  • If you have a gas or propane barbecue, you need to do this simple maintenance procedure to the burner every year or so to keep it working at peek performance. Don't throw away your grill because of uneven heating, fix the problem and save your money. Yes I know the drip tray is all corroded, I went out and bought new sear plates and a drip tray after filming the burner maintenance. The grill looks like new now and it is 10 years old. Canadian made, will last a lifetime. All the parts for this are readily available and cheap. This is how a grill gets after a year of heavy use. This is used at least 3 times a week year round.

    You can get about 90% of the same job accomplished by just using a small hand held Stainless steel wire brush in a fraction of the time. I have similar SS tube type burners and I use a wire brush on them a couple times a year without removing them from the grill. It does a good job of renewing the full flame pattern. Not knocking your methods just pointing out an alternative that works well.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  Před 4 lety +3

      I used to do that and it is more like 40%. Why do you think I started removing the burners and drilling them out? Also Napoleon recommends this and they even supply the drill bit with their own branding.

  • @dreamydaze
    @dreamydaze Před 5 lety +2

    Good video, some of us are a bit OCD, and kept waiting for you to clean the rest of the BBQ first, drill out the burners and reassemble - but I get it, your focus was on the burner clean out, in which case, just state "that for the purposes of this video, I focussed only on the burners. The drip tray can be cleaned later". Personally, I would have removed the burners took out the drip tray cleaned that and the shell of the BBQ and then drilled out the burners, followed by cleaning the venturi by using the optional Napoleon Venturi cleaner which cleans the venturi portion of the burner and the insides of the burner tubes - eliminating the need to use compressed air.

    • @12voltvids

      The drip tray was fubar. Rusted. I had a new one on order and installed it after the burners were cleaned.
      I also replaced the sear plates, and put a new grill stone. Which reminds me. I need to get another one because my stone just broke into 3 pieces.

    I wouldn't laugh at the age of that drill. My Dad still has his old Black and Decker that he got back in the 70's and it still works like a charm.
    Meanwhile he's gone through three cordless drills in that time.
    That and you could tell it's Canadian. The "Simpsons Sears" gives it away.

My Rear Burner Supply Tube has a puncture and I can't find the part number of that part for a Napoleon Prestige II model 450. Other model's parts diagrams have them, and interesting that they all begin with n720-00xx.

The sparkers also come off with a single screw.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  Před 5 lety +1

      I use mine year round. At least 2 to 3 times a week. I just throw the cover over it and give it a good cleaning spring and fall. So far the only parts I have replaced is the sizzle burner, sizzle grill, sizzle plates that go over the burner and the grease drip tray. Mine was made in Canada. There are Chinese models also put there sold by big box stores. I dont know how they compare but the ones made in Canada are fully serviceable and the parts readily available at the dealer. They are also really reasonable. The side burner for example was replaced last summer. It was 75.00. I take the burner tubes out each spring and drill out the gas holes. As I said mine gets tons of use. Oh, almost forgot the spark electrode and igniter for the side burner also failed but that was due to a leaking battery.

      @@12voltvids not sure what the heck everyone else is talking about, my grill (at least on the inside) looks about the same. I just ordered a new set of SS grills as my 450 came with the porclean ones that have finally gave out after 9 years of consistent use. I also bought a new drip tray and upgraded it to a SS version of it too. I was gonna buy a new burner, but thought Id hold off till next year as the new drip pan and grills cost me $400, but now that you showed out to service it, i dont have to! So thank you to that! Best grill I have owned going on its 9th year in use and was a wedding gift so it has some sentimental value, thats why I didnt mind spending the 400 on it. (vs 1400 plus tax on new) I'll probably vacum out and scrub down the sides a bit to freshen it up a bit. As for your point, the prestiges are typically Canadian made, stay away from the chinese built ones from the box stores as they dont last nearly as long. I should get another 9 years easily out of this beast, although I'll probably clean it more often now. Thanks again for the video.

      I have had mine now for 10 years. Last summer I spent money on it. I replaced the drip tray (40.00) infrared burner (90.00) and sear plates (110.00)
      That is all I have spent on it. I bought an Island Grill stone. I can not recommend this accessory enough. You will cook the best chicken, fish, kabobs you have ever tasted.
      My Napoleon is used year round. At least 3 times a week rain, shine or snow. I am fortunate as I have a large covered overhang so I stay dry while grilling. I take the burners out and drill out the gas holes every year as my spring maintenance. You can not compare any of the chinese made big box grills to the Canadian made ones. First of all the Chinese made grills have no parts available. The canadian made ones have every part for the unit available, and they are very easy to change. I am good for another 10 years and I have 240.00 in parts for it.
      Try that with the Canadian tire and Home Deopt specials

      It gets cranked up to 900' at the end of each use to burn off what remains. Then it is scrubbed before each use. The grill that is. The grillstone which is what I cook on allot was not shown here because it was in the house. I cook steaks on the bars generally, and everything else is on my slab of lava. The drip tray was pretty much shot on this one so I had ordered a new one. Nice thing about the Canadian made Napoleon grills is all the parts are replaceable. I actually dump out the drip tray a few times a year, but it was rusted when I did this video to drill out the burners which needs to be done about once a year here due to high sulfur in the gas. Remember that this was my spring maintenance of the grill. I use my grill year round. It is used about 3 times a week so my grill has much higher than average use. Considering it is 10 years old, it is doing pretty good. I replaced the drip tray, and sear plates as they were rusting through, and the infrared burner. That is all I have done to it, after 10 years of service.
