The best part of this is that George Lucas always intended the Empire to represent the US (despite the clear Nazi German uniforms, stormtroopers, chancellor, etc.). The Ewoks represent the Viet Cong (maybe mildly racist but the point is that the native population destroys the imperial occupier with guerrilla tactics). This is what escapes a lot of people today, especially those who criticised Andor for portraying the Empire as ’being all about Trump.’

I can definitely see it being slightly racist but I think the implication was more so supposed to be that like the vietcong army they were much less powerful in terms of fire arms yet had superior tactics that allowed them to defeat the not only technologically advanced enemy but also the much stronger enemy if that makes sense. It is fucked up regardless to basically compare anyone to an animal like creature though, then again for that time period I'd say that's the least racist depiction possible lol.

the poverty draft is so true. in my uni i was almost convinced to join the military bc they promised to pay my tuition, dont have to worry about meals, beds anything like that and EVEN earn more money for myself if i continue on or stop. but my friends and i were thinking over it and we realized its not a bad deal but the deal makes you stay a lot longer than what you plan to

It could be a good thing but building the port would take forever to build relatively speaking. We need aid in NOW and instead of forcing Israel to let aid in, we’re virtue signaling by building a port which won’t help the *current* situation at all.
Secondly I believe the port was Netanyahu’s idea but don’t quote me on it. If it’s true than it gains validity to the theory that he plans to take all of Gaza himself and kick Palestinians out. And having a port in Gaza would be pretty useful for Netanyahu and it’s a pr win for the states. Again, all speculation on my part though.

As a Navy veteran, I concur that this is exactly what they think. You join the Navy or the Air Force primarily because it is mostly just traveling and office work and they don't usually see combat. The Navy just transports Marines, and all you have to do is clean up after them.

My uncle joined the navy because my great grandma was Catholic, light skin and living in Montclair, New Jesery during the fifties/sixties and she was not sure what to do with her teenage son getting a chick pregnant…so she gave him a choice. Join the military or…well, I not ever heard of an alternative. Seems to be a Yankee thing. Most step relatives are in the military and I was advised to join (because my vet stepparent felt I had behavioral issues). It is not like Turkey where they have their youth serve a year to look tough. Most people who join in the states are actually going through it at home.
