As a Navy veteran, I concur that this is exactly what they think. You join the Navy or the Air Force primarily because it is mostly just traveling and office work and they don't usually see combat. The Navy just transports Marines, and all you have to do is clean up after them.

Join the military or…well, I not ever heard of an alternative. Seems to be a Yankee thing. Most step relatives are in the military and I was advised to join (because my vet stepparent felt I had behavioral issues). It is not like Turkey where they have their youth serve a year to look tough. Most people who join in the states are actually going through it at home.

It is not like Turkey where they have their youth serve a year to look tough. Most people who join in the states are actually going through it at home.
