And it's kind of amazing... not only does it have the same high build quality of the Core V2, but it also has a much lower price tag, bigger power supply, and larger space to fit extra large GPUs. The Razer Core X is extremely promising, but how does it perform in actual games? I've done a ton of testing, and I'm here to explain who I think should buy it and who shouldn't.

Do I need a thunderbolt port in order to make the egpu work? I got an HP pavilion so... i'll really need that.
You missed a 4th demographic, and arguable the most important one, adult professionals who happen to be gamers. Work notebooks often have strong CPUs/RAM/SSDs and mediocre to non-existent GPUs, favoring battery life over useless gaming performance. Working pros take those notebooks home, plug them into their gaming docking station sporting 1080tis and multiple external monitors with GSync support. No one is using a 1080ti on a 1080p notebook screen, lmao.
You also didn't consider the fact notebooks get hot very quickly while gaming. Any shift of resource use to external sources means longer use for your gaming notebook, regardless of the power of your eGPU.
yea that makes total sense. so for someone like me whos just looking for a gaming laptop i should just fork out the extra cash to get something with the internal nvidia graphics
That's correct, and also the 5th demography is made with those that want to turn a gaming laptop into a workstation laptop by using the Quadro or the Radeon Pro. I couldn't run a 2 parts FEA simulation with my gaming GPU.
Totally agreed as I belong to that demographics myself. I use an ultrabook because portability and battery life are key to me. An eGPU allows me not to comprimise on that and still be able to game at evenings at home.
Man you literally described my life. I bought an HP 2018 Spectre and only ended up on this video because I just made the Razer/1080 TI plunge. 😆

Reasons why I’m considering one: my gaming PC is due for an overall but don’t game as much I used to. 1440P/1080P are my preferred resolutions. I have a laptop as a daily and that’s due to be upgraded soon. It would be cheaper for me to get a new laptop and eGPU and give my dated but mint ultrabook to the missus. My biggest concern is actually the CPU. My want is a 13 inch ultrabook, XPS13/Stealth/Envy etc. I mostly play older games with fewer newer games. Game wishlist and the catalyst for this is Diablo 4, RD2 for PC, Anno 1800, Dragon Age Origins with high graphical settings. CPU is my concern and based on recent playtime I’m in no rush.

So i have an Aorus x7 v7 with an i7 7820HK/gtx 1070 /1440p 120hz laptop that i love. The 1440 screen is the sweet spot for the 1070 and its great because i travel alot for work and i work offshore, but when im home i would like to be able to game in 4k on my 4k TV, so ive been thinking about getting one of these and putting an RTX 2080super in there. Do you think I will be able to play triple A titles in 4k with decent framerates

Is the switching problem solved for your razor blade pro? I’m having the same issue. I couldn’t figure it out, it repeatedly off when I switch to 1060. I need to reinstall drivers all the time.

The laptop does not have the thunderbolt 3 port. And, do I need to install the Razer software on the laptop first so the eGPU can recognize it?
Thanks for the video, it's very useful. According to your video, the Dell XPS 15 has only 2 PCIe lanes but how about Dell XPS 13 7390? Because I have that and powercolor red devil 5700 XT in core X, but my warzone performance is very bad, best at 20-55 regardless of what settings.
@Mahdi Takach no GPU included. If you have a dedicated GPU, don't buy the core X, even CS:GO I can only manage to get 150 max and when I see a lot of people shooting, I get 50fps. I still haven't figured out where the bottleneck is.
Will the new RTX 4070TI 12 GB fit in this? I have a laptop with overkill Ram and Processor... but there is a old GTX 1060 in it and is too slow for video editing. This will be a cheap solution to still edit video's on my laptop.

SO I got the MSI gs7 stealth, with that 1070 GTX mq card in it.

TO me, the core x is just a a wasteful spent money for the stealth.
BUT. Now that there are 3070/3080 or even 3090 cards. That´s a different story.
My purpose for even thinking about eGPU is the quest for 4k 42" monitor, up from my current acer predator Z35 monitor that only runs 2560x1080.
I need a bigger monitor for my job and work, as well as occasional gaming.
Do you have any intel or info to share that may shed light on the path I am about to walk? :)

Can you do a review about Razer Core X, or other eGPU with Quadro P4000 with external monitor in pro applications SW, SW Visualize (CUDA rendering), Octane Render and may be other CAD apps using CUDA, or pro GPU via ThunderBolt 3 with 2 lane, 4 lane and in PC comparison? Are there any sense?
It will be very helpfull not only for me. I'd like to use a thin an light ultrabook for CAD. (in my case Acer Switch 7 SW713-51GNP-83ZF - Black Edition) Take it with myself and at home use it like a "workstation".

I finally got the Core X to work with a HP Omen laptop. However, certain Steam VR games do not get sent to the display on my Oculus Rift S. I get the error message "Wrong Video Card". It says "Please plug your headset into the same graphics card as your primary monitor."
I want to use the eGPU on my main monitor (the monitor of my laptop), so that when the headset is connected to the eGPU, it will be connected to "the same graphics card as your primary monitor." But how do I make the laptop monitor use the eGPU instead of its built-in GPU?

I have the MSI GS75 Stealth 8SF, with RTX 2070 Max-Q
It preforms great in most games, but it is a complete dog when it comes to Oculus Rift. I could barely get 20 FPS in Beat Saber at lowest graphics settings, and even the home room was choppy.
On the other hand my old desktop with a GTX 980ti handles every oculus game I've thrown at it (I have freezing issues with old desktop, which is why I went to a new PC)
I was wondering if there is a benefit with these eGPUs for VR.

currently using one with my 2013 Mac Pro- though I think there's issues with thunderbolt bandwidth, especially when using a Thunderbolt Audio Interface.

Basically, just more performance with the 1080 TI. If you want max power in the core, get a 1080 TI, but it will cost more. It might be a good idea to get a cheaper card now, and ugprade to a 1180 nvidia card when the new series comes out here in a few months.

FYI if you have a 15 inch macbook pro you won't have issues with PCI lanes over thunderbolt you get the max number of lanes.
The production value would take an excellent step up with a lapel mic or rode hotshoe mic. Less peaky volume

@@alial-hussain5692 Yes. The cabinet is just another plug-and-play device that Windows will recognize. You must have at least a Thunderbolt 3 port. The card can only be the 2 fan style.

@@alial-hussain5692 I might suggest buying a newer model though. This one is like 7 years old. It's shocking that it still works with a modern graphics card. Chances are that you'll get bottlenecked for any future cards.
