  • There's not a lot of footage from Take the Ride v1 on here, so I'll bite and upload some brief snippets I have - mostly because I'm gonna need footage of this branding to use as B-roll for FKC lol.
In February of 1998, Fox Kids rebranded for the second time that season and the fourth(!) time in two seasons. Meant to feature the type of heavy CGI then en vogue on Kids WB, Cartoon Network's Toonami block, and other places, Take The Ride was more Frankenstein than it looked on the surface.
The basic premise of the look - "tunnels" - were actually lifted from the branding used on Fox Kids' then-new suite of international networks. There were a bunch of them, all meant to tie in with a program's vibe - lighthearted for comedies, space/futuristic stuff for the action shows, and "scary" tunnels for the nine million supernatural/spooky shows the network was carrying at that point.
The tunnels had their own unique soundtracks - all scrapped for the American branding, which had a techno-pop motif presumably composed at Saban Music. Also unique to Fox Kids US - CGI titles for every show, and CGI models for characters in many animated shows that have not aged too gracefully.
So why is this "Take The Ride v1"? From what I remember, the look was not actually all that popular amongst Fox Kids staffers, so it was pulled a few months later for ANOTHER new look, this one featuring much more elaborate CGI and a mix of musical scores (and not the same droning techno beat). v2 had three unique CGI environments - "haunted house" for the spooky shows, "space" for the superheroes, and "carnival" for everything else.
One final thing to note - the Fox Kids logo. In the lineup promo, notice the "Fox Kids Take The Ride" logo used. It is a CGI version of the logo introduced in February 1997, where the Fox Kids logo is formed out of red blocks "filling in" a Fox Kids logo cut out of a black square. Now look at the "Fox Kids will be right back" commercial bumpers.
The logos are different! The bumps had a slightly but noticeably different logo treatment in that the Fox Kids logo are solid letter shapes on top of a black square, with the letters in the logo subtly altered to maintain the effect of the February 1997 logo. This treatment looks way better in CGI, and it basically ended up becoming the logo of the network by the time v2 was implemented.
