  • There have been some last minute rumors regarding the iPad Pro and they have really shaken up what my expectations for this product is with one week left to go it looks like Apple is getting ready to ship is the most premium hardware product they have ever made with an M4 iPad Pro with supercharged Ai features, the best OLED display ever made, haptic feedback for Apple Pencil, and a brand new keyboard case that will take the hardware of this iPad Pro one step above the MacBook Pro.

Why don’t you mention the megawatts of power that servers use compared to the watts of power an Apple silicone device uses. For context, a mac uses 35 watts of power from the brick, a top of the line mac uses a maximum threshold of 95 watts, a Apple Vision Pro has a 35 watt consumption rate which is an attribute to a R1 chip of the iPad and an M2 chip of the Mac and we see the iPad use 18 watts from the brick. These Ai servers take up the same electricity used for a whole city, and we will see the utmost integration of Ai with Apple Intelligence at WWDC at the heart of the Apple ecosystem, rather than an ecosystem of the whole world, and their worldly views. One for personal narrative for Google and Facebook who steal unnecessary data.

How will an on device AI work exactly? Does it mean you'll need to install a full 100g or more of data for the LLM to work properly? Which might make the 1T+ size drive more interesting?

    • @TheFeedRocket
      @TheFeedRocket Před 18 dny

The new optimized LLM's are very small, very efficient, some as good or in certain test better than GPT4, and almost as fast. They work without any connection to the internet, I was so impressed to point of thinking it must be alien, I unplugged the internet and this thing kept answering questions and writing songs about anything I threw at it. Compression is crazy, Stable Diffusion was able to take 100gb of photos and it is compressed into 1GB! Insane what the vector databases do with data, and that is images, text compression is even more mind boggling, I see no reason not to have an AI trained on every book available on your iPhone. Apple had a model a year ago, 8b that would fit on 40gb, today they they might be using multiple tiny models, not just one model, and I think (don't know) they are fully in the next neural engine of the M4. I'm excited about using multiple models each with it's own specialty like UI aware AI they are now talking about. The training is what makes this possible, that is done in billion dollar soon to be trillion dollar data centers and Chicago like power usage..LOL.
Things are changing faster than they can build new devices or software, those reading this in a few years will laugh as they run models many times smaller/smarter at realtime speed 100% on device, even generating photos and videos. Remember when the iPhone first came out? each year we always wanted it, the camera got so much better, the screen got better, it got thinner and larger. Last few years it's like ehh not that big of a deal, that's what AI will be like over the next few years, advancements each year will be so dramatic in AI you will want the next iPhone.
For on device we don't need it to do everything good, we need it to do just a few things great, the rest can be server based through OpenAI, Anthropic or Google.

Sorry, but I've about had it with Apple. They had like 10 years to "invent" MacBooks with touch screens, as basically every other manufacturer on the planet offers. Give me a holler when they come out with an iPad that runs macOS or 360° MacBooks with a touch screen. Until then, they can keep their iPads. For Apple to really shift the iPad in the right direction, they need to finally come with an UnifiedOS… for instance, you will have your brand new M4 iPad Pro, and when you use it, you will have the same kind of UI you’re having today with iPadOS, touchscreen friendly, easy to use… but as soon as you grab a pointer device such new pencil, or a mouse or trackpad (keyboard dock), then you will have the option to change the whole UI to look similar to what MacOS is looking today. But it won’t run two OS, it will run just one MacOS that will have a second UI for “iPad Mode”… a M3/M4 Chipset is strong enough to run MacOS, so there’s no reason why we can’t have MacOS on the iPad M3/M4… So as soon as we grab a precise pointer device such a pencil or a mouse, then we can have an adjusted UI that would look like MacOS… since the whole menu and apps between iPadOS and MacOS are really close anyway… just go for it and have it fully. Which means, you could easily turn your iPad Pro into a MacBook just by adding a keyboard dock and/or a new Pencil… Now you will have Finder, Terminal, DevKit on your iPad Pro, you can go further, use MacOS full Apps… That would unlock the iPad potential and turn it into a real full laptop computer… by running now full MacOS Apps, then you will drive the new for more powerful hardware such M5, M6, M7, etc… because if you stick to “tablet” usage, then a M2 is already too powerful for the limited apps and you won’t need for more new hardware. The key is not hardware then, it’s all about software with an UnifiedOS. Mark my words, that’s what we need… however, I’m not sure if Apple will be smart and fast enough to make it happen… that’s another story.

With Apple it's all about the fact that they mediocrely differentiate their lineups, so I think a good way to differentiate their Pro and Air iPads, should be changing the iPad OS name to something like “iPad OS Studio” or “iPad OS Pro” for their iPad Pros and add real and useful Mac OS features, or even allow them to run full Mac OS natively, so in that way it wouldn’t be confusing that “iPad OS” is different on each category, and they will surely make a lot of people happy

Not sure i agree with you. The ipad won’t be ahead again of the macbook because the macs will transition too to the m4. The m4 is the ai focused platform, the ipad will just make the jump first on a hardware side because i also don’t think they will announce any new ios feature before wwdc! So basically all new hardware will more or less make the ai jump on the same time

Honestly I’m not sure most every day people care about the AI features that much. Maybe I’m wrong. But the only thing I would upgrade for at this point is for some new Mac-like features. I’m not asking for Mac OS. But just something that sets it more apart from an iPhone and more like a MacBook. Like a really lite version of Mac OS or at least more Mac- like customizations and app capability.

Each M series chip runs the previous iPhone chip neural processing unit. That’s why they have to go with the M4 because it’s using the previous generations neural processing unit.
Apple is going to announce on device AI in June and how embarrassing would it be if on device runs faster on the iPhone to release in September than it does on the M3 chips which are technically a generation ahead but worse NPU

Their coverage had stuff like 'CONFIRMED' and what not, (because the meaning of words don't matter?) Whereas Greg is just reporting hey this is a rumour and here's why it might make sense.
I really hope he's getting by well with these videos, because I can't think of another CZcamsr who is less infuriating to watch aside from maybe Snazzy Labs.

The problem with the iPad it is is now a niche product and out priced for many. For it to become a hit it needs to be accessible to everyone. Those on 2018 iPads have adapted a workflow to get the best out of it. Testament to Apple for making robust hardware, but just because something is new and shiny doesn't make it a must buy. Everyone looks at the screen an nobody cares about how thin it is or the bezels or if it has 6 new cores, they care if it works or not, not how it works. The iPad is a content consumption device.
I don't know a single person who has hit the hardware limitations on their current iPad with their work that they must buy the next one because it is faster!
As said in many comments before, if it can run MacOS, I would buy one. But I already have a Mac Mini M2 and MacBook, so why do I need it? - I don't, yet.
For the iPad to sell, it needs to be affordable with a great screen and a reasonable price. Not massive tech, great screen super high price. Look at the first iPad, a game changer, and it sold millions because Apple gave it a REALLY affordable price.
Also, look at the success of the Mac Mini for example, affordable, decent spec, accessible and adaptable to many use cases. Flying off the shelves. I bought one and that was the first Apple computer I purchased.

The issues with iPad Pro versus Mac Pro for me is price. Mac Pros are outrageously expensive as are iPad pros but Mac Pros are double to triple the price of a highest specced iPad Pro and you can build a PC yourself that would blow the Mac Pro out of the water for a third of the price and then there is the software costs. Ok so you can’t use all the professional software on an iPad but there are a lot of software options for professionals to work on iPad, Affinity photo and Procreate for artists, Cubasis and 1,000’s of music production apps at a fraction of the cost of desktop software, I seriously doubt that even 50% of people who splurge for a $6,000 dollar AUD maxed out Mac Book Pro actually use it to its full potential and that goes for iPad pros too, I haven’t hit the limits of my M1 iPad Pro yet, but then again I haven’t tried to make a music production with 20 or more tracks yet, it would be nice to have simultaneous access to all the processor cores but apparently this is a software issue and not a hardware one so the question really should be be has Apple given up on iPad OS rather than have they given up on the iPad.

The prices of the New IPads will probably keep sales low because of inflation and households not having the extra cash to spend now days … now if they can drop prices of other iPads from Air down that would boost sales to offset of Ipad pros … $150 to $175 would be a good place for price drops.

They could use an M100 instead of an M4, but if they still use iPhone software on iPads, it's just a test of the customers' intelligence! Having the price and weight (with the pencil and Magic Keyboard) as well as the performance of a MacBook Pro laptop, while using iPhone software (incorrectly called "iPad OS"), is merely a test of intelligence for customers who don't think for themselves. Apple has a historic opportunity to save the iPad (Pro) by allowing MAC OS (or some version of it) on the iPad, and if they don't do it now, it will be a big disappointment and the downfall of the iPad!

It could have a rocket engine and cost $10,000 and it would make no difference without MacOS upgrade, except it's just an expensive piece of hardware.
Apple makes its profits from selling hardware but it's software has been lagging in current years so the total value for the higher price is no longer a good deal right now.

1st: MG seems a little bit off with his predictions lately - maybe his guy at Apple is not as reliable as back in the day? 😉 Then: it makes not much sense to bring the iPad with M4 without a new “AI” iPadOS and that typically arrives well after WWDC in September / October… to lower my exceptations (and be the more positively surprised) I would say there will be new iPad (Air)s with some new colors, a new Pencil (I’m more than fine with the current ones🧐), brighter (micro LED?) display (the same as in the iPad Pro-s), and maybe an iPad Pro with the M3 chip. The big updates coming later when a new “AI” OS is ready too 🤓
