  • I hope you enjoyed the second season of the Netflix Castlevania series as much as I did. As a longtime fan of the Castlevania games, I enjoyed searching each episode for hints, references, and easter eggs that related to games I grew up playing. In this video, I will break down 27 of the easter eggs and references I found, both in reference to the Castlevania games and other media. Let me know if you noticed something I missed, or if I got something wrong.

    Nice to see you catch a lot of the details in this season.
    There are some things you missed or forgot to mention: Carmilla also shows up as one of the antagonists in Circle of the Moon, and the Fire Drake is actually a representation of the first boss in Rondo of Blood. Another thing is that there is a "pork chop in the wall" reference in episode 7; it is easy to miss, but you can barely see it during the scene where Alucard and Dracula fight each other from room to room. When they get to the room where Godbrand was taking a nap, pause it and you can just barely see the pork chop (or chicken) at the bottom left corner of the screen where it's just camping in the wall.

      I'm not insulting the quality of Castlevania. It's just technically not anime. The term is literally _defined_ by having originated from Japan. Castlevania is an _amazing_ animated show based on a Japanese IP. By definition, it isn't anime because it was produced, directed, storyboarded, and animated (key framed most likely) by folks in the west.
      That being said, I still agree with you! Castlevania holds up to even the best anime; and, along with Lastman, is hopefully a sign of a new rise in mature western animation.

    • @FightingDuskstalker
      @FightingDuskstalker Před 5 lety +27

      Hm... jumping straight into SotN would be difficult. You can't get away with not telling Richter and Maria's story, since Richter is the supposed "master" of the castle, and Maria's looking for him. You could probably get away with doing that in flashback, but going "Dracula came back, then died, then came back again" all in one season just wouldn't work.

    • @Just4Fun-Zocker
      @Just4Fun-Zocker Před 5 lety +2

Starting the season with Richter fighting and defeating Dracula, probably with some help from Maria so the audience knows what it needs to know. Could be the complete first episode. Basically the same way they did it in the first season. The first episode was all about Dracula and Lisa and just introducing a drunk Trevor at the end. I'm pretty sure the Soma Cruz story is meant for a later season and not put in one season with Symphony.

    • @smward87

      hd4011 Well to briefly cover them, Soma is the main character of Aria and Dawn of Sorrow and he is the mortal reincarnation of Dracula in 2035 after Julius Belmont permanently defeats him and banishes his soul in 1999. Alucard is also still present at this time, now going by Genya Arikado and posing as an eccentric Japanese billionaire because he knows that Dracula's soul wasn't permanently destroyed like everyone thought and that it would eventually find a new host and it just happened to all go down in Japan. Finally there's Yoko Belnades who is another supporting character, who is a direct descendant of Sypha obviously. So there's definitely plenty to work with and direct ties to the characters present in the show. In Dawn of Sorrow as well there is a bonus mode where instead of playing as Soma, you play as Alucard, Yoko, and Julius in the same tag team style used in Castlevania III. So there's that to consider to draw even more parallels.

    • @alejandrodiazfrancia1562

      There's a huge hole in the story, on Sorrow saga they talk about the 1999 war, which was the "biggest" fight against Dracula ever, in which Julius Belmont loses his memory, later while Soma explores the castle, he finds him and after getting his memory back, fights him to prove Soma's will

    The bestiary/collection cabinet was one of my favorite ones. All the episodes when they're in the hold have sooo much content from the games if you look hard, not that the rest of the series doesn't, but seeing all of that in one area in that context was a clear sign that they knew their stuff. So many of the videos that people have made on this series are from people that have no idea what the actual timeline or story is and just start throwing random game/story references around that make no sense. You clearly did your proper research before making this video, and it shows. I'm sure all the other long time fans appreciate it as well. Great work.

    8:58 this is probably late, but that blind monster actually may be that corrupt priest that Trevor blinds in Season 1. He whips his eye out in episode 2, then gets his other eye shot out by an arrow in episode 4.

      I think, to make Simon work.
      You have Castlevania happen in a single episode, where he mostly brags about himself while defeating Dracula's minions,to get us to understand the cockyness of young Simon, he fights Dracula, getting him cursed and then use Simon's quest for a couple more episodes. Since in that he interacts with several people in towns it's easier to make dialog.
      or maybe start with simon's quest, and have his first battle be a flashback.
