Check out their daft punk medley video they won a Grammy for. They made it in Avi's house and a budget of like 400 dollars or something. Then after that listen to literally everything of theirs. You'll be glad you did.

    *rolling on the floor laughing*
"shut the front door, the troll song?!"
this made me laugh so much
    ALSO
"my boy got de mullet, this gurl is a baddie" first impression of Kirstie and Mitch
    AND ANOTHER ALSO
"i don't see no guitar yet"
well honey, hate to break it to you but there ain't no guitar in this video
AND THEN WHEN HE REALIZED THAT IT WAS A CAPELLA
AND THE FINAL ALSO (i lied)
when Mitch started singing he just died and fell on the floor
    "NO"
    AND (maybe) THE FINAL ALSO
"the energy is off the chorhts"
    AND THE FINAL ALSO
    "oh baby, es a banger"
ok now for suggestions if you even get this far
    come along pentatonix
    feel it still pentatonix
bohemian rhapsody pentatonix (there is where you get your guitar in mitch's fricking vocal's)
    be my eyes pentatonix
    happy now pentatonix
    ref pentatonix
    radioactive pentatonix
and now for my spiel (don't worry i do this on every ptx reaction i see)(from left to right)
Matt, white leather jacket dude, is a bass. He does all of the deep notes for the group.
Kirstie, the only chick, is a mezzo-soprano. That means she can sing high and down to an alto range.
Scott, tall blond dude in the middle, is a baritone. That means he can sing low and high. He takes over bass whenever Matt is singing
Mitch, aka mullet dude, is a tenor, which is the highest group of men singers, (which doesn't really describe him that much.) He can sing every fricking note on the piano, really cool dude.
Kevin, beatboxing dude on the far right, is a beatboxer, but is also a tenor. He can sing really high, but mostly does the beatboxing for the group.
And finally Avi Kaplan, who isn't in this video. Avi is a bass, but also has a higher register. He left the group in 2017 and got replaced by Matt, who is now their bass. Avi has a separate channel that is absolutely amazing. Avi will appear in pentatonix's older videos, like Hallelujah.
I think that's it. You are not uncultured swine anymore.

Welcome to the new world of a capella. Pentatonix and Home Free have rewritten the book on a capella worldwide. All of the suggestions for more songs to listen to are great. Pentatonix has 3 Grammys, one for their "Daft Punk Medley" (Daft Punk), one for their" Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" (Tchaikovsky), and one for basically being Dolly Parton's backup band(?) on "Jolene". Also, try "Hallelujah" (Leonard Cohen), "Imagine" (John Lennon), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen), "Mad World" (Tears for Fears), and of course, any of their Christmas music. For Home Free may I recommend their "Man of Constant Sorrow", "Ring of Fire" (Johnny Cash), my favorite, "Helplessly Hoping" (Crosby, Stills & Nash) (and then a quarantined Italian Youth Choir's cover of Home Free's arrangement), and of course any of their Christmas music.

I’ve never caught a video of a first time PTX viewer so soon, and I’m SO glad this popped up. Yes they’re an all voice no instrument acapella group. This is one of my favorites by them but my god they have so many. Definitely hit Hallelujah next. Here’s a brief breakdown from a fellow Pentaholic (you’ll convert next song don’t worry):
Left to right, Matt, the bass. Replaced Avi Kaplan when he amicably left the band a few years ago. Such a strong voice. Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty), mezzo soprano, gorgeous, talented, obvi. Scott, baritone but his voice range is incredible and covers bass when Matt has singing parts. Mitch, tenor or counter tenor depending who you ask, different style every time you see him, godly and angelic voice, mutually voted best voice of the group. Kevin, your beatboxer. He sings too, very very well, and plays cello as well. Just overall extremely unreal talented guy.
Bohemian rhapsody, Daft Punk, Love Again, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (no lyrics, so an absolute must watch), Mary Did You Know, and sooo many more amazing covers and hits. Welcome to the fan club. We’re glad to have you.

Okay...subbed for the PTX rabbit hole. If you want to get an idea of the scope of this group's pure talent, run through Hallelujah, Daft Punk (Grammy winner...shot in Avi's kitchen closet for $400 when they were dead broke), Havana, Bohemian Rhapsody (Strap In!), New Rules/Are You That Somebody?, Mad World...and many more. They own the Christmas Album sales chart, so sample their versions of The Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies (how to win a Grammy for a song with no words....) and O Come All Ye Faithful for a totally different approach to an old classic. Perhaps the ultimate test of their talent may be their original song "Thank You" - how to compose a touching and heartfelt new Christmas song in a year with political turmoil, economic hardships and a deadly worldwide pandemic...they managed it beautifully.

As beautiful as this song is, it's a shock that what they are talking about is a nuclear explosion with people walking aimlessly about and those that remember write the story on tenement walls and subways halls so that people won't forget what got us there. This was a song first created by Simon and Garfunkel singing about the cold war when we feared a war with Cuba. As a child, I remember the , ' duck and cover' training that we practiced under our school desks. This was a song written in the 60's when I was a child,. But Pentatonix has made it's song for today with our hearing of certain countries practicing with missiles, not knowing where they will be aimed.
Pentatonix does this song so much justice. So many of the younger generation do not remember those times and try to figure out what this song means. What I just wrote explains it all. An earthshaking reminder. They do a fantastic job! 💙 I Love Pentatonix!

I am with the other's on here. If you want a guitar solo, check out Bohemian Rhapsody. Mitch slays it in a surprising way. Not quite sure why this song was recommended for a guitar solo, but whatever. It introduced you to PTX, and they are fantastic. One of my suggestions, if you want to see them live, and when they first started on this journey, check out their version of The Dog Days are Over by Florence and the Machine, when Pentatonix was on the Sing Off (12th performance, series 3, in 2011). They were babies then, but you could see they were going to make something of themselves. Also, check out some of their Evolutions of music, ie, Evolution of Music, Evolution of Michael Jackson, Evolution of Beyonce. These are mindblowing.

You are now a Pentaholic! Welcome to the club. Just FYI, the guy in the white jacket is a newer member. He is the bass and he replaced the original bass, Avi, in 2017. Avi left on good terms for personal reasons. But, older videos will have Avi and not Matt. They don't use instruments and if they do, you will see them. Kevin is the beatboxer. He does sing in some of the songs. He also plays the cello and will sometimes play the cello and beatbox at the same time. This song had no guitars. They never had guitars. But, in their Bohemian Rhapsody cover, Mitch (the one with the mullet in this video) sounds like a guitar at some points. Perhaps that was what they meant. Go ahead and jump down the rabbit hole of Pentatonix videos. You won't be disappointed. Also, The Sound of Silence was originally by Simon and Garfunkel. I think it was released in the 1960s.

"Pentatonic": A musical scale with five (penta) tones, each of which can be the tonic, the root note that a melody wants to end up on.
Because Pentatonix has five members they named themselves for the pentatonic scale.
The beatboxer is named Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loo"-shoh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth syllable). He's usually too busy being a complete drum kit to sing, but when he does sing he has a lovely tenor voice and is known for the beauty of his falsetto register.
You can hear a solo from Kevin in the Pentatonix -cover- upgrade of John Lennon's "Imagine." Make sure you have a box of tissues handy.

@@WhatTheBlastt The easiest way to find a pentatonic scale is to just use the black keys on a keyboard. It's very popular with people who are just beginning to play instruments because you can improvise in it and it's pretty much guaranteed to sound good. And you don't need to worry about where the tonic is,; you can end your song on any note in the scale and it will be guaranteed to sound right.
