The Best Go-to Mountain Bike Trail in SoCal, El Prieto!

- It's been a minute since I last filmed a ride on El P! This is hands down one of my favorite trails to ride right outside of LA! I also FINALLY got the new GoPro Hero 12. I was having so many issues with the GoPro Max lens for mountain bike use, I finally gave up on it, haha. It's still an awesome action cam for snowboarding though, just not the best option for mountain biking in my opinion.

El Prieto is such an awesome fun trail, worth hitting at least once, maybe twice, or 3 times or 4.... lol. Awesome riding!
It really is! Thank you!
Nice video! :) Fun Fact: 20+ years ago, the section between Brown Saddle and the start of El P was a fire road that was accessible by jeep/truck from Millard Canyon. Lack of maintenance, and the relentless slow crumbing of the San Gabriel Mountains, has turned it into the singletrack we have today.
Super interesting! Thank you for sharing that!
i assume it was also a jeep/truck road going up Bown Mtn to the saddle? I see bits of asphalt in places as I ride up. .
@@mitchclem3404 Correct. I'm not sure when it was paved, but it definitely was at some point. Forest Service maintenance stopped decades ago. Minor maintenance done recently is by local folks.
Great trail & the video & audio were very clean. Video just a touch dark but, still great great job ! 👍
Thank you for the feedback! I’m still trying to tweak some settings, so will work on trying to fix that!
Crushed it! I remember my first time going down it I had no clue it was a Black Diamond haha. Even to this day the trail kicks my butt somehow! You were flying!
That trail looks like a blast. Just enough to keep you on your toes. Nice job...!
Definitely! It’s a blast though!
I saw the first video of you at El P, and now this one. Your riding has improved so much! It’s inspiring!
Thank you so much!!
Looks awesome, and some good riding! Is there a way to do this as a (safe) loop? I see people doing it down then back up, but I prefer not to climb it back up in case of oncoming traffic
we’re all set to ride here tomorrow again ! great video! 😎
Have a blast!!
great video! living your best life! love it
Thank you!!
Good riding morgan!
Thank you!!
Nice ride! That is one of my favorite trails.
Me too! Always a blast to ride!
Exelent riding, no many can do that trail! and thank you for sharing, now I am itching to ride it soon. One little piece of advise, the best way we have to communicate with hikers is a bell, it really works leetting them know we are coming giving them plenty of time to make room for us, and also helps to scare away any wild animal (I run into a bear in this trail a couple years ago before getting a bell for mtb)
Thank you! Ah yeah, I used to always ride with a bell on me, but I stopped using one when I have my camera rolling. I tried it on a couple of videos a long time ago and thought it was probably too annoying for people to listen to when they watched the videos, haha.
Good riding, you're smooth! Just a little less braking over the waterfall and other chunky sections will smooth it out for you even more. That left hander drop-roller switchback, you're entering at the perfect spot but roll down little tighter (more straight down) so your turn isn't so wide at the bottom. Then a quick track stand, and on you go.
El p is looking nice a green. Awesome riding morgan
It was! Thank you!
It’s like whiting ranch + the luge. I like it. Do you live close there? Can guide me?
It's a blast! Ah, I wish I still lived close by!
Is El prieto all downhill?
It is! There are a few pedally sections, but overall it’s all downhill.
@@MorganBishopp how well does your bronson climb ?
Seems very green for October?🤠
This was back at the end of September, but it was pretty green!!
The very wet winter is still oozing out of the rocks. This is a little unusual.
That's a sketchy trail, so much that I'm not sure I'd call it fun. Nice riding!
Haha, I used to have a love hate relationship with it!
Good job for not knowing the trail. I would consider it a “Go-to” or a “must ride” trail. It’s a little overwhelming for new riders and people who don’t want to deal with the exposure and be around hikers, especially on the holidays and weekends. Personally I love riding it during the week and at night. Again this for people who know the trails and have experience riding tech.
I know the trail, been riding it for years! Definitely one of my favorites near the LA area!
you made it look way too easy
