I’m 18 and I really see the impact of what Hasan is talking about regarding young people realizing that they have no effect on politics. My social circles were incredibly politically motivated back in 2020, now it’s mostly doomer discussions about how things are messed up and we’re never gonna be able to fix them. Even I’m feeling it, and I’ve tried to have a more healthy relationship with politics. It’s sad to see in a country that tries to pride itself so much on democracy.
I saw the same thing back in the 00s - I was super active with protesting Bush and the Iraq War, but didn’t see any tangible results. I was also a big supporter of Obama, but then within a few months of his election realized he was just a liberal shill. I ended up jaded about politics completely and didn’t pay attention again until Bernie ran in 2016. I wonder if Biden has had a similar effect on younger people today?
