i am a student protestor attending one of the universities included in this video. it was as inspiriting as it was harrowing. we got so so sooo much support- the turnout was immense- and not once did the fervent chanting nor the torrid drum beats cease. but it was frightening! the protest was ENTIRELY peaceful until the militant police stoked the flames of violence. i was there the entire time, from the time we arrived until the police forced us out, so i know. throughout the day we occupied the center of campus with chanting and speeches and the like. campus police stood across from us intent on menacing. the university issued a dispersal order and advised that anyone remaining on campus is subject to arrest. municipal officers fully suited in riot gear arrived in the early afternoon, with several helicopters swarming overhead. they arranged into some sort of formation and charged at us, forcing most of us out of the center of the protest area and surrounding the perimeter. many remained and were subsequently arrested one by one, while the rest of us protesters surrounded the police and the area and continued our demonstration; this continued until the night. upon nightfall, police steadily herded us towards the main exit of the university campus by marching then charging then marching then charging. once we were forced out, they locked the gate, and someone in front of me was shot with a rubber bullet- they had even threatened to use tear gas, though thankfully they did not. how merciful of them. it was terrible. the reprisal on behalf of the university and law enforcement was terrible. it cannot even be considered a reprisal since we had done nothing worthy of retaliation- their's was an act of unsolicited hostility and terror. the sole thing which uplifts me about it is the exceptional amount of support that was shown and continues to be shown. we had so many people come out that day, which has only breathed new life into our movement; we will not yield!

The excessive use of violence from the BPD and the fact that they only told one side of the alleyway that arrests were starting-it took 12 minutes for the alley to be cleared and blood had to be power washed from it when the sun rose. I was lucky enough to not get arrested, but Emerson is a tiny college, and approximately 2% of our entire undergraduate student body was arrested in one night. I was standing next to the first protester that got arrested at UT on Wednesday. They arrested him even after the protester, a PSC leader/organizer, told the entire crowd to peacefully disperse. Out of the dozens of arrests I saw, most of the students had been randomly snatched by law enforcement for the simple act of standing in place and chanting on public university land. They planned to march from the campus gym to the UT Tower. They hoped to launch an occupation/encampment on the main lawn, intended only to last until the end of the day. The schedule contained study breaks, guest speakers, teach-ins, an art workshop, and free pizza for everyone.
Within minutes of the protest beginning in the gym plaza, dozens upon dozens of University Police, Austin PD, and State Troopers started rolling into Speedway - dozens in riot gear. They arrived on bikes, motorcycles, massive horses, and on foot. I watched one Trooper on a motorcycle reach to the back of his motorcycle to pull out a large, thick baton. He held it up and started laughing before putting it away with a smile. Troopers on horses took a selfie together.
The march began, and law enforcement surrounded them from the front and the back. They were already being told to disperse. Students stood locked in place chanting. The march somehow continued down the corner for and stopped again. Police made an announcement telling protesters to disperse in small groups or be arrested. The Palestine Solidarity Committee’s (seeming) leader of the protest hushed the audience (they couldn’t use amplified sound) and told everyone to peacefully disperse to avoid getting arrested. People started breaking off in groups, avoiding officers who yelled and threatened. Me and a group of other journalists at UT ran through the dorms to avoid the officers and cut back onto Speedway, where people eventually began to regather in a slowly trickling march. Law enforcement followed. The situation repeats itself. Police said to disband. PSC organizer told everyone to peacefully disband. After this announcement, he turned back to the police to ask them how to direct the protesters in the right direction to ensure they actually separate.
The police encircled and arrested him, grabbing and dragging him away. Everything turned up. Protesters exploded “let him go! Let him go!” following behind the officers on their way to the police car. From that point forward, law enforcement began forceful attempts to disband the protest. State Troopers shoved into the crowd of students, “MOVE,” even threatening and pushing students along with horses. I saw two women get full-force punched in the BACK of the head by Troopers. These women were moving away, backs turned. It felt like the crowd immediately started growing as students became angry with law enforcement’s unnecessary presence on our campus. What started as maybe 200 on Speedway chanting turned into potentially double that amount screaming “OFF OUR CAMPUS.”
They began arresting people, charging at random groups of students - including people standing on the hillside looking down at Speedway. That went on for a while until students began to break off and finally regroup at the Tower and the lawn. Law enforcement followed. The story repeats until night has fallen and 57 people have been arrested.
All charges dropped as of today.

It's funny cause Abbott brought in more DPS troopers to Austin with the sole mission of enforcing law and order on 6th Street, yet now their mission goals have been extended to suppress protests, almost like this was the goal all along. Icing on the cake is that DPS literally wear brown shirts.

I was there at UT Austin. The violence was wild and, of course, one-sided. State police on horseback racing up the sidewalk towards protesters. College kids getting thrown to the ground, bound, and dragged into vans. University alarms blaring with warnings to disperse or get arrested, all while protesters got kettled into small spaces they couldn't get out from. Military-looking humvees rolling down the street. All in defense of a genocide. It was sickening.

The only way israel gets to continue their apartheid government and slow take over of palestine is if they frame all their detractors as anti semetic.
