ALL acapella! (look up the Daft Punk private performance - it's a live recording where they don't even use microphones)
They do have a few songs where they use instruments (mainly cello, but also a few with violin and one with piano) - but they are always shown in the video. So if you don't see an instrument - there aren't any!

So, this video cost them a whopping $400 to produce. 😂😂😂 *Grammy... CHECK!*
But yes. Unless you see actual instruments with your own eyeballs, it's voices only. (Aaaaand yes, that includes the bullhorn used in Bohemian Rhapsody. It's simply a prop. Mitch kills the guitar solo without it.)

    • @r0kus
      @r0kus Před 3 lety +3

Money exceptionally well spent! I don't know if the $400 was total production cost, or just the recording and costume cost. Avi and Kevin (the bass and beatboxer) shared an apartment, and the recording of everyone's parts was done in of their closets. I think they all knew they were doing something special; you can tell from their expressions. The recordings were turned over to an editing house, and unless they were doing it for an exceptionally low price (or free), I can't imagine that it fit within the $400 number.

And yes, Avi's low range is just spectacular. This song doesn't come close to highlighting just how amazing his voice is. He isn't with Pentatonix any longer, since 2017, and their new bass is really good. But Avi is, for many of us, special. When they were on Sing Off in 2011, where they got their start, one of the judges commented that Avi was able to do things with his voice that other singers required studio equipment for. He joined with Home Free for Ring of Fire (that video is also worth a reaction!), and has also collaborated with Peter Hollens, and probably others I haven't found. As a solo artist he has produced some both amazing and sublime music, and a couple of really first-class videos as well.

They are a special gift to us. They have another EDM piece - an original called Love Again that is amazing. And weird.
You'll probably like their Bohemian Rhapsody, partially because it should be impossible, but also because it is just so good. Recommended by Brian May.
They also have a habit of improving pop songs by tuning up the arrangement : Havana, Say Something, Shallow, Cheerleader.
Their originals are quite excellent : Sing!, Run To You.
And way too much Christmas music : Mary Did You know, Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy, You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch are the big hits, but if you know it, they have probably sung it.
They do some Disney and Disney-esque music, partially because Kirsten's mezzo-soprano voice is a perfect match for a lot of the Disney song leads, but also because Mitch, with a slightly different sound is also excellent in those parts : Let It Go, Can You Feel The Love Tonight, When You Wish Upon A Star, Over The Rainbow, Come Along.
Some of their recent big hits are Amazing Grace, Be My Eyes, Happy Now and My Favorite Things.
And yes, I think Kirsten's makeup in this Daft Punk medley hit most guys' fetish zone.

Kevin Olusolu, the beat boxer is an incredible singer, check him out doing Sign of the Times, he plays multiple instruments and he isn’t human when it comes to the noises he makes, he’s my favourite.
Mitch Grassi is the guy who is singing really high in this, as you get further into the rabbit ho,e you’ll soon realise that he has gone through a complete transformation with his appearance, he is incredible and can sing higher than Kirstin.
Scott is a bit of a chameleon, his range spans 5 octaves and I have heard vocal coach reactors refer to him as a true baritone.
If you want to be mesmerised even more watch “white winter hymnal”, “the sugarplum fairy”, and if you want to see Kevin being an absolute explosion watch them do Blinding Lights by the Weeknd, it’s a fairly recent one right at the start of lockdown.
If you want to see some awesome video work, look at anything they’ve done in 2020, all done in lockdown, in their own houses, filmed by themselves then stitched together by the guy that put the daft punk video together. Particularly look for their Home Medley, there are about 25 songs with Home in the titles.
And now they’re starting to do new stuff that they have written, look at Be My Eyes written by Kirsten, and Happy Now written by Scott but it’s about Mitches personal journey.

Did you react to Pentatonix Hallelujah? Did it get blocked? I don’t see it. 🙁 would love to see it if it didn’t get blocked.

Kevin is the beatboxer {black dude} He ate a complete drum set and you have to check him out in his own channel KO {his initials} song, Down. He plays sax, cello and sings as well! He is multi talented and went to med. school. and the rest are multi talented as well! They have some killer ranges! Thanks for the reaction. Subbed for more PTX!

If you wanna react to their older songs, you can react to Valentine, La La Latch, Aha!, Rather Be, Cheerleader, Carol of the Bells and others. If you wanna react to their newer songs, you can react to Come Along, Can you Feel the Love Tonight, Waving through the Window, Shallow, Happy Now, Mad World, the whole of Home album and the whole of We Need a Little Christmas album and their newest song, The Lucky Ones. (basically MOST of them lmaooo)
Please don't attack me cuz these songs are just my personal favourites and I will definitely recommend to react.
A side note, their album is coming out really soon so you can purchase it. It's super fantastic and overall, their covers are really fking fantastic and in my darkest days, their music really cheers me up and I wanna thank them for that.
With their talent, they really deserve so much, much more, but I don't think the majority of the world would appreciate acapella music so I'm really trying my best to support them and buying their albums. It's so cool to see more and more people reacting to Pentatonix this month it's actually shocking...

One of the songs that nicely display the contrast between Mitch's high vocal tone and Avi's low vocal tone would be their original "Love Again"
Couple more songs you should totally check out would be "Hallelujah", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "The Wizard of Ahhs" and prolly any of the Evolution of medleys

Way......lol Learn to appreciate the talent and the people behind that talent. ;) Avi Kaplan' s(pronounced Ahhhhh Vee) bass and Kevin Olusola's beat boxing (he also plays the cello) will do you in every time. When this band first came together on a singing competition called the sing off (they won btw) one of the judges named Avi and Kevin the "meat and potatoes" of the group. They were best buddies and roommates. This video was made in the closet and kitchen of Avi and Kevin's apartment for about $400. It was also their first Grammy win. They have 3 Grammy wins and all 3 were when Avi was with the band. He was with them for more than 6 years and left on good terms. He helped them find his replacement Matt Sallee and he has gone on to have a solo career. The male blond (Scott Hoying aka the angel), Mitch Grassi (high school musical guy)and Kirsten Maldonado (the avatar) grew up together in Texas. Please watch the older videos, both covers and originals, first so you can see their humble beginnings and really appreciate how they got where they are. They are a family and though each is so different, when they come together its pure magic. thanks for the reaction. priceless. The Pentaholics(PTX fans) are the best.

  • @debhouckscraftycottage9288

lol...yeah, welcome to the PTX rabbit hole. Okay, so the dude with the braids is Avi Kaplan (normally just long dark hair and beard) - was the bass until mid-2017 (well, actually, September I think). He has gone solo now and has a different sound, and plays guitar and a few other instruments. You you may like his Change on the Rise. Personally, I love all his music. Matt replaced him and was in Sound of Silence, and is in their music since end of 2017. Kevin (or, KO) is the beatboxer, who also can sing and play cello. Mitch is the one with angelic voice. Scott has the blonde hair and has a great range. Kirsten (Kirstie, rhymes with thirsty), has the blue hair here. She likes to change her look a lot and Mitch does as well. Also, they won their first Grammy for this song/video (first of three grammies). I'm sure others will tell you how they made this. :)

The beat boxing is done by Kevin, (the guy in the glasses), the wind/air sound is made by Avi, the bass, as well as providing pumping bass beats. :) then there’s Mitch, Scott, Kirstie, who are providing the main vocals.

So the sideways singing with Kristin, she was born with a cleft lip and pallet, she’s had multiple operations to rebuild the roof of her mouth and plastic surgery on her lip. She is a mezzo soprano and considering how brilliant she is, she’s actually a miracle of nature.

@@WhatTheBlastt To help from getting blocked find or make your own pattern that has a transparent background, and put that pattern over the video. Or create a text layer with like 3 or 4 lines of text; line 1: "Pentatonix", line 2: Name of the song, line 3: "Cover" if its a cover or "Orignal", line 4: Name of original artist if its a cover.
