Castlevania is a long standing franchise that Komani has let sit and do nothing. The Castlevania anime adaptation could be a hope to revitalize the entire franchise.

Castlevania is one of the oldest and most impactful video games of all time. It's franchise has span decades, yet more recently Komani has failed to produce anything of note for the Blemonts, Dracula, or any other vampire. Yet, the Netflix Castlevania anime (if you want to call it an anime) is arguably the best video game show or movie adaptation ever made. And with it, the creators have shown there's still plenty of lore within and outside of the canon to create new and interesting stories to tell. This Castlevania video has been a long time coming, so let's talk about a dead franchise and how the show many finally bring it back to life.

We never would have been able to do this without our patreon support enabling us to hire editors. Thanks to them and you! I love this show. As a fan of the games, I didn’t mind some of the changes and I enjoyed how well the story went down, how great the animation was and how pretty my boy Alucard is in the show. Hell, this show made me appreciate Trevor and Sypha. Simon, Ritchter and Soma steal the show, but this series made Trevor a fan favorite to more than just Castlevania die hards. I had friends from college ask me about the games and where to get them cause they all got into it with the show. It sucks that Konami, as usual, is the worst and doesn’t do anything good with this franchise. Fuck those godawful pachinko machines and fuck Konami. Castlevania’s Netflix series showed it can still be relevant and beloved by old and new fans. Someone needs to save Castlevania from Konami.

I still have hope for Castlevania making a proper comeback, with or without Konami... Hopefully without Konami, cause they suck.

The fact that the way Castlevania portrails monsters of European Folklore as a fusion of Dungeons & Dragons Bestiaries and Yokai Demons is a perfect amalgam of my favorite types of Monster Dynamics. And this franchise and the animation captured it perfectly. The demons and monsters have so much personality and each feels incredibly unique even on the Animation budget. Even the simplest ones like Goblins feels like a dreadful threat. And later on, iconic abominations and bosses manifest. The way they did Buer was specially my favorite.

Igarashi doesn't hate Circle of the Moon. That's a misconception.
The development team didn't consider the canon and it didn't fit with what was planned at that time, so they removed it all together.
And the criticism was more about improving for the next title, which was Harmony of Dissonance.
For example Aria of Sorrow didn't have an upgrade system for souls - which was added to Dawn of Sorrow.

Some of my first horror movies were the classic Hammer films featuring Dracula and other classic monsters. In the late 80's I was consuming Near Dark, Life Force, Monster Squad, The Hunger, and last but not least The Lost Boys. Buffy came along in the 90's, and thankfully Hellsing arrived before Twilight took us down that particular path. Castlevania games, even a few sessions of Vampire: The Masquerade. And the next step afterwards would be Portrait, where Charlotte is slinging around nearly all the power of Maria and Sypha.

Castlevania is probably my favorite game series ever, discovering it in like October last year by the getting the collections on Xbox and playing the through the masterpiece that is Symphony of the Night was so much fun. The show was incredible and one of the best animated series ever.
I’ve even thought of game ideas that could bring back the franchise, and my favorite would be basically a game with 4 games within it. A Simon campaign, a Trevor campaign with the squad back (especially Grant), a Richter campaign and a Julius Metroidvania that would give what everyone who played Aria and Dawn of Sorrow wanted.

Back then konami had these two studios that made castlevania games, one in tokyo (KCET) and one in kobe (KCEK). The team at kcek made castlevania 64, legacy of darkness and circle of the moon. That games that the team made were always meant to be elseworld stories and not part of the main canon. When portrait of ruin was being developed, both teams were fused, and they released a timeline that had circle of the moon in it because Iga wanted, but it was taken off later because the people that worked at the game wanted it to remain non-canon and asked Iga to remove it, so order of ecclesia was put at a similar place at the timeline.
I believe that Iga clarified that in a video where he watched romscout speedrun symphony of the night, but it might've been some other video.
