Ah, the 7-11 game. This was fun to watch.
really classy, Clint
He did the right thing
tantheman Tell me how tearing the referee's sheet is ever the right thing to do? It's plain stupid. What is that going to do?
tantheman would be the right thing when he might be suspended from the gold cup? idiot
That wouldn't suspend him from the gold cup?
tantheman Berating the ref and ripping out the sheet is the right thing really? How about walking away and shutting his mouth?
I'm not even an MLS fan, but I'm more offended by this ref than I am the reaction of Dempsey.
Good game to the players who stayed on the field and didn't get sent off
Azira gets a red for stomping on the foot not the elbow.
Exactly. Hard to tell from the fuzzy, poorly lit video, but it looks like he might have raked his boot down the other player's Achilles, which is pretty nasty.
why in the world did they allow both teams to wear dark green kits
Timbers cheated & left their white kits (they were supposed to wear) at home.
@@diogenesofseattle2344 Home team is always supposed to have two kits and be ready to change. Next.
Watching the highlights with joy! Red Card Wedding was something else! RCTID
PRO refs and USOC organizers. Smart as always. Put a 1st tier matchup in the 4th round where of course a rookie official will royally screw up. Definitely will not be officiating MLS anytime soon.
For everyone complaining about Azira's red, you aren't looking about it correctly.
The announcer was shit. There was no contact with the elbow. Instead, Azira clawed the Timbers calf. That is a red offense.
The commentator said "he uaed his elbow, but he wasn't looking at him, he was playing the ball" Does this moron really think that you have to be making eye contact with a player to throw an elbow at him? Jesus christ how do these people get these jobs.
Are you blind? The sounders player was clearly going for the ball, the referee was garbage
***** Actually, as I look at it again, the commentator doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. The player wasn't sent off for an elbow, you're right, the elbow was nowhere near the player, he got sent off because he went in on his leg straight up with his cleats. Look at it again. That's defintely a straight red card. The fucking announcer is sitting god knows where, and didn't even see the kick.
Johnny Swann He went cleats first on him and spiked him. The commentator was wrong in saying it was an elbow.
***** Yea, I believe you think that the severity of the foul is what determines which card in a situation like this. If you go cleats first at someone's shins whether you're going for the ball or the actual shin, it's going to be a red card. The only time it may be pardoned with a yellow is if the player doing the kicking tries to immediately retrieve his leg after he realizes he might have made contact with the player and not the ball. There, the referee will have to use discretion and give him the card he thinks is appropriate. In this case, there was no retrieval of the leg, he followed through with even though he knew he didn't have the ball.
he certainly is the hero of many players now ^^
I just have watched the highlights and to me the decissions of the ref were right.
You must be from Portland
John Rambo Not really.
Unknown Person The second sending off was a bit harsh, as for the rest yeah spot on
Joe Jones I agree. The Evans cards were properly awarded (although I don't see how he avoids the second yellow, because he did not directly cause the Timbers player to go down into him, and he can't just stop playing the ball either.) I just don't see any card against Azira. Yes, the Timbers player caught an errant elbow; but it was neither flagrant nor reckless. Just an unfortunate accident. It's a physical sport, and you don't show a player a card each time he contacts another player. Clint's going to get a red for taking a sheet from the ref and tearing it up. That's just unquestionable. I don't blame him for his anger, because the Azira card was utter nonsense; but he can't do that and be allowed to continue playing.
Well then you must be American and/or never watch football
Absolutely preposterous ref. That ref is disgusting.
Scinticilent He did fine?
The ref is a Portland Timbers fan
Would be interesting to watch this referee apply his trade South America, would be a race to see who gets reduced to 6 players first ahaha
That looked like fun ...
GO TIMBERS!!
Did they play this game on a High School field? Must have used the High School refs.
I know I’m 5 years late, but this was played at Starfire, the Sounders training facility
@@rjmurph07 I guess the ref was in training too then?😂
If Lou Pinella or any other baseball manager had done this we'd all be laughing about it. I'm, not condoning it, but come on... it was a funny way to get tossed. Quit being so serious and look at the funny side of everything.
Where is this being played?
the seattle s2 team pitch
dont hate on dempsey hes the best player the usa have right now and i think he got really mad and didnt think before actions we all make mistakes right?
All reds well deserved.
Brads second yellow was a bit harsh but understandable. The first two Portland goals were just flat out unlucky, not much you can do about that. Now Azira's red was honestly the weakest card Ive ever seen, maybe could have been a yellow. Then we get to to deuce. We all know he to be low tempered and very emotional. I'm not saying it was okay but I doubt any of you would have been level headed in that situation. That third goal well, that's what happens when you start someone for the first time against a strong Portland side. And to all the Portland fans, Fuck off this our channel let us whine and grieve in peace.
I don't blame perkins its good hes getting minutes but imo Frei should have started.
Azira raked his boot down the Timbers guy's Achilles. Quite nasty, deserved red.
WHAT A LAME REF! That was a fair play and Azira shouldn't have been red carded. MLS needs better refs who are well trained as to these kind of situations. Wow, portland got away with an easy win.
Not an mls game not an mls ref
Don't you think these kits clash a bit.
Why isn't it in the main stadium?
nfl match probably
i need that refs name and address...
***** That's Simon Borg. Ha ha ha ha.
***** So I can send him a case of beer.
It's Daniel Radford. I will buy him a beer.
Best MLS-era USOC match ever? #rctid
Now us Americans won't have Clint for the Gold Cup. Damn.
Bring in Bobby Wood! 😃
Why are they playing in such a small stadium? It's a rivalry game too.
***** us open cup
That was a terrible call! I know implementing replay would be near impossible and ruins the spirit of the game. But that was so obvious he did not elbow him on purpose. Why would you even risk that when your already down 2 men... Ref was an idiot. Dempsey will get suspended probably, and im sure the ref will not face any consequences for a poor call.
Shameful Clint Dempsey! You are a captain of the national team. Whether you agree w/the referee's call or not, tearing up his book is absolutely unacceptable. Young players across this country look to your example. I hope you get max punishment Mr. Dempsey.
***** Hope Solo's incident was not on the pitch, and was not soccer related, nor is she captain of the national team. Your comparison is invalid.
***** No, its not. Again, I refer you to my previous statement. Nothing about your comment is a valid comparison as everything in your statement is not comparable.
Tim Wagner Nobody looks up to an American national. This is a good example of why the mls is a joke. the pitch looks like my highschool field the ref was awful, just disappointing.
Hyp3rD3f, this was a non-MLS game so...
juliomacielbr They're mls teams so
Wait why is Seattle playing in this really small staduim?!
What happened to big one?
Christian Fonseca It's just for the cup. They tend to play at Centurylink field and play down at Tuwalika or whatever that spells sometimes.
Jonathan Terpak
Oh ok thanks
All sounders fans do is complain. Bad Refs but Portland the better team. What is up with Sounders players always throwing a fit.
Braulio Arellano FYI Seattle played most of their subs and reserves, while Portland was missing what, 3 starters? And Portland still had some trouble when they were 2 men up. All in all, it was pretty stupid that Seattle did that.
***** You think I should slap the notes from Refs hand and rip it up? C'mon. If you would have seen a Timber or Galaxy player doing it, you would have an issue with it. Sounders had many reasons to be angry but to throw a fit like a kid?
You just proved my point about Sounders fans complaining. You want to focus on me saying Sounders players always throwing a fit? Watch the game again and watch how many Sounders Players complain at diff times in the game. The problem with rooting or playing for a team that is usually winning.
Braulio Arellano Anyone's fans would be complaining if this were them.
You just keep proving my point. There is no "simple reality" Its one opinion vs the other. We have both seen worse calls, so why doesn't happen more often? Could it be other players have some sort of "cool, calm, and collected attitude? Might just be my friend. But hey, I guess I'm deluding myself.
i mean.........dempsey is of irish descent
seattle are screwed Dempsey is suspended for probably 3 months for Referee assault and Martins was stretchered off you're 2 top player all gone. wow im shocked he did that
hunh?
type in The Fumble-Clint Dempsey click on the first video and watch it
Jd Dehl The suspensions only count for the US Open Cup, not regular MLS matches. As for Oba... we have to wait to see
no any type of referee assault carries on.
What the hell happened last night? Lol
please dont tell me he is an fifa ref :D this ref is a joke ... if that is red for azira, we wouldnt end any game in germany with 11 vs 11 ^^
Modernize the US Open Cup logo.
First time Portland could beat Seattle in a while, and they had to be up 2 men in order to get the extra goal, and they needed some officiating to go there way. All the portland fans come on here and call Seattle a bunch of thugs when in reality it was their players flopping around like a bunch of girls when getting a little contact. Anyway, come the end of July will be the real match up. Cant wait
That's sexist dude
Dempsey needed to keep his cool and not do something remarkably stupid, like rip up a notebook.
But Azira's red was as terrible as it gets. Not even a yellow card. Ref shoulda given the Timber an Oscar for that acting job.
Piss poor officiating.
The players aren't the only part of the game that America is behind in.
But it doesn't matter of you would have done those things in that situation or not, Dempsey deserves a suspension for doing what he did. And also, just because you intended to do something doesn't mean that what happened isn't warranted action, both Azira and Evans deserved their sending offs, Evans with the obvious yellow with a kick on villifana and Azira endangering the safety of Fernandez with the cleat exposed on his challenge. The Dempsey incident speaks for itself.
Watching this referee triggers my anger issues...what a horrible performance.
WHEREAS, Mr. Dempsey tried s$*@
Typical Seattle
Typical Dempsey
Andrew Pena typical? like they do that often? Huh, it's pretty crazy I've missed all the other times this has happened.
Haha not as in they typically accumulate cards or lose. Dempsey is a great player, but his attitude sometimes. And Seattle could've done a lot better rather than letting the rivalry get to their heads.
It wasnt the rivalry. It was a weak second yellow for brad evans earlier in the game and the weakest red card I have ever seen on azira... Dempsey might get banned for a while, but that ref will probably never ref a professional game again.
that ref is down right terrible, should never ref again
I don't even watch the MLS and certainly wouldn't cheer for either of these teams if I did, but even I want to punch that ref for being a disgrace.
spieln die Kreisliga oder was ist das?
kann man ja wohl nicht Fußball nennen
Terrible call. Floppers ruined professional soccer.
Ever since this game, Portland has separated themselves as the gold standard of the MLS and absolutely dominated Seattle.
Wow. This is the worst refereeing performance I've seen in my entire life.
