Yes that’s true Martin Seligmann and others like Albert Ellis distilled stoicism Into the positive psychology movement that values resilience in front of obstacles and CBT is a variant of that discipline . It’s a it like western meditation with Socrates and Marcus Aurelius and Epitectilus and Seneca the younger as guides.

Your colleague John Vervaeke summarized stoicism perfectly, IMO, as the practice of separating event from meaning. Because something happens and you feel a certain way about it, doesn't mean there is any lasting significance to it. Also a practice in presence/mindfulness and emotional regulation. I see it as a foundational framework for building an effective and meaningful life. Seems to me right in line with your teachings.

That is so sad to have been humiliated and abused so much in hs to now still fantasizing in the worst way about killing them. This happened when my father did this to me, i had to eventually disown him and carry on life never ever thinking or caring about getting back together with him so he can harass and bully me again. Imagine having the bully be your own parent who non stop tries to humuliate you. The best cure is focus on self improvement and do not ruminate on these people or else you give them power and worse you betray yourself by becoming homicdal and violent in thought. They want you to become something your not. It motivates me every day to become better. Self improvement is the best revenge

in my opinion, stoicism is simply the beginning of the examined life and potentially the end.
Stoicism is kind of like an altruistic utilitarianism. You seek the good outcome of all human beings, but youre a good man that voluntarily suffers for the sake of the good for the people around you.
I see stoicism as the defining trait of a knight wearing rusted and weathered armor. the knight who has slept forever, and has awoken to pick up his duty once again, after wandering through countless battles of his life. the knight in shining armor is a knight without an innward appearance, it only shows what you want to see, not what you need to see.
You are the atlas to the people in your life. You are titan. you are the superman and batman to metropolis and gotham. the spiderman of NYC.
the important thing with Stoicism isnt just about seeing yourself as victimless and enduring all kinds of suffering without retaliation.
    stoicism isnt about retaliation.
stoicism is about control over the things you do have control over. if you retaliate, do so with the intetional ending of protection. Do things with a purpose, with a rational nature.
stoicism, is about being almost Christ-Like. it is the definition of heroism.
to be steadfast, serious minded, to have a noble mind, and a good heart with pure intentions, to put your morals above all else. there is nothing more valuable than a balanced mind, there is nothing more painful, than a chaotic soul.

Stoicism was a way to begin reading philosophy for me, but as I grew older I realized that stoicism is attractive because it seems "masculine" and "tough". It's not good enough philosophy, and can be chopped into pieces using simple logical reasoning. I still read stoicism related texts, but only to understand the history, anthropology, and mindset of people of that age and why they came to such conclusions. How different individuals came to different conclusions from a lineage of teaching that evolved over time is too interesting to avoid. Makes me think.

You are confusing it with lower case stoicism. Stoicism the philosophy has nothing to do with masculine and tough. I am the farthest from that, being female, a masculine way of thought is uninteresting to me. Stoicism at its core, just teaches you that you only control yourself, your impressions, and your reactions. Everything else you have no control over. Stoicism well I can't describe it all in just one YT comment. But its about using reason, and not letting your emotions control you. Not that you don't need to feel them, you have to in order to have a good life. It builds confidence, helps sort your emotions, focus on reason, and generally understand how wonderful life is. Yeah I’m gonna do it I’m just being lazy and afraid :/ I honestly don’t know where to begin. I think I will just say fuck it and make a rough draft and stop avoiding the inevitable tiring mess it’s gonna be. There definitely is a piece of the puzzle missing. I see glimpses of it but it’s so fragile. “Anything but a whisper and it vanishes” the missing piece of the puzzle is very very fragile. It’s realized and even quicker it’s unrealized. To tell you the truth I’m thinking of it right now and my mind is begging me to move on to another though. And that’s been the conflict as of late.
I’ll just refer to the missing peace of the puzzle while beating around the bush. The missing piece is associated with my new updated definitions of the concepts of patients, sacrifice, compromise, tolerance.
But there are also Negative associations that hold me back:
Fear, inpatients, shame, new definition of sacrifice is true and understood but I can’t accept it. You know what I might as well start with the sacrifice
    One example:
Old concept of true sacrifice: death is the biggest sacrifice and martyrdom is to have the at most praise
New sacrifice: without reward, without hope and one that needs to be performed time and time again without reward, hope and least of all certainty.
Well I’m gonna go find the full length version of this Because you lost me when you said the stoicism is a compromise fantasy. Because then you call it helpful? Is it a fantasy to be rooted out? Or is it helpful? Or is it a bit of both. See I just need elaboration on that. I don’t quite understand what your trying to say there about the stoicism near the end. I’ll watch it again when I can though. Maybe I missed something. Well goodnight lad. I need my beauty sleep. Gotta get stronk. Very very stronk and big mooscles. To end it off, I wish I didn’t know about you. Because it’s kinda hard to not be stat struck In the presence of the great JP. But lucky for you I’m not so good at having a filter for anyone. Gandalf the grey lookin bastard 😂😂😂

I've slapped a number of men in the face throughout my life for disrespecting me, such as slapping my ass. I sued a guy who assaulted me in 2002. I won my case and received 40k in retribution.
The poylgamy family in Ottawa who hacked my laptop and stalk me will be accountable. A friend recommended I also file a claim with the law society of Upper Canada. This demostrates I have done everything in my power to get justice. Police report and my documentation will assist me if I hire a lawyer.

Stoicism, the art of being free mentally. Epictetus was a slave, so mental freedom was his only option. I see it as Jesus' true teachings, the way early Christians got it. Paul ruined Jesus' teachings unfortunately.

@@karolinanie5946Look at my last reply, in some cases it is the right thing to ‘fix yourself’ due to your own incompetencies. However this is far too generalised to be accurate due to the fact that a lot of bullying doesn’t necessarily stem from something that is fixable, or a ‘fault’ whatsoever. A different approach has to be taken depending on the circumstances, this is too generalised.
