    A lot of people dump on this thing for some reason, maybe because it doesn't compare to racing drones, but I love it. For somebody like me who wants to fly FPV but doesn't want to deal with all the building and figuring shit out, this is perfect. Wish it was a little cheaper but it's top notch quality.

      who ever says that is very biased. I own custom build Racing quads and I find myself using my DJI FPV more than them, its so smooth and fun to fly, and in manual it can match my racing drones in the straight line with nearly 90MPH, certainly no SLOUCH, the quality of the image in the goggles is just out of this world. unbelievable

    • @spectre3492
      @spectre3492 Před 3 lety +5

      @@ronancullen4565 i like flying the DJI drone too, wish it was snappier on the turns and didn't float through the air as much but its a good package. One thing it lacks bigtime is reparability. if you blow one of the arms off its not plug and play like it should be. you have to do a bunch of shit to take it apart and resolder the wires back on. i wouldn't recommend really pushing this thing to the limit close to the ground if you're trying to get better at freestyle moves. If you keep it like 50ft off the ground you're good to go because you have time to correct.

      Same here. I have two DJI FPV drones and a room full of batteries, chargers, soldering irons, draws of connectors, power supplies, box antennae, goggles, motors and props. I have not flown the other quads since buying the DJI’s. I bought the second one because I listened to the internet of how easy it is to break. I also have a set of spare arms which I have not used.
      It’s great to have an extra set of goggles for my kids but the relay feed gets horrible about 100 meters away with no obstructions.

  • @geezerpleasers_OG
    @geezerpleasers_OG Před 3 lety +71

    That's not a correct interpretation of the VLOS rule. Putting on the goggles does not violate the VLOS rule. I corresponded with the FAA a few months ago about several questions including this one. In their response, they stated specifically that flying with FPV goggles does not violate VLOS as long as the drone is within range so that the pilot can see the drone if he or she removes the goggles. (Quote: "The pilot can see the aircraft by simply taking off the FPV goggles. 107.31 (a) does not require that the pilot always have the aircraft in sight. It just requires that the pilot be able to see it"). If the FPV pilot gets carried away and flies it outside of visual range, that's a violation, same as for non FPV pilots

    • @dos4gwexe
      @dos4gwexe Před 2 lety

      I've never heard it interpreted this way, I want to follow up with the FAA now too! Just to nitpick though, not everyone is flying Part 107. If you haven't gotten your part 107 license, all your flights will fall under 49 USC 44809. The language about LOS is pretty much identical in either case.

    • @geezerpleasers_OG
      @geezerpleasers_OG Před 2 lety +1

      @@dos4gwexe If you don't have your Part 107 license, you can only fly under 49 USC 44809 IF you meet all the requirements within that code. Everyone falls under Part 107 unless they meet those requirements. I just wanted to say, I always wanted to fly like the pros, but it takes time to learn. I bought the DJI FPV drone and used it as a learning tool, because it has all the safeguards on it. This allowed me to get more comfortable flying fpv, which I then used my skills to fly my dyi fpv freestyle drones.

    Aside from racing there's two drone camps - those that want a drone for the video, and those that want a video from flying the drone. I'm in the latter, as I love the immersion the FPV provides and I love that I can watch the footage after the flight. At some point I'll probably want to concentrate on the video over the drone, and then I'll likely get the new Air 3 (as of today).

    I’m no expert on piloting drones or drone photography, but you buy the FPV primarily to fly like a bird, and see what a bird sees. The video’s are great pulled from the drone, but they certainly are not awesome. As someone who has been in the graphics are field for nearly 40 years, if you want awesome photography and video’s, the FPV is not what you’re looking. If you want great videos and the thrill of buzzing 12” off the grass at 90mph, this is what you want. And the video is awesome 12” up and 90mph forward. I bought the FPV and 0 regrets. Now I want a Mavic 3. Lol

    When you go into turtle mode on a real quad, you turn on turtle mode and then push the direction it needs to flip, betaflight even gives you an arrow to tell you which way to push your stick. And when you do it, get far away when you test, it could hurt you. After a while of practice you will not lean when standing, plus you get better range the higher the transmitter (you call it a remote).

    DJI has done a great thing with the DJI FPV drone... great quality footage doing mad tricks .. almost 90mph in acro.. 3 modes and full quality recording . This is for a good FPV flyer who isnt gonna crash it every flight then its perfect... though if you use the other modes then your good anyway. If your into FPV drones and your not so skilled, but love the tight risky flying which is great btw but prone to hitting stuff...then dont buy yet or dont put into acro yet simply because its gonna cost you a fair bit if you prang it. If you love to do videos and your a great flyer its gonna be a blast... why there would be haters is beyond me . DJI has brought out the DJI air unit so u can also fly with your own drone with great goggle image quality and if u have a GoPro then you have the both of best worlds . I have both and not a 'great' FPV pilot just yet but learning fast... and i love it.

    Interesting perspective, I think most people that are flying this thing are coming from the world of racing quads rather than cinema drones. I think if you were to keep it and keep practicing in rate mode (manual mode) you would find that as your skill level increases this is the smoothest way to fly. I prefer to use the term "Rate Mode" and the term "Angle mode" for DJI (Note that it's D*J*I, not D*G*I lol. Sorry, pet peeve of mine, no youtuber can seem to pronounce this right!) because it's more descriptive of what the quad is actually doing. In Angle mode (sport), you are requesting a specific angle of attack when you move the sticks, so you have to hold the stick in that position to maintain that angle of attack and when you release it the quad moves back to level. In rate mode (manual) you are requesting a specific rate of rotation when you move the sticks, so if you move the right stick right, the quad will roll right at the rate requested until you return the stick to center, and then it will stay at that angle until it receives another input. This is why so many new pilots crash when first trying rate mode, you have to control every movement of the quad.
    Also, analog has it's advantages. Yes the feed is low def and staticy, but the view tends to degrade slowly and even when it gets really bad you can usually still see enough to get out of trouble. Of course I suppose with the DJI it will hopefully just brake and RTH, but relying on automatic systems to get you out of trouble is not a good idea. Automatic systems can let you down, but your own skills never will.
    Anyway great video, enjoyed the perspective.

    Thanks for the demo. I think DJI makes a very clean product, but I think they omitted the features of the Mavic to differentiate their product line. A feature like tracking could easily be implemented on the DJI FPV rig. This makes me hesitant to recommend this to anyone with a cinema interest. I say just build the DJI FPV system into a hobby grade drone and get the goggles. I'm still impressed with the digital FPV side of DJI however I'm a huge fan of user serviceable parts and the lower cost of a custom built drone (with DJI FPV of course).

    Be prepared to have it in for repairs at DJI a lot if you crash it I have seen one and it’s not a strong copter frame a crash that will leave my 5”marmotte with a bent prop will totally wreck this thing
    I’d love to see a combination flight controller/ video/ camera system for a standard Fpv 5” frame using the new tech....or better yet just allow use with a standard serial receiver for use with a standard 12ch computer radio

    Tip you can turn on distortion correction on camera only so you'll see props in goggles but in camera, it crops out the props.

      I had picked up the fpv and returned it as I was unfamiliar with the faa laws. It was my first drone. I grabbed a mini 2, but the fpv is so much more fun I might rebuy it. I feel more confident in the fpv as I'm seeing it first person. The mini 2 I'm having a hard time watching out of the camera..I Neverending crashed the fpv but have hit a few trees with the mini already.

    Maybe that’s why they designed it with the props in the frame. Technically, you can see the drone.
