some reason? I remember the 37s with the silver bullet syphons before the advent of the GM 66s !
Agreed, ah yes I saw 47 510 a few times
Great stuff Mike, informative and fun as ever! A request though - please could we have some more of your camera shots mounted on a slower train and being passed by the subject?
Thanks very much, ah yes I like those running shots too. Will be included in the next one
Hi love this series one day could you do mini series about the different heroes of coach etc please
Thanks glad you enjoyed it. Tell me more about your idea 💡
This is all very interesting. It's filled a big gap in my knowledge. I knew sectorisation was happening but I didn't understand what it all meant.
Thanks Roderic, glad to have helped
Great series Mike, well done. The outro with everything parked up was a nice touch. A question, were all the sectors equally regarded? Like was one seen as more prestigious than another, or only top crews got on to metals for example? Again great work, god knows how long all that took to out together including servicing everything before setting up a camera
Thanks very much indeed. Yes house was in chaos for weeks during filming etc lol. As to your question it really depended on where you were. Down her distribution especially with its channel tunnel work and 92s was a big player. But in Northern counties coal and steel was king
Finally got around to watching Parts 2 & 3 - excellent job Mike, not least all the time you would have spent overlaying the sounds, top job. It adds such weight to the visuals. Coincidentally I have been watching A4s and W1 Hush Hush on Neville Grove and it is equally superb czcams.com/video/9YhcMge8cHI/video.html. I also love your notes at the end citing which manufacturers you had; I have a few Lima locos but got into ViTrains around 2010-2014 as they were good VFM and they were ex-Lima people creating them. I was out of work so had little disposable cash (read zero) so would pick them up new at £45-55 and detail / weather them. You have caused me to go and dig them all out for a bit of nostalgia :-) Talking of pricing, can totally concur with you on those HAA's; I was picking them up back then at that price too and alot of Bachmann wagons for £5-7, all new. Halcyon days. Now I kitbuild them as I have no intention of paying £30-50 for one wagon. In closing did you pick up batches of wagons back in the day ie new and eg those Haig and Lucas battery ones - they look great. Cheers Paul
Very many thanks Paul. Yes I picked up a lot back then, around the early 2000s was the best time for the hobby. I honestly feel it's gone stupid now been made something it should not be. Glad you like the sounds and yes it takes ages but does come out well, who knew back in the early 80s with my simple cassette recorder I'd be using the recordings with videos I'd made!!! I'll check out the video
@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited Yup - similar here came back into the hobby around 1995 when Hornby was on a roll into the 2000s as you say, doing Train & Coach Packs and bought most of them great times.
