Terrific! Your series of essential lessons for the flute are spot-on and are well demonstrated. Best I have seen on line.

This is a helpful video. I won't have my flute until a couple weeks from now, but I'm trying to "soak up" as much as I can. I play many other instruments (including reed instruments), and have particularly put my focus on brass the past couple years, playing from cornet to tuba and nearly everything in between. One thing I noticed about the brass instruments is that I just think of a note I want to play, and my embouchure seems to respond automatically. Therefore, the comment you made about the lips responding to play low notes vs high notes essentially by thinking of the note made sense to me, and I hope I have a similar experience with the flute (which interests me because it is different from all my other instruments. If I can learn to play all the notes on my Selmer Aristocrat flute (up to the C three octaves about middle C), then with the three octaves from middle C down to the "false tone" low C I can play on my Conn 20J tuba, I will have a working range of six octaves!

1:00 very important advice for me!
float the high note and bring out the low note
4:26 stay loose, throat, lips, etc.
5:18 flare nostrils to open up sinuses, use yawning
6:11 put a rest between notes (analyze)
6:57 practice very slowly (make the tones even)
7:30 prepare transition before the leap
7:57 experiment with aperture, jaw position, air angle on low note
    10:28 change rhythm

Thanks for making this video! I always struggle with giant leaps between notes, and I'm hoping that these exercises will help. I tend to overshoot my air.~ >.

Hi! I'm not sure if this is a common thing or if I need it fixed but when I go to an octave jump my A and G notes sound ghosted even if I sustain it for a while. Even if a go from low to high. If you know what this could be please let me know. Thanks!
