Jason was an animal…pure energy, force, anger. He is the second reason I became a Metallica fan. He kept Metallica alive after Cliff’s death.
A Lion, you mean 🦁 😂
Shame they took the piss out of him
6:00 lone headbanger in the crowd at bottom left..long live u badass
I saw that. Fucking awesome. Back in May I took my fiance to her first Judas Priest show. It was in Biloxi. Whole show I was headbanging my ass off. Hair flyin everywhere. I'm in the zone and she grabs me and yells "LOOK!" I was on the jumbotron. She said they had me on there for about 5 minutes going nuts. She has it on her phone. She said she didn't tell me sooner because I was into it. I saw it on her phone and everyone else on their phones not doing shit was like "FUCK" LOL. So yeah...fucking kudos to thst lone headbanger.
Kevin Scarborough good on you. Too many statues at concerts. Must be hard for the bands even like Priest , Metallica and Maiden. I wish people would enjoy the show and take in the moment they paid to see. Then buy the DVD or watch on the band CZcams channel.
@@thomasskeffington4539 bigger the band, less headbangers, not always the case, but quite often.
@@kevinscarborough9982 haha! Thats so funny!
I remember like 15 yrs ago I was at a bar and there was this rock cover band playing live music. I headbanged my fucking brains out the entire show. Also jumping around and doing some solo power walking. I was having the time of my life. But no one else was doing shit! I think I was the normal one there. Anyway, after the show, I was exhausted, sweaty and smelled like sewer when the drummer came to me and thanked me for doing all that aforementioned stuff. We both laughed and had a drink together. Fun times! You just dont stand at a rock concert!
1991 was such a strong live year for them, maybe the best ever. Just incredible performances all around!
and an amazing album as well
92 was good for performances too until James' voice started to go to hell
Exactly, but 1992, 1993, 1994 were also great. 1995 was a big change, but still great. 1996 - another big change, but still pretty good. 1997 nothing like 1991, but still very good. And so on....
I still think 86' (last year with Cliff alive) and then 88'-89' (Justice Tour years) were the best, I like The Black Album and think for almost any other band would be one of their best but for Metallica and all their Greatness it just wasn't nearly as good as their first 4 albums IMO
matured
Jason's headbanging. One of the heaviest things in the planet!
So heavy!
Indeed! Marked my existence!! And i believe many more!
Sorry to sound pedantic but did you mean 'on the planet'
That's why he left Metallica...
The Justice album was one of my dads favorite albums ,besides the 3 first albums they made , and maybe also the black album, my father and i would bond over Metallica because the band was both our favorite bands. He died last year on easter. And its never the same without him, but when i listen to Metallica, i feel his presence and the bond we had.
Love you dad forever. God rest your soul.
Amen to that. Stay safe, brother, I hope for all the best for you.
5:17 The silence, followed by the crowd continuing without the music and James' laugh through gritted teeth, LONG LIVE METALLICA!
3:01 this will always hit you like a heavy punch to the face. Fucking love it.
At 1:48 first LOL
Never go through a metal detector with Jason

Metallica at the turn of the decade was like a beast. Something out of mythology. Indescribable, really
@@Vino_zx1zero go watch "Harvester of Sorrow Live (Moscow 1991)" and you shall see
Demonia Negro James voice was godly at that point, Jason was a fucking beast, Lars used to put his 150% into every song and sounded insanely good. Overall their live perfomances at the time were just insane. Metallica at their prime no questions asked.
and kirk was alright, this is when he started to mess up
The live shows were actually difficult to process as a non-desensitized 14-year old. Too incredible to grasp, like wtf am i even experiencing.
@@Vino_zx1zero They were more powerful and aggressive than any other band, they had pure energy.
Jason is so fucking great bass player...love his aggression \m/

There was a small window of time after the Black Album was released for a few months in 1991 where James had the same sounding voice from the Justice Tour. In late 1991 it started to get a bit deeper, perhaps from the long shows the guys were doing and the wear and tear on his vocal cords. This Donington Show is clear example of James with the Justice voice. Another example is the 1991 Moscow Monsters of Rock Show.
I love when people point out all remaining vestiges of the almighty Justice Jaymz voice!!
Spot on.
James voice started sound worse at The begining of 92
He sounds better here than Seattle 1989.
And he is a better singer now than he was back then. More variety in his vocal techniques.
But as far as James sounding like he did then. It's just a different voice even when he does the original distortion.
Yeah the vocals here are insane. The rest of it kind of sounds a mess to me, but as soon as the vocals kick in, it's like "Holy shit". I liked the vocals at the Freddie Mercury tribute 9 months after this too.
Jason is the man. My inspiration for playing bass and they way I perform on stage. I miss him so. Easily my nr one bassist for Metallica
Hey, I even copy his trademark hairstyle, despite playing guitar - and not bass -, and despite being a gal :Đ I think this says something :Đ
Huh?
They used to have a dude named Cliff.
He was pretty good too...
🙄
Jason had this energy, but yeah Cliff the best
Great Showmen, lots of Energy, always giving 100% on Stage
@@evilarchy1984 He said Jason was his number one bassist. Jason was with Met at their absolute live and commercial peak. Especially for fans who were introduced to the band through the Black Album, he *is* the Metallica bassist.
Jason’s headbanging at 1:48 is awesome
Jasons bass play, backing vocals and headbanging....I miss you Jason
Harvester of Sorrow, Language of the mad!!! 🤘🤘🤘

Holy shit, James sounds incredible. I think his best live performances came from like 1988 to 1992 and this may be the best I've ever heard him. On part with Moscow 1991.

"are you having a good time?" is THE NUMBER ONE cliche and MOST MORONIC WORDS ever uttered on a stage by any performer. That's why most of them utter this IDIOT cliche: they are not smart.
It always kills me when Hetfield goes 100% moron.
(I only liked the ARTSY Metallica that smashed cliches, on Master Of Puppets and Ride The LIghtning. I think Cliff was the cliche police in the band.)
Metallicas best time in my opinion. And his voice... Godlike!

There simply has never been--and never will be--a better metal bass performer than Jason Newsted. It doesn't matter who was more technically proficient as a bass player, when Jason was onstage, he owned it.

From 89 to 94 I got to see them 5 times. Ironically in 89 they were ending the show with Breadfan, by 93 they were opening with it. Man I miss those days

Once upon a time Metallica was untouchable!
Derek Miller, With all due respects paid to you- I love and respect Metallica madly, but to presume they bring that energy that they did in the late 80’s early 90’s is simply false.
Those vocals (as in those days) you will never hear it again..That’s coming from a man that has James Hetfield as his favorite musician (of ANY) genre. Over the top light shows and fireworks help with their presentation today, but from a lifelong fan that was fucking there in those days and last August - it’s a profound difference. Again, I’m not hating on them- I love them..but they are not the level that they once were man.
Thank you so much for this footage ❤❤❤❤

Metallica at there very best , I remember this era , they were unequalled , each at there instrument with such passion , James sung with such depth & attitude , Lars was still playing as if his life depended on , Kirk’s leads expressed such groove , Jason’s torch , leading the fray with metal attitude , those where the days 🤔
I was here with my two mates. We were all aged 15. You wouldn’t be allowed in an event like this at that age these days. We travelled to Donington from Liverpool on a coach. Such a beautiful song.
kinda funny how the guitars are just ever so slightly out of tune with each other...
'Though I would still kill to go see this concert
It got worse by the end of the song.
floyd rose 24.75 scale Les Paul... obviously that shit would go out of tune and maybe james used 10-46, he now uses 11-48 cuz 10's would go out of tune with his hands
Kirk's guitar wasn't a Gibson Les Paul, it's an ESP Kirk Hammett KH-3 Spider. It's equipped with a German-made Floyd Rose Original. It wouldn't go out of tune so easily. And Kirk was never that hard on the bar either so...
I imagine it's just a failure on the guitar techs part.
Thomas Parker most likely
