the moment you realise your laptop doesent have thunderbolt 3 :(
Just get an adapter man
gets external GPU, reviews fortnite and pubg...cuz you know people will get ext GPU to play rocket league đđ
Karlo MarinÄiÄ i could try lie to myself because I'm a champion rank playing at 30-40fps on my notebook laptop. But honestly I'd still rather get/build a desktop.
get extra 10 fps...
ima play minecraft with it minecraft is a too big of a game for my laptop to run my world in and i will use my dads old gpu i think it is a 1660 or lower
I think this is the first external graphics enclosure I really, really like. Not only do you get triple card support, meaning that pretty much anything will work at this point, you also get full power delivery to your system. And the price being $300 is much more reasonable. That's about as much as an Akitio Node cost me when I factored in an additional power brick for my laptop. This is a lot higher quality than that too, of course.
For those that donât understand why people donât just buy a Desktop;
I am a Web Developer, sometimes I work in a coffee shop, sometimes I work at home. On rare occasions, I meet up with clients at their business, and I use my Mac to show off things.
I canât bring my desktop everywhere. I would love to have a eGPU Enclosure to throw my 1070TI in (which is in my desktop), so I can have that better performance for various tasks like Video Processing on the go.
I've fallen and Austin didn't catch me on the next one.
But seriously, why'd video abruptly end like that?
Why fortnite in every video? Run something more demanding? I get it that Battle Royal games are the trend but honestly I don't appreciate all this overhyped shizzle.
All you play is
1) Fortnite
2) PubG
3) Rocket league

Chef: Just put it somewhere, idc.
Engineer: Got ya
Hey, Austin, could you do a test to see how the Mac performs running Boot Camp with the external GPU? Just to see if Windows on a Mac with a external GPU performs as well as a standard windows machine
I just bought one of these and am planning on putting 2070 super inside to use with my razer blade stealth. The nice part about using an RTX card is that it has a usb -c port on the back so I could buy the cheaper one and still be able to have an extra port :D Now I'll have a portable gaming rig I can bring to the cottage and hook up VR with for some awesome drinking nights. Man I'm excited! Oh yeah Austin you can get 6 foot 40gbs thunderbolt 3 cables, there are a few companies on amazon that make them and you can also get one from razer as well. Only downside is they are stupid expensive, like 80-90 canadian pesos for one. So like 60 bucks american.
Please stop reviewing fortnite and rocket league. They seem to be very common in your videos and they're both not demanding, Fortnite specifically was made to be able to run on a wide range of devices. Buying an external gpu enclosure and a high end graphics card is way too expensive and plain silly to test out on games like those. Throwing in more graphically intensive games would be much more helpful in observing the limits of these setups (yes I know it depends on the graphics card itself as well as the thunderbolt limits). I have a reasonably capable gaming pc so personally it's not for me but I don't see how someone could spend that much money on this just to play Fortnite, surely they'd wanna try games like Witcher 3, Shadow of war and the like if they're spending around ÂŁ800-1000 for an eGPU (300) and high end graphics card (500-700) but still want a laptop as their main driver. You should do brief mentions of FPS in those kind of games. As it stands, this video gives very little info for very expensive things (to the average consumer).
I guess because Fortnite is one of the biggest and fastest growing games in the world right now, casually and competitively. People everywhere are searching for "best laptop/pc setup for fortnite" and seeing what they can get. Those searches lead them to videos with titles and subjects like this one. That equates to more views. A couple years ago the same thing was happening with League of legends and its kind of where the whole "But can it run Crysis" meme came from. You would be surprised how many people almost solely play MOBAS and FPS arena type games and don't play anything else really. It's annoying and I see where you're coming from but its just business and what can generate the most views RIGHT NOW that is making creators do these kind of videos.
The average consumer wants to play fortnite right now.
William Stebbing that average costumer should already have a pc that can run fortnite, it's simply not demanding.
Preach it brother! No seriously, he always reviews these casual games and would be cool to review more hardcore demanding games. If you spend that cash you should play something a little better than a kid's game. Also those games can easily run on something like an MX150 or GTX 1050 no problem.
More like GTX 750, it's a medium light game a 250 dollar PC could run the damn thing
Any FCPX performance increases?

I love how austin jumps a bit when he says Hey Guys this is austin
I have a quick question (that will probably never get an answer to) ... How do these things work with workstation grade Quadro cards? I haven't seen a single video or article displaying the compatibility. Apple uses a lot of render comparisons and certainly associates the compatibility with gaming... But what about content creation, Cinema 4D, Premiere, After Effects rendering, etc???
I don't see anything online highlighting the performance of these enclosures with those mediums.
oh look austin learnt a new word "is about as simple as it gets"
its about as simple as it gets
Could you connect this to a USB C? I have a Pavilion all in one and I want to get a external gpu
Only if your laptop supports Thunderbolt 3. USB-C alone won't work.
Hey Austin, Iâm curious about that set up on the Mac. Boot camp windows 10 with the Vega would be interesting.
Awesome Video Austin .
Just save your money and buy a better laptop.
Joe1up or build a desktop
I see your point but some people might prefer thin and lights
Lothaire Cliquennois you do know that when you are using an external gpu it's charging your battery
or a pc
Deaco it probably has a shit cpu, but we dont know !
Can this le my laptop run minsweeper at 480p 10 fps ?
Xtreme Gamerz no, if you want 10 FPS you should turn down to 0.5p
No buy a xp computer than it will run at 16K with 995fps
half a pixel isn't possible
wave æłą yeah, you can do a forth but not half
No
Congrats on 3 Million Austin
It would be cool to get only the Thunderbolt 3 PCB from one of those GPU boxes for like 50$ and then use any power supply, case... Since you arent gonna carry it anywhere you could just 3D print a mount for that PCB and GPU and keep the PSU anywhere. Keep it all connected to a monitor, keyboard, mouse.. and just connect the Thunderbolt cable when youre home :)
how to talk like Austin say the last word slower am i right or not

for macbook pro with touchbar users, this runs really well with the Vega 56 or vega 64 graphics card. on Mac OS and windows.
I like Austins channel because he doesnât stretch his videos
The core x might supercharge your laptop but will also burn your pocket
I know time zones exist but is no one talk about how he uploaded at 2am
Because he can sleep whatever hours he likes? Because he starts it uploading while he goes to bed? Because you can wait a day to see a video? IDK man.....
Michael Garry i was joking...
i got this enclosure the other day with the rtx 2060 and battlefront runs almost flawlessly on ultra graphics, its worth every penny
But is there a way to combine the Core X with the laptop internals?
Recording in-game video degrades your performance so the result might be incorrect

Is there any benefit in connecting this to a gaming laptop? Something that already has a good CPU and integrated GPU?
going off of my own experiences with this particular eGPU, I'd say that eGPUs the way that they are currently are for a specific person based on how you'd answer this question.
a.) are you constantly on the go and do you always take your laptop with you?
b.) are you a PC gamer ?
d.) do you like to take your video games on the road with you?
c.) do you need a professional graphics card for CAD, Rendering, Video Editing, etc without having to own thousands of dollars in other computers and equipment to do it?
If you answered yes to two out of the 4 questions then it might make sense to consider getting a Thunderbolt 3 eGPU (which is what most of the eGPU market is comprised of at this time) With Thunderbolt 4 on the horizon, it will become a much more exciting prospect to getting an eGPU since the bandwidth will be considerably faster.
However, if you didn't answer yes to 2 of the questions above, I'd say its a hard pass. eGPUs are meant to preserve the laptop experience without compromising heavy duty graphics processing for professional applications and games. Its philosophy is use your laptop as is but when you need more horsepower, dock it and to preserve it by taking all of the graphics load and heat out of the laptop and onto the eGPU. Think of it like souping up a muscle car.
This thing should be 200 at best...
Gaming laptop under $900,would appreciate it.

Any plans of the new HP Envy series? The 13" clampshell and yoga models both look interesting, espeicially when the base price of the yoga model is lower.
That's nice for work applications like Photoshop, Premiere, AutoCAD, Kdenlive etc... If you wanna work on your laptop and need extra horsepower when you come home, this is a nice solution.
isn't it technically just a case that holds a graphics card, and converts PCI to thunderbolt?
That's what I was thinking.
Guess there's better reasons for it.

okay since we on that topic , is it better to use another display output than the laptop display itself because it might congested the traffic flow of thunderbolt lane and lose some of it performance ?
Can you go over your own editing / Gaming Setup please?

I think the biggest problem of the eGPU is not the 4x PCIE or the price of the enclosure but the limitation of the low-voltage mobile CPU like intel's U series. Even with more cores added to the CPU itself, the power and thermal are still limited. Playing Fortnite and other games with light CPU usage is fine for this setup, but playing more CPU-intensive games like Witcher 3 and Watchdog 2 would not be so ideal. Intel's HQ series are better suited for these kind of games, but usually laptops with HQ grade CPU are usually equipped with better graphics in the first place.
it might not be 'ideal' but honestly if you get a workstation style laptop like a dell xps, precision, or thinkpad carbon you could load it up with a 4 or 6 physical core CPU and forego the onboard dedicated gpu to use an eGPU instead. Sure you probably won't get insane framerates but it shouldn't be slow or clunky either...

I know thereâs a rare chance that Iâll probably get a reply to this question but do the graphics drastically improve when you add a monitor or would they still be good on a Dell laptop like the XPS with the external GPU?
Yes
Hey Austin
Did you plug in the mouse to the laptop itself or something else?
Can you try how Universe Sandbox works as a test ( it's a high graphics simulation).
Hey Austin Iâve been watching your videos for years now and I was wondering what would be the best laptop for photography, light gaming, and watching movies on I need help in finding one and would like the screen size to be 15 in at least or if not at least a screen that has really good resolution bank you for all your amazing videos they are entertaining and your amazing if you do see this thank you for your time
Is it a must for using extra monitor? Cant run smooth with original 13" display?
The only gaming I do on my Mac is retro games (OpenEMU). I run Steam, etc on my RÎZÎR. The lack of ports on the Core X kinda sucks, but it is partly marketed towards Mac and Apple is all about cutting cords. I use a wireless keyboard and mouse for mine. The 100W PD is sweet, it'll charge up a 15-inch MBP which needs 87W. Unfortunately it wont be able to charge the new RÎZÎR Blade 15. The 1060 models ship with a 200-watt adapter and the GTX 1070 model relies on a 230-watt adapter. I wonder if they'll update the Core V2?
Must be using better cameras, noticed a slight bump in video quality lately
I have an immediate tech question. Don't think I'm stupid for asking this... So I just built a new gaming pc but the old one I've been using is so caked up in dust, duster doesn't work and I don't have an air compressor. As far as the CPU, GPU and PSU that all have fans, could I spray the entire system down with a water hose then let it dry for a month before using it? I'm pretty sure the PSU can hold a charge so I don't want to mess it up but it's caked up in dust the most from the last place I lived with smokers. I'm sure giving it a month before turning it on afterwards would have it completely dry but how long should I leave it unplugged before all the power is drained and I can start and can I do this without shorting it out? Asking all the smart tech guys..
Seeing the size of it you're better of with a small form factor desktop pc.
Austin, please do a review on the HP Pavillion Power 15, it's a laptop I want to get and it seems pretty good but I'm not sure if I should go through with it.
i just bought one do i need to buy a graphics card for it too??? or is one installed already to start?
This video is as simple as it gets
Hold on, I'm not much of a tech guy, and I have a Thunderbolt 3 slot thingy on my computer, so do I just have to plug it in and then it will work? or do I need to buy graphics cards for the Core X myself?
if anyone is still looking into egpus be careful with compatibility between different manufactures
Plz i really need this
If i buy a razer blade 13 and core x will it work and is it worth it?
Like how much better will the performance be?
Plz respond to me austin i do really need u
Just curious why you used the XPS, does it have only a x2 thunderbolt 3 port?
So these things basically turn your regular desktop or laptop, into a gaming pc?
Why do you need a thunderbolt 3? Such an obscure format. Can you use an adapter and plug into USB-C?
