- Listen, I'm just a guy who bought a F250 Super Duty with some issues. In this video we're looking at an oil leak off the front of the motor that will look like a front main or oil pan gasket leak, however it's a little simpler than that.

Just did the same thing to my 2011, thanks for the instructions! Tip for next guy: an air ratchet will make removing the fan assembly an easy job, such a pain to get at the bolts with hand tools.

Great job showing us how it’s done. Telling us what size sockets you used was very helpful, and a real time save. I’m also cheap. Why pay someone hundreds of dollars when you can get it done yourself (& take a second to add locktite & torque the bolts the right way). Now I can get this job done myself.
Thanks for the extra detail on removing the air intake. Most videos skip this step. I don’t know what I’m doing, but I can follow directions.

Thanks for the comment, without making a hour long video it's hard to cover every detail but I tried to get most of the high level steps. Good luck if you decode to do the repair, patience is key especially removing and installing that big fan bracket.

To anyone reading and wondering if they can do this, my advice would be…when taking off the fan bracket, start with the bolt on the passenger side bottom. To me, that was the hardest part. If you can get that bolt out, you should be good on everything else. It’s just hard to reach and requires the right combination of socket extensions, ratchets, breaker bars and swear words.

Appreciate the video. This is exactly what was wrong with my 2014. Two of the four bolts were backed out and could take them out by hand.
What started out as I’m probably going to have to take this to the shop, ended with a sense of self satisfaction thanks to your video.
Some music while doing the job and rewarding ice cold beverage(s) of choice at the end makes it go by faster.

@@BCDriven I’m not able to see or feel the leak anywhere but looks like it’s gotta be that vacuum pump. I already had my rear main done and both pans re sealed back at 80ish k ain’t had a drip since and I’m at 240 on a 2016 like yours. Even with 3.44 gears she pulls like a mule. Kinda cool how we have dual alternators thanks again

So here's my problem i was driving home in my 2016 F250 Diesel and all of the sudden my freaking brakes were hard to come to a stop so i freaked out and white smoke was coming out of the exhaust all at the same time!! I know my vacuum pump has been leaking for over a year now....
But does the vacuum pump failure cause white smoke to come out of the exhaust?.......

Thanks for making the video, I noticed oil on my last oil change about 5000 miles ago, just a little on the freeze looking plug on the front of the oil pan and AC compressor mount bolt and thought aww crap, now it’s more after two weeks with the next oil change and so it had me crawling under the truck today and looking behind the fan mount area, pretty sure it’s this vacuum pump gasket as the oil has wicked back toward the right cylinder head and under the egr cooler so going to order up the gasket and fan belt tomorrow and get into it this weekend it looks like before I need the truck to tow my big equipment trailer soon. Thanks for the details, especially on some of the bolt lengths and steps of getting the clutch fan mount off!
Good luck with it, once you get into it its not as bad as it seems. Once you get that fan out if the way its pretty smooth sailing but that fan can put up a fight lol like another person commented, a battery or air ratchet would help a lot as some of those bolts dont have much room to turn a standard ratchet. Obviously it can be done with manual tools too just like I did here.
@@BCDriven got all the parts today, gasket, belt and some idler pulleys incase their on their way out while I m in there, we’ll see how it goes this weekend, need to remember to bring my air racket home this weekend!

As a guy who sits behind a desk during the week and only turns wrenches on the weekends, I could knock this out in 2-3 ish hours if it wasnt for videoing it. Definitely not and 8 hour job and definitely not that difficult to do.
I want to thank you for the information. I have a 2016 with 54k miles and noticed the oil in my driveway. Took it to the dealer and he said one of the bolts was missing and the others were loose. i had to tell him it was still under warranty, since the diesel engine is warranted for 8 years or 80k miles.

Where did you see the 6.7 powerstroke engine warranty is 8 yrs or 80k miles. All I info find says 5 yrs or 80k... mine has 78k miles but is 7yrs...so need your help if possible to fit the dealer to do for free.😊

I bought the Ford extended warranty, and Ford is covering mine, along with the backup camera and the power mirror motor.
Good to hear warranty covered it. Evidently the backup camera is another common failure as mine has went out as well.

They forgot to tighten those bolts down but put blue lock tight on the bolts that hold down the plastics below the windshield 🤦♂️. Thanks for the video. I’m gonna be tackling this soon as mine is leaking from the bottom bolt
Yeah they did some questionable things on these trucks, hope the video helps you out.

Either way you go hope you get it squared away. It wasnt a hard process, just a little aggravating getting to some of the bolts.

Everything went as explained pretty simple, not alot of space to play with. If you don't have the little china man hands. Freaking dread the oil leaks on these diesels my 6.0 costed me thousands from the main bearing to my bed plate leaking pain in the rear
There were definitely times I had to hold my tongue just the right way to get a bolt in or out lol Glad you got it all worked out.
Hey bud so did the fix is it normal still get a dimple of oil bout ran her 1k on some miles today hauling some weight maybe was thinking some oil that sat up in the spots or residual coming down from the leak what do you think
@@dylanreed2474 I was getting a drip for a day or two after so I shot some engine degreaser up there and rinsed it down and didnt have any issues afterwards.

Have a 2012 f250 with the 6.7 Changed oil other day and it was jello, had a knock on bottom of motor after adding additional oil that went away ,And now the top passenger side is knocking ,Not a death knock but a
Concerned knock, unsure if it’s fuel or oil related
Is it a knock or more of a tick? My 6.7 always ticked after oil changes and was evidently super common. Google 6.7 oil change tick.

Great video! Just bought my 16’ and it’s leaking. Thankfully I just bought it used 10 days ago and was getting under the truck to change the fuel filter. Glad I did and noticed the leak.
Did you have to torq the fan clutch mount?
I mean yeah I'm sure there's a torque spec that should be followed but I just went with the tight, but not too tight method lol

hello, can you please tell me if you ever know on a 6.7 front crank shaft seal replacement ( did it the right way) the seal still leaking, the mechanic said, it happens because the crank shaft is moving back and forward, do this happens to you ever?
I'm not super familiar with that issue, but I could see a slight bit of movement on the crank if the thrust bearings were worn or damaged but I would think a new seal would still take care of the leak. The crank might have gotten scarred removing the old seal or the seal might have gotten torn when installing it. Good luck with it either way, hopefully you get it figured out.

Hey thanks. Can you just tighten the bolts without tearing things apart? Assuming no alternator in the way.
I think you can get barely get the top 2 if you hold your tongue the right way, but not the bottom 2 because that bracket that the fan is on blocks them. Problem being that its usually the bottom ones that leak with gravity and all. Don't hold me to it but thats what I remember.
You can take the belt and bracket off and just tighten the pump bolts without taking the pump off but that fan bracket is what puts up the most fight not so much the pump.
I removed only the two accessible bolts near the top, which were both loose. Sprayed brake cleaner in the holes and used blue loctite when I reinstalled them. That can all be done without removing any other parts. It slowed my oil leak enough that I never got around to doing it right like you did.

It looks like your dipstick reads like mine; always looks over, even after a fresh change.
The oil always crept up and thinned out, I just figured it was some fuel blow by since the truck had so many miles on it.
Good video on air pump seal replacement. How long did it take to complete job? Thx.
For me it was about 3-4 hours, BUT I'm not a fast worker, I was trying to video it, and I really didn't have a clue what the correct order of operations was. Plus it was particularly hot that day so I was taking water breaks frequently. I'm not a professional mechanic, just a home gamer. I would say someone more prepared that is a faster worker could knock it out in an hour or two.

Whats the anticipated time for the repair? Did you put a new belt on while you had it off? Im at 119K and have this issue to fix.
If you had your tool cart loaded up, a decent place to work on it, and were a pretty decent mechanic I could see a person knocking this out in 2 hours give or take a bit. That being said I think I had closer to 5 hours in mine due to running in and out of the garage for tools, camera stuff, and water/ AC breaks. A lot of my time was wasted trying to get the camera set in a place where you could see what I was doing or setting in the AC cooling off. (I have a desk job for a reason)
Also I didn't change the belt but It honestly could have used it, it had a very slight bit of cracking when flexed over. That was a planning failure on my part, I just forgot to get the belt.

Do you have to drain the motor oil to perform this job? I’m wondering if the oil will leak out.
Less than a half a quart might come out but draining the oil won't prevent it from coming out. This is above the oil level of the motor so its really just the little bit sitting behind the pump that comes out.

i tried to just retorque it and still had a leak, so i had to fully pull it apart any ways
Some people get lucky with it and some dont. I just figured since I was gonna be elbow deep anyways I might as well pull it apart. Did you replace the gasket or just clean it up and reseal it?
@@BCDriven i replaced the gasket and put permatex on the threads so the bolts wont come loose again because i did not want to use Loctite for obvious reasons

No you do not. A small amount might spill out if you have started the truck recently but its less than half a quart at most.

Yeah the turbo problems are usually associated with the eadlier models but ill of them seem to have this damn oil leak lol
And if the oil leak is on the back side of the motor you have to pull the transmission to fix it. WTF!!!!!

Ford has been a dumpster fire for the last 5 decades. That would be the last day a 3 or 4 year old truck would leak oil on my concrete driveway.
Oddly enough that was the last day it leaked oil in my driveway lmao $13 gasket and a few hours of labor are really no big deal to me. I really like the 6.7 powerstroke over the all the Duramax trucks I drove. They all had way more giddy up on my butt dyno.
