  • A focal point of Genshin Impact's combat is Elemental Reactions. With so many of them in the game, I thought it would be fun to go through each individual reaction and critique how good (or bad) they are.

    As someone who principally loves the geo element, it hurts to admit that crystallize is practically unusable in most (if not all) cases. Geo mains like me are just left scrambling for crumbs for any upgrade on crystallize. I’d already be grateful if hoyo released a geo character who scales with EM and transforms the mechanic of crystallize kinda like Nilou does for bloom. Like a shockwave of sorts that deals the element it absorbed whenever the shield gets hit or expires, or whatever. At this point, I’m just craving for something that can bring geo more appreciation. 😞

    • @digivagrant
      @digivagrant Před rokem +37

      Geo should have an offense attribute like Thorn Dmg where your shield deals dmg when you roll towards a target.

    • @froeloe
      @froeloe Před rokem +22

      your idea is amazing. my idea is similar.
      *Shard Self-Explosion*
      - crystallize shards will detonate on their own after 6 seconds (like dendro cores).
      - explosion will have AoE
      - explosion is elemental dmg depending on element used to procc crystallize
      - AoE explosion will apply elemental aura on affected enemies; procc other reactions. this way, we can use Geo to spread other elements too. we don’t necessarily need to rely anymore only on Anemo for that.
      - this will synergize Geo and/or Crystallize with other elements and will open MANY new team comps.
      *If you pick up shard*
      - if you pick up a shard, the AoE elemental explosion still happens and everything that comes along with the mechanic of shard self-explosion.
      - you also gain a Crystallize shield. element of shield is based on the shard’s element and will resist attacks of that element.
      - if other nearby characters are within the AoE explosion of a picked up shard, they will also immediately gain a Crystallize shield _(but it is 15% less sturdy than a shield from a picked-up shard)._
      - note: only picked-up shards will grant shields to your character and other party members within the AoE explosion
      - shards that explode on their own after 6 seconds do not grant shields

    • @froeloe
      @froeloe Před rokem +19

      @Bartosz that totally makes sense. geo characters are great fundamentally because of their kit, playstyle, constellations, multipliers-and not necessarily because of their element.
      i think crystallize is what holds back geo. if only crystallize was designed better to viably successfully synergize with other elements, then geo as an element would improve so much. this way, geo can be free from the mono direction. don’t get me wrong, mono is fine. but if that’s the only thing an element viably has, then i’m not in favor of it. having options is ALWAYS a good thing. improving crystallize will definitely open up new doors for geo, new team comps with geo. right now, geo extremely stale. outside the itto or noelle mono teams, geo is pretty much dead. it’s just physical with yellow numbers. and with the arrival of dendro with no geo+dendro reaction, geo’s tombstone was finally done. hoyoverse really murdered the element. the characters are fine. but their element is basically dead as a lifeless rock.

    Burning got glossed over super quickly. It has some merits that are worth mentioning. I'm not gonna curse it at 2/10, personally would put it at 5/10. Not great, and it's only better than Crystallize and Shatter, but very much better than how this video makes it sound.
    Burning reapplies a pyro aura if you can keep feeding it with Dendro, meaning that someone like Nahida can singlehandedly keep a pyro aura alive from a single Pyro hit so long as you don't completely erase your pyro aura from another reaction. This makes for an excellent alternative for reverse melt comps.
    Burning also has quadratic scaling if you can smoosh the enemies together. If you can squeeze enemies together into something like Venti's black hole or Kazuha's skill, then you can both spread and swirl constant burning and pyro swirls together while each enemy's burning racks up damage on every other enemy that happens to touch the burning. Couple this with the fact that Nahida keeps reapplying dendro on every swirl and you have a constant burning aura that is impossible to get rid of. Look up the Air Fryer team if you want more info.

    I believe that bloom, hyper bloom and burgeon should be evaluated separately, because a lot of the stuff you said in the bloom section flat out doesn’t relate to hyperbloom (for instance you don’t need a healer in hyperbloom since it doesn’t do self damage unless you’re literally standing on top of an enemy, also it is just as effective (if not more) against bosses as quicken, since the reaction is single target). Both burgeon and bloom do aoe damage, unlike hyperbloom. And the problem of messing up element application mostly only applies to burgeon, so it SHOULD have a lower rating than hyperbloom, which is arguably the best reaction in the game at the moment.

    • @ciciamanda.
      @ciciamanda. Před rokem

      and to add on to that, if your elemental application gets goofy when you're doing hyperbloom the worst thing that could happen is that you get some quicken/aggrevate hits, so even if you mess up you'll still end up with a powerful reaction. So you can kinda just go ham in a hyperbloom team, without having to worry about application, because the stakes are so low.
      My most used team rn is Main dps Nahida, EM raiden, XQ and yaoyao, and it's a joy to use. I'm a former diluc main, so i have a tendency to go unga-bunga, and since all you have to do with this team is raiden e, nahida e+burst, xq e+burst, and then spam nahidas normal/charged attacks it really fits the unga-bunga playstyle lol

    For the most part I agree with the vid but u kinda went to harsh on burning. Its definitely an average tier reaction but 2/10 is putting it with shatter and crystallize is a bit unfair. It keeps Pyro on the enemy for a long time without factoring if its a 1 or 2 unit application or not and the DoT damage could get up to a couple k per tick with high EM. Because I think it's very strange that Shatter is the only reaction that Mihoyo seems to have completely forgotten about. It scales off EM but deals PHYS DMG and can only be triggered through Blunt attacks or Geo. Currently the only person who could probably utilize this best is Chongyun if he went full EM.
    There are currently no characters that explicitly utilize this reaction or supports it the same way other characters do for other reactions. I feel like Mihoyo totally could someday but who knows. I hope they do.

    Geo resonance is more useful than the Geo reaction itself. If Crystalize shields had a "pop" mechanic like bloom or even Noelle's E skill, it would immediately be useful and Geo characters would actually have a use for EM. Also I've seen some interesting shatter teams like sayu in shatter bloom that are actually viable, so I wouldn't say it's useless, just extremely niche at the moment. Burning got nerfed even further but I could def see a character in the future with a mechanic in their kit that increases the teams burning rate and damage (Natlan).

      @@Neisse Swirl although deals good damage, damage alone does not rank it as the strongest reaction. It’s highest strength is the ability to fuse other elements and to amplify said element damage. Only Succrose and Kazuha sufficiently provide both.
      The greatest thing reverse vape has over forward vape is the ability to do it consistently. I acknowledge the role of Childe and Ayato for Xiangling vape but what I tried to argue is that only those characters with high enough hydro application can make good use of reverse vape so it is still because of the characters that reverse vape is strong.
      Aggravate, although benefits all electro characters with high electro application, the existence of Fischl is what elevate it from good to insane. Because, while it is true that when factoring in only Oz and c6, Yae has more aggravate proc than Fischl; if you play Fischl together with Yae, every aggravate proc Yae trigger will trigger one for Fischl as well.
      Consistency is very important for almost everything in Genshin and is especially important for a quantifiable reaction like bloom and hyperbloom. Kuki and Raiden doesn’t just have 100% uptime, they increase the reaction consistency through a wider range than most other characters, and that they can be played off field. Lisa, Cyno and Yae don’t have such consistency thus are not ideal for Hyperbloom, they make the reaction unreliable.
      Although it is true that burning gets carried by Nahida, a lot of reactions also only earn their rankings because of the existence of a selection of characters. For once, without Xiangling, burning will be your only way to maintain the pyro aura.

The big strength from hyperbloom is that it is very very cheap to get high damage. In order for other teams to pass it you need 10x the investment. If you invest the same amount in hyperbloom you will not get much more damage. It kinda hits the damage cap it can do pretty early. good video, but one thing I have to add is that melt with benny xiangling rosaria/kaeya and then another cryo or anemo unit (shenhe, sucrose, kazuha) can actually be a pretty strong team. the best part about it is that then your Xingqiu is free to be used in a hyperbloom team or another team. so yeah, melt may not be the best/most popular reaction if you're newer to genshin and looking for two teams to clear spiral abyss melt and hyper bloom might be those teams

    I believe if some of the geo characters had direct interactions with crystalize it would make the reaction more appealing, and make people play around those mechanics.
    For example:
    -If Albedo’s skill make the active character pick up crystals instantly. (Then his C6 would make sense).
    -a character that makes shards explode .
    - a geo shielder with something similar to thoma (charging and refreshing his shield) but with crystalize.

    Part of the problem for Superconduct as well, is that it can mess with your cryo resonance (notable in the case of Eula teams), too much Electro takes off the cryo, making you lose 15% crit rate vs those targets
    Also, I do find in the specific case for Swirls with Nahida on the team, sometimes it actually is a challenge to actually Swirl on that team (Miko - Kuki - Nahida - Kazuha lineup), I'm sometimes left casting my Kazuha E and not getting anything from it, Kuki C4 should fix that - and Fischl instead of Kuki leaves me with no defensives. I usually opt to not include the swirl instead so I can just press buttons without having to actually look lol

Using her, nahida, Bennett(or an anemo unit), and an electro unit(favorite being raiden), you can very consistently overload for thick damage, and in dehya ult/field they’re never too far away to reapply pyro and blow up again with electro. Only thing is you kind of NEED nahida to make sure dendro isn’t consumed so quickly. Other dendro units can sort of do it but not nearly as consistently

    Alternate note on Burning (because I feel that the section didn't go as in depth as it should have): If enemies are close enough to each other, the burning damage starts to overlap between the enemies, this actually is insanely powerful especially with units like Venti and Kazuha, on the not so bright side if you're too close to the enemies, then you start to take the damage they are and it isn't mitigated at all so it can be risky but the profit can be worth it (Team Ex: Nahida, Bennett, Kazuha/Sucrose, Venti). Another note is that burning (specifically with Nahida as the dendro) can be used as a good source of continuous pyro application for reverse melt. Since you'll be using Nahida in this team, you'll also get a lot of EM from her too which is good team synergy (Team Ex. Ganyu, Nahida, Bennett, Kazuha/Zhongli)

    I feelt like Ganyu Burning Melt with Nahida needed to be mentioned. This made Golden Wolf Lord a joke when it was in Abyss a few weeks back. For those who dont know Nahida's E's proc will reginite itself so long as burning is present, and one of Ganyu's CAs wont remove the pyro aura before the next tick of Nahida's E goes off, meaning she can perpetually Melt so long as Nahida keeps her E going. (though if Ganyu does a quick skill at a bad time or her burst, that can remove the burning as too much cryo app.)
    Also Melt is the go to reaction whales doing speed runs in Abyss. As you Ayaka Burst followed by Hu Tao going to town. However thats not exactly standard player stuff so its fair not including it.

  • @zanzatbc
    @zanzatbc Před rokem

    Good video as usual!
    you could have gone more in depth into some of the reactions though, people already have a skewed perspective of the elemental reactions and team comps.
    In general you’re not wrong, but I think you’ve treated the topic a bit too lightly if I may say so… but I understand it must be hard to turn such a broad topic in a 15 minute video essay format. Maybe we can hope for a part 2 😁
    For example the idea of forward reactions vs reverse reactions was not explained very well, I’m not saying you should have made a 2 hour rant about elemental gaige theory but at least mentioning it wouldn’t hurt. The reason why most of the popular comps revolve around reverse reaction is because it is extremely difficult to keep consistent auras for the forward reactions to work, so while it may be better on paper to run forward reaction comps because of the multiplier, one has to understand how many units of their respective element each character applies and how long the ICD on those applications is, which is more than what most genshin players are willing to do.
    Regarding the specific reactions while I agree with most of what you said, I’d just like to say:
    - electro charged is fantastic. It was very underrated in the early days of genshin because people like big crits and flashy numbers, also theorycrafters never crunched the numbers around it because it’s a pain to do the math… but the AoE capabilities of EC are insane and is very easy to double swirl.
    - Overload is not being used by the majority of the community because most people don’t understand how it works, both theoretically and mechanically, but it’s an amazing reaction that has both great damage against bosses and offers some form of CC against smaller enemies, especially when playing ranged units like klee, yoimiya and yanfei.
    - Burning is not very good on its own but it’s an amazing way to proc melt consistently, especially with Nahida, it’s basically a double aura to prepare the setup for a second reaction, kinda like electrocharged is to overvape.
    Speaking of melt, outside of the traditional melt ganyu that everybody knows, a lot of great melt teams are quick swap comps like Xianling bennet Rosaria kaeya, that most people have no interest in playing because of the tight and strict rotations involved, but they are extremely powerful in the right hands, same for the so called “soup teams”, especially the original Sukokomon, these days we have easier soup teams to play like ayato soup, but they still don’t get the recognition they deserve.
    Freeze is god tier but hoyoverse decided to sabotage it because it was too good and after the Morgana domination era, we haven’t had a good abyss for freeze ever since.
    Finally, I think you should have spent more time on the dendro reactions, especially the different iterations of bloom; Nilou was barely mentioned, and you didn’t talk about hybrid comps like quickbloom and fridge at all, despite being some of the best comps in the current abyss and some of the most interesting teams to come out of the current 3.0 era. I’m sure the meta will eventually shift but it was a very interesting introduction to 4 elements teams where you can have a huge variety of reactions on field at the same time.
    Again I want to say I love your channel and your videos and this doesn’t want to be a slander in any way. I Just wanted to give you my honest feedback.
    Sorry for the very long comment but I feel that any other way to speak about this would sound extremely generic and incomplete. If you ever happen to read this:
    Keep up your amazing work and lots of love!

    • @zanzatbc
      @zanzatbc Před rokem

      Also, regarding geo and crystalize, while I agree crystalize could use a buff in terms of numbers, I think most genshin players have a lot of misconceptions regarding geo, especially the more casual ones.
      The lack of reactions is part of what makes the geo element so good; overall, geo units are extremely flexible and can fit any team comps, because they don’t mess up your reactions too much and they generally won’t steal procs from your on field unit if you play them correctly. Also geo resonance is extremely good and this makes double geo a staple comp to run in most reaction based teams with one or two flex slots. Before yelan and the coming of double hydro, hu Tao double geo was one of her most successful teams, and yoimiya still plays double geo with yun Jin and zhongli to this day.
      The archaic Petra is also part of what makes crystalize amazing. A 35% elemental damage bonus, along with the 15% flat damage bonus you get from the geo res, is an incredible increase to your team’s dps.
      Overall, the main purpose of geo from a game design perspective is to be used when hoyo wants to introduce a new support unit without messing up any reactions, so that it can be used in many different teams. Imagine if yun Jin was a pyro unit, she would be just a different and to a certain extent inferior version of bennet; because she lacks the healing bennet provides.
      Zhongli is one of the most used characters in the game, and the reason for it is because his shield doesn’t mess up any reaction, so he can fit in nearly any team, from vaporize to hyperbloom comps. And geo units scalings are usually high to compensate for their lack of reactions.
      I do believe at some point we’ll see a geo unit meant to buff crystalize in the same way nilou buffs bloom, but generally speaking I feel there’s a lot of slander flying around regarding geo, when geo is actually a great element for the exact reasons most people use to criticise it. It certainly deserves more love from the player base.

    Some extra complexity with Quicken
    The Quicken Aura technically only reacts with Pyro and Hydro
    Applying Electro or Dendro simply adds additional damage to that instance while the Quicken Aura is active
    That Electro or Dendro application will apply it's own Aura under the Quicken Aura
    This is how you can apply Electro to both Aggravate and Quicken at the same time
    Though since the Quicken Aura is a flashing Dendro Aura, you can't really tell when you have a Quicken and Dendro Aura together
    Applying Hydro on Quicken and Dendro Aura will react with Quicken for Bloom but leave the Dendro Aura

    Although more then likely it's gonna have to come in some way of killing enemies.faster or I hope once they get near the end of 7 kingdoms they ramp up the difficulty at least in some areas or zones that require you to approach battles in ways other then brute forcing it or devastating enemies with crazy elemental reaction mash ups although u would prolly have to expand either the physical damage mechanics(maybe adding button delay combos a parry/block system or just increase/limit switch times between characters and make elemental skills and burst recharge from physical damage instead of time or other outside things) or the movements In battles mechanics like making a more controlled dash that can change direction instantly in any direction and give it a invincibility frame or make it a dodge or add more aerial interactions being able to do more then just glide down and give us free movement and a air slash dash and spin move lol

    Crystalise can actually help a lot in very specific situations. I've heard that a lot of new players have trouble beating oceanid but I could beat it easily when I was like AR35. Main reason, I was using Ningguang. Crystalise shields are pretty bad generally but against their own element, they have 250% dmg absorption. Combined with all the EM my artifacts had (of course you get EM when you roll artifacts for geo characters lol), crystalise actually produces a pretty decent shield that you can replenish every 2.5 seconds (strong enough to take any single attack from oceanid's summons). So I was able to farm oceanid at the time with no healer, no shielder, without dodging but still take barely any dmg.

Perhaps make it a transformative reaction like bloom; For example, inflict burning, then use cryo to inflict frostbite (basically a stronger version of burning, but with blue, cold fire), or apply electro to inflict implosion (I was thinking of a more controlled overload, but that's still just overload the more that I think about it. While it wouldn't save crystalize I think one way to improve it would be an artifact set with the following bonuses.
    2pc 80 EM
    4pc increases the wearer's geo damage based on 0.07% of the wearer's EM. When a crystalize reaction is triggered by the wearer the crystal produced moves to the active character. This effect can occur every 2.5 seconds.
    A set like that would potentially see use on characters like Albedo, Gorou, or any future geo sub-dps or off field geo appliers. Converting EM to geo damage bonus would shore up the dps loss of building EM to some degree while building EM and the 4pc bonus of drawing the crystals to the player would make the shields actually useful.
    Still this would do nothing to change the fact that better shields are available from characters already. It would however give players more options for double geo comps outside of Zhongli (example; Yoimiya, Albedo, Yun Jin, Xingqui). As it stands the biggest redeeming factor of geo as an element is it's resonance and having more ways to effectively maintain it would be a nice addition to the game.

    I agree that freeze ganyu is probably more accessible than melt ganyu, but as someone who has been using melt ganyu since 1.6 abyss, it is just as strong (maybe stronger) as freeze and has not failed to get me 36 stars. I use her burst too, the pyro application from xiangling and guoba together atually outpaces the cryo application from ganyus burst and charged shots. She has enough dmg to brute force the big desert boss in this current abyss (the big world boss one you farm inside a pyramid). Average dmg is around 60-70k on arrow impact, 120-140k arrow bloom dmg (more dmg if modifiers are good that day). The whole team is ganyu, zhongli, xiangling, tank-fei (sometimes bennett if the other team isn't using him/doesnt need him). Other team I've been using to clear alongside melt ganyu is standard vape diluc (diluc, sucrose, xingqiu, bennett). If you have nothing better to do or just want something different, try melt ganyu. It's fun, big numbers, and enemy's disappear.

    Xinyan is a better physical dps than you think, and razor is better at burgeoning and hyperblooming rapidly than physical. And the only real way to make use of crystallize is to use Gorou's burst with full em and 4pc archaic petra. That creates a 3000 HP ish shield every second while also buffing the element you crystallized with as long as you just catch the flying shards every so often.

    Imo it can be ranked differently depending on the status of the player, a whale may favor multiplicative reactions like vape and spread while transformative reactions like hyperbloom will carry f2p players..

    Bloom overall is for sure 10/10

    There are two bits of information I feel should have been mentioned in your video regarding this subject.
    1.) Freeze is used in a number of bloom teams given cryo can overlap with dendro and doesn’t ruin bloom procs. It can easily serve as useful enemy damage mitigation when your bloom cores hurt a lot and the cryo resonance can make it count as it’s own bloom reaction in every way sin name. (No crit doesn’t affect bloom, but freeze will keep enemies grouped which does make it count as it’s own reaction damage when it comes to AoE damage.)
    2. I know shatter is laughable but it should be noted as geo’s only offensive reaction and should be given just as much of a footnote as burning. It is possible we could see the geo element expand more in that direction in future.
    3.) I have a third point though it’s something to keep in mind rather than add to the video. Overload has damage potential with dendro as dendro will maintain a pyro aura through burning or an electro aura through quicken. This means adding dendro to an overload team won’t reduce the number of overload procs while giving you extra dendro reaction damage. That said, Over-Burn as it stands doesn’t hold up that well compared to Over-Vape, but could still have some future potential. (For example, a future artifact set that gives a party EM buff whenever burning is proc’d.)

      Kaveh - the new dendro claymore character - is designed to buff base bloom. His best team is likely to he either in Nilou or fridge (cyro + dendro + hydro)
      Burning is better than shatter because burning maintain elemental aura while shatter destroys it.

    Its like Sukokomon but with Dendro and not Anemo, also this also only works with Razor because he deals both physical and electro in his burst, his physical can become Pyro infused with Bennett. Also Razor's burst can cancel the burning reaction lol.

      and as it is if a pyro character were to come out and be a physical dps, they would probably be dead on arrival if they had no effect like this (or some absurd numbers)

    Awesome video! Uhmm this might be a dumb question, but does damage caused by reaction create energy particles? If so, of which element do they belong? Also does the ammount of energy they recover depend on the type of reaction, or is it linked to the ammount of damage? Of course if those particles exist that is... haha

    • @joe_simon
      @joe_simon Před rokem +1

      No they don't create particles. Only your elemental skill, Favonius weapons and if some enemies take enough damage will create particles EXCEPT if you play electro resonance. In this case you can generate particles with electro reaction. But this is on a cooldown.

      @@joe_simon Thanks for the reply! Can I also ask how exactly does ER work? I mean is it just faster regeneration of the ult of the character having the ER, or does it also make particles generated by that character return more energy to whoever catches them? For example, if my xingqui has more ER, using his E and immediatly switching to my Ayaka, will Ayaka get more energy from those particles, if Xingqui upgrades his ER? Also is the energy return from the particles bound by the damage dealt, or is it just a constant value? Sorry if my questions are silly, but the ingame information was a bit insufficiant for me to get those answers 😅😅😅😅

    • @joe_simon
      @joe_simon Před rokem +1

      @@zyfryth Er increase the amount of energy you get from particles.
      There are same type!, different type and clear type. And you can catch them on or off field.
      On field: Same type gives 3 energy per particle, different type 1 and clear 2.
      Off field it's 1.8 for same, 0.6 for different and 1.2 clear type.
      And this is with 100 ER. with 200 ER you get the double amount of energy. So 6, 4 and 2 on field and 3.6, 2.4 and 1.6 off field.

  • @anyanP
    @anyanP Před rokem +3

    Yeah, no, vape doesn’t need one big nuke. Bigger part of damage in national team, and most of it reaction damage, comes from sustained reverse vape. Hu Tao’s damage comes mostly from her CA - also a sustained dps - and her Q actually can be a dps loss, unless its done right as her E duration expires.
    And there are good reverse melt teams, with quickswap Bennett-Xiangling-Kaeya-Rosaria being one of the better 4* teams, especially ‘cause it frees Xingqiu to be on the second side of the abyss to form another strong 4* team(taser before 3.0, hyperbloom/burgeon after 3.0). Melt Rosaria and melt Ganyu are also fairly popular. It’s just that best cryo unit - Ayaka - doesn’t really work with melt, so reaction gets less attention.
    Also, yeah, no, electrocharged IS BROKEN. It was always okay, but with dendro it is broken. Double auras are extremely valuable and EC allowing you to react with both elements is so, so good.
    As for burning, at a baseline it’s bad, but Nahida existing makes it significantly better. The way her E works allows to consolidate AoE, and her 1.5U dendro allows for it to enable rev melt fairly well.
