  • Pizza Cutters. Pie Cutters. Skinny Tires. ...whatever you want to call them. We wanted to try them out to see if they would work for us long term. On AND Off Road.
    After running AT (all terrain) tires for the first 160,000 miles, we decided to check out a set of MT (mud terrain) tires on the 4Runner. We have run MT Tires on other vehicles, but this is the first time with the 4Runner. With so many suggestions and ideas out there, we wanted to try a deep and aggressive tread pattern without breaking our fuel economy any more than we already had.
    Enter the Kumho MT71 LT255/75R17 C Load tires. These fit on our Trail Wheels with no rubbing under any conditions while still giving us an extra 1/2 inch of lift over the out going stock sized tire.

    Well done Mark. I work for Kumho in Sydney and you represented and presented our brand very favourably. A few of my Dealers that use these tyres said they don't slip at all. You mentioned something similar. Great vid. Very professional. All the best champ.

      Thanks! We just took them over 1,200 miles from Texas to Colorado. No issues! 😁

      Hey mr Kumho, do these come in wider sizes as well? I’ve been running the Road Venture MT and I love them but it’s time for new tyres and I prefer a non directional tred so that I can rotate them properly.

    That's one of the best review videos i watched on pizza cut tire. You are definitely one of the best video when someone are undecided about which pizza cut tire they need on their truck.
    Great great great video.

      We have 24,000 miles on our set. They are beginning to show the wear and they are louder to a small degree, but they are holding up well. I am still extremely impressed with these tires!!!

      same here... but there weren’t many reviews on this particular tire. So, I had to try it out! 😬

    Nice review, thank you. You will love the skinnies! On your next set of tires you should try 235/85R16 - I run this size on my JKU. There is nothing sexier than a high clearance 4x4 on 31" skinnies.

      Unfortunately, the 16s won't fit on the 4Runners - the calipers are too big. :(

    Went there for the first time 2 weeks ago in my '10 Trail. Cold and rainy but the place is a blast. Had fun on Michelin Defenders but going back this weekend with K02's in the 255/75/17 flavor. Good to see some pizza cutter content out there, especially parks I visit.
    Great vid man!

    thanks for the review. here in Australia this size is very scarce on the market. but I'm considering it because it's the stock size of Jeep Rubicon and Gladiator. And the stock is usually too small for Jeep owners so they let them go pretty cheap

      @TrailorSailYT  Před rokem +1

      We have about 20,000 miles on the MT71s, and we are still really happy with them. That being said, I am not sure I need such an aggressive tire right now. They are slowly getting louder, but their traction off road is still impeccable. As with all tires - keep them rotated on a regular basis for the long life and even wear.

  • @davidgeographicofficial4628

    I'm using Kumho MT71 too with my 2020 4runner!
    MT71 worked good at Moab and mud in east side . I posted shorts videos with MT71 in my channel.

  • @ezeNdog

    Nice man.. yeah narrow tires is what your supposed to use for off-road because it puts all the weight in one spot instead of spreading it out over wide tread, great for climbing rocks and stuff... width is for sand, and soft material

    • @TrailorSailYT
      @TrailorSailYT  Před 3 lety

      Hopefully we get down to the beach to test these on sand in the next couple months.

    Hello there nice video. I got a 5th gen with kdss, and was looking at doing 255/75/17. I'm tryin to stay stock as much possibel for now. Not sure if you could answer this but would this size do any rubbing at all with stock suspunsion or an other modifications need to be made?

  • @michaelzosa1228
    @michaelzosa1228 Před 3 lety +2

    after installing these tires what is your observation on your stock tire and new tire on mpg consumptions?

    • @TrailorSailYT
      @TrailorSailYT  Před 3 lety +1

      MPG did go down by less than 1 MPG. I think this has less to do with the weight of the tire and more about the roll resistance. That observation is over the last 10,000 miles (we drive the 4Runner way more than most people). However, we also regeared to 4.56 gears after 6,000 miles. So, any numbers now would be skewed since the regear.

  • @V8AmericanMuscleCar

    Which tires are better in the mud, these or the Cooper STT PRO? I think on clay and deep mud, not only surface mud.

    • @TrailorSailYT
      @TrailorSailYT  Před rokem +1

      You know... that's a good question. I don't have the Coopers, but I have 2 buddies that do. The only other major difference is that I am regeard (3.73 > 4.56), but we may need to see what we can do about finding that out...

    • @TrailorSailYT
      @TrailorSailYT  Před 3 lety

      We have about 16,000 miles on them so far, and they have been fantastic. They have gotten slightly louder, but they are wearing evenly and balance easily.

    Are you running stock suspension? Or do you have a lift?

    • @TrailorSailYT
      @TrailorSailYT  Před 2 lety +3

      2" front 2.5" rear Dobinson's Springs. These tires should fit on stock suspension though.

    Appreciate the vid and good seeing that brand/model tire in action.
    On a side note, I submit that a 255 is not a "lot" thinner than a 265 tire as stated in the intro. 10mm/1cm difference so only 0.393701 inch narrower overall and don't think most people could even tell the difference between a 10.0394" piece of string and a 10.4331" piece of string if standing more than 6 feet away from it. Ha. True that they will look a fair bit thinner than stock, but that is primarily due to the fact they are 1" taller and so a bit of an optical illusion since a 255 width is barely thinner than stock 265 width. It seems a more drivers are calling 255 pizza cutters, but typically the pizza cutter type names are reserved for truly thin tires (for the height) of 235mm or narrower. As stock tires and oversized tires get bigger and wider, I guess that nickname will drift and apply to wider tires, as time goes on, so I'll have to get used to 255 being considered pizza cutters. Ha.

  • @switzmoto
    @switzmoto Před 3 lety +1

    Do you get any rubbing with these tires? I was thinking about trying the 255/85/16 tires for a little extra height.

    • @TrailorSailYT
      @TrailorSailYT  Před 3 lety +2

      nope! Stock rims, no spacer, and with JBA UCAs which have a gusset that is wider than stock. No rubbing even in the most extreme conditions and situations.

    I have found that any Korean branded tire is almost superior to any American brand tire.
    Other than Michelin (French), I really haven’t bought acting but Korean

    C-rated vs E-rated.. lest we forget about D rated. Everyone wants to make a YT vid. Yet nobody knows anything about what they're reviewing. Yet, here I am.

    • @TrailorSailYT

      D-Rated tires weren't available in the size range that I wanted, and I can only give my opinion on those things that I have available to me. ; )
